Sprint is giving me a rediculous deal on service (twice as much service for half the price) AND they just gave me the newest $600 WM6 pocketPC for free so I'm gonna be going with them for right now.

Price and new product aren't much of a concern to me. Apple has too much hype and focus tied into theis product for it to be too buggy.

But:

1. Need an unlocked version -- I don't want to be tied to AT&T's network while abroad, where I have a SIM for my UK phone on Orange pay-as-you-go.

2. Modem Use -- I need to be able to use my cell phone to access data networks on my MacBook Pro.

My guess is the unlocked versions will find their way to market pretty quickly; but the modem issue will need to be addressed by both the development of modem scripts as well as modification of the Bluetooth connectivity options.

I was so excited and was going to get the iPhone even though it was AT&T. I got to looking at AT&T's website and looked at the coverage map.

AT&T does not own the network in a 40 mile radius of my home, the map says it's a partner coverage area. I called them and the partner is SunCom, and they could not give a definite answer about the data plans working right with no additional charges.

Country living is great, that is unless you want an iPhone. I actually asked my wife if she would entertain moving. (Not really seriously) You know I led in with we could get cable instead of satellite, we would be closer to Wal-Mart, ect... She freaked when I mentioned that we should move to get iPhones. :p

1. We all know cost will go down and space will go up in a short time. Look at the first gen ipod - $399 and $499 for 5 and 10 gigs - now its $249 and $349 for 30 and 80 gigs.

2. I don't want to beta test. We all know :apple:'s history with 1st gen.

3. I'm not convinced I even want the Ipod portion. Teh Steve's reasoning for the price included an ipod - which I already have. I just want the phone interface with the new web and email and voicemail. This will probably come out eventually - iPhone nano?

4. My girlfriend won't let me.

My big reason to hold off is simply because
1. I don't have $600 lying around, plus the monthly cost
2. My current cell phone is paid for (I'm on a big family plan with Verizon)
3. I want 3G!!

I plan on saving up about $2,500 to spend on a second or third generation iPhone and it's accompanying 2 year contract. The way I see it, if I save up the money ahead of time for the phone and the contract, it won't be anywhere near the financial burden it would be if a purchased it how.

Besides, I want 3G. Enough said.

Probably the best reason I won't get one is because service is not even available where I live.lol AT&T is a joke. They seem to have forgotten about the middle of the country.

The good news is in 5 years when other carriers can pick it up it should be a lot better and cheaper.

1) Hoping Verizon picks this up.
2) Pricey monthly service.
3) Hoping 6G iPod will basically be a (white) iPhone without the cell phone features. I could go for the WiFi Safari web browsing and the PDA-like features. Getting rid of two of my gadgets (iPod and Palm TX) is good enough for me.

• 1 year left on Sprint contract
• Waiting for 3G/skeptical of EDGE
• Waiting for larger capacity (32 GB would be plenty for me)
• Waiting for iTunes Store app (wireless music/video purchases + podcast DLs)
• Waiting for games (via iTunes Store)
• Waiting for GPS (not a must, but would be cool)
• Waiting for iChat app
• MMS would be nice
• Removable/replaceable battery (will probably never happen)
• Hoping for price drop by this time next year, but I would pay $600 for a 32 GB iPhone with 3G and stuff listed above

The Big One:
• Don't need it, just want it A LOT

costs too much (anything more than $0 on the phone itself sucks)
don't really use a cell phone too much (i'm fine with the one i have now, not really a person that is on the phone often, would prefer im'ing my friends to phone calls)
currently with t-mobile, but having signal issues at my house (at&t had a better signal though)
issues with at&t
contract is a big problem, 2 years...ehh...
it's a mini computer, not a phone. i want a phone to make calls, not this other stuff.

in short, it's kinda lame, for me at least. and with skype, i can make my macbook a phone.

and ps, gps is overrated. i use the "furcalchick"postioning unit, known as "f"ps. i prefer paper maps anyway, better for me at least.

1. The keyboard is not fast enough for people who are on it all day(Business users, texting fanatics)
2.No MMS, big mistake Apple.
3.Cost

I'm from the UK, but even if they were on sales

a)I am still in a contract of which I have 7 months left.
b)If there are still bugs in this thing, or teething problems I will want them to sort these out.

same here.
1250 minutes, unlimited text, unlimited internet (soon to be rev a) , nights weekend 7pm.
42$.

I love Apple, but these revolutions I just don't have the money to keep up with. I mean, people are complaining about the US economy going into a recession and gas prices and then they spend $30 in gas to go spend $600 on an iPhone and goodness knows how much MORE per month on a phone plan to use it (I'm not talking about the people who've saved to get an iPhone, but the people who've just decided they want to be the first person on the block to own the newest thing).

If you've got the money to spend and keep up with your other responsibilities (rent, car notes, tuition for school - in my case -, food, light bills), though, more power to you.

1. Expensive!

2. It's AT&T/Cingular/whatever the hell they call themselves now. I stayed with them for 5 years prior to this and from what I've seen with friends who still have them, their service (both phone and customer) is STILL the crappiest. Why have a revolutionary device with crappy service? It's not worth the hassle. If I'm going to get a phone for THAT much mone, they'd better have pretty awesome service.

3. I have devices that do all of the things the iPhone does already (internet=Mac laptop, photos=digital camera, phone=Motorola PEBL, music=iPod, movies=DVD player/laptop/video game console), so it's not practical to buy them all over again.

4. Following #3, I'd rather not have those features in one device. What happens if your camera starts screwing up? or if the internet consistently fails? does it affect the other functions of the iPhone?

5. Media circus hooplah = driving prices higher and higher for a longer period of time

6. Waiting on 6G iPod. What's the status on THAT?!
