"...The screens in the latest models also require complex new manufacturing techniques,..."

aka fragile, aka problematic, aka issue prone.
that just means it’s complex compared to before. The new panels are state of the art OLEDs even Samsung doesn’t use them because dual stack OLEDs are expensive and hard to produce in large quantities because only LG and Samsung can make them.

Something I wanted to mention rq: I was thinking about getting 11" this time but I decided to get 13" again. I realized that it was the ESR's rebound folio case that was adding onto the weight that made it so heavy and not-so-yankable. I'll most likely purchase Apple one again this time.

I feel like it will be toward the end of the year. If you think about it there have been no leaks on the New iPads except the schematics (questionable) or the keyboard or pencil. I think some of these Apple Guru's are talking out the side of their heads.

Tim seems more concerned about stock prices thus slowing down new product releases. Who knows maybe I’m talking out the side of my head 😆

Suppliers have already ramped up parts production, so it will be soon.

From Instant Digital...

Apple translated the part of the sentence as "extension", but the weibo's default translation translated it as "postponed".

Followed by a comment, Instant Digital says (replace extension with postponed, then it makes sense) next week's launch has been postponed. So, Apple's plan was to actually launch the new iPads next week.

That may well be, but I don't see it as an excuse. It just makes no sense to me. The iPad Pro is already at a point where it is overpriced and overpowered for a lot of people, considering its software limitations. Then Apple, instead of just adding "regular" OLED (like they did with the iPhone and like their competitors do), decides to go down this route of some special dual stack OLED, and the real reason is clear - it will be an excuse to jack up the price again.

They're adding something expensive that no one asked for and will market it as a geat new feature, while they simply could have given the iPads OLED screens that don't come with a price bump and then later work to take the extra step of making the OLED screen even better. This way they're just skipping a step and going straight for something that no one else uses, which would be fine if not for the price bump.

The argument that it will last much longer than normal OLED displays is bizarre to me because there are no problems with the durability of OLED screens on iPhones and Samsung tablets, so I feel like this is solving an issue that doesn't exist, at least not yet. The delay is the least of it. I'm not complaining about something that is new and good, I'm criticizing the decision to introduce something expensive to a product that already costs more than it should. FFS, people are actually giving up on these new Pros and instead buying MacBooks, and some are even saving money along the way. It's insane.

Macrumors article about the reason for the delay is poor OLED display yields.
Which is why I think anybody that is still holding out hope on a next week announcement is going to be disappointed. Really seems like last minute issues with the oled are killing the amount available. They could probably release now but then shipping would slip into May instantly.

But I think majority of us don’t really care about the releasing angle of it… the issue is why not announce it already.

Vision Pro was announced last year in June and preorders happened January, while it shipped in February. Not sure what’s the mystery behind the delay in announcing it. And I understand the Vision Pro is a whole new platform… so, that calls for a different rollout.

But we been getting a steady course of articles regarding the upcoming OLED iPad Pro since late last year. They could announce it and push back the date if it’s not quite ready.

I agree. Put us out of our misery by at least telling us what we can expect to commit our money to.

I think the main difference in your example is the Vision Pro was a new category altogether for Apple. Due to the price and the niche market I think Apple wanted to hype vision pro as long as possible prior to release.

Does anybody remember if the original iPad had a long time between announcement and release?

One thing that’s been bugging me right now, we have iPhone part leaks but no part leaks in the oled iPad at all outside of the schematic and detail leaks.

Edit: I read your reply too quick, you did point out it was a new category. My bad.

Some folks already consider the iPad Pro a niche product due to the price already. I can only imagine how much criticism it will receive when it increases in price due to the OLED.

Announced in January but released in March.

No worries... I get ahead of myself to sometimes. ;)

I don’t want to wait anymore but I can’t justify the 11” with LCD knowing Oled is on the way. I’ll wait I need to strengthen my patients. 🧘‍♀️

I am done with the Pros now. I use them as mass consumption devices, and paying $1500-$2000 for an overpowered tablet is not cost-effective. The bigger iPads I had rarely left the docks. I am about the Mini life now.

I find the above pricing still tolerable considering I use them a lot but I wouldn't go any higher.

Also, I'm upgrading far less often. I used to upgrade every year. Now, I'm still very happy with the M1 iPads.

Considering the excess in processing power, I reckon I can just buy deeply discounted previous gen next time I upgrade. The savings tends to be quite significant particularly for 1+TB cellular.

I hear you about the Mini, though. My iPad usage is currently 60% Mini, 30% 12.9 and 10% 11.
