Space grey 11" wifi 256, due May 21-27!

Now I've got to figure out case/sleeve/cover issues. I'm not worried about dropping it much, since 90% of usage is when I'm in bed or on the couch. Mostly worried about screen scratches when transporting in a bag (don't want a glass screen protector tho) and also need to be able to set it up on a table when eating breakfast or cooking. Would prefer it naked, but need some other protection/functionality some of the time.

Which version ipad would you choose (11 or 12.9) if you travel?
The most practical one would be the 11". It's perfect for travel. You can do everything you can on the 12.9. When I went from 12.9 to 11" I didn't notice much difference in the size to be honest.

Cool for you!
But for me, as easy as it was to carry the 11" iPad Pro, I found the 11" frustratingly small to work with. Everything felt too cramped.

But this is the paradox shared by the iPad, iPhone and MacBook Pro sizes - you either:
Love carrying it, but don't love using it (6.1" iPhone, 11" iPad Pro, 13" MacBook),
or
Love using it, but don't love carrying it (6.7" iPhone Pro, 12.9" iPad Pro, 16" MacBook Pro)

Luckily are those who find comfort in between these two extremes.

Or...Apple can just admit defeat and make an iPad Mini Pro :)

I just think it would be hard to carry a 12.9 iPad Pro and a laptop! To replace a laptop on a trip yeah! Nice.

I would like to personally see the 12.9 miniLED in all its XDR glory if it’s going to be the shape of things to come…

I’m still using my iPad Air 2 but I can’t see the screen in the sun would the mini LED be better for outdoors in the sun or will the 11” screen be just as bright also which one has better battery? Also which is better not showing scratches silver or space gray
for scratches silver is much better. If you scratch the space grey one you have silver scratches. If you scratch the silver then you have more silver underneath.

That is a very huge upgrade indeed! :)
Hope so, lol this is going to be my third iPad that i owned as i had the iPad2, iPad Air and now the new 2021 iPad Pro.

Never really needed to upgrade until now to be honest as the iPad air feels Terribile now and i feel like punching it, ALOT and tells me its time for a upgrade. :)

Wanted the 11 inch but been seduced by the screen of the 12.9. I hope it is not too unwieldy or will be sending it back…

12.9 256 GB Wifi/5G - barely use over 70gb on my 2018 12.9, figured I can use the remaining GBs to do some video editing - plus with thunderbolt, can use my 1TB OWC Envoy Pro FX for storage. More interested if you can finally get a separate display out at full 4k/6k 16:9 now instead of the dreaded mirror 4:3.

It will be an individual decision and everyone is different.

But I have a suspicion that Apple are going to get an unusually high return rate for the 12.9.

It sounds like you are far from being alone and many people who would otherwise have gotten the 11 are getting the larger one just because they want the better screen technology. I understand them (I was tempted myself) but I think it is unavoidable that a good number of them come to the conclusion that it is too large and heavy for them.

Got the 12.9” 256 GB with wifi. Was contemplating cellular but I tried tethering to the iPhone and they seem to have improved it quite a bit in the last years. The new phone provided 70-80 Mbit while tethering and as it is just a button press on the iPad these days I will make due the few times I need it.

I opted for 12.9/128GB wifi model. I'm kind of wondering whether I should have opted for the cellular version or more storage. I didn't want to be loose with my money, and since my current iPad is 64GB with storage left over, 128 made sense and the last time I had a cellular iPad I never really used that feature.

So I think I'm all set, and excited to see what this bad boy can do ;)

Personally cellular has never been a 'must get' for me when it comes to iPads. My iPad and MacBook rarely leave the house and when they do, I bring them for a specific reason. All the work I would need them to do is offline. On the rare instance I need to be online, I'm normally some place that has Wi-Fi (like a hotel). Usually public Wi-Fi is terrible though, so I'll just hotspot my phone since it's included in my Verizon plan. I can count on one hand the number of times I *needed* to be on the internet with either my Mac or iPad when away from Wi-Fi.

Personally, if I had the money to burn I would get the extra storage. But even I didn't get anything more than the 256, which is all I ever needed in my last 10.5 Pro.

You always get pennies on the dollar for storage and cellular upgrades when you resell or trade-in. If you just give away the iPads instead of resell/trade-in, then you also lose more money on more expensive models.

I think base config always gives you the best bang for the back. Alas, I need my storage and cellular. ?

I usually buy for my needs and not for resale value. My M1 mini, I opted for 1TB/16GB because I plan to keep it for probably around a decade. It replaced my 2009 Mac Pro as a storage hub and iPhone syncing station and replaced my 2012 Mac mini for home automation server duties. It's also been a decent little machine for video editing. As it sits, the SSD is about 1/3 full and the RAM has come in handy having Safari, Pixelmator, FCPX, Slack and Messages running concurrently. My iPad will not have the same workload, as such I don't see it being needed. If something changes, like when ARMv9 comes to Apple's chips, if I find I'm able to edit completely on the iPad without needing a laptop, then maybe I'll sell both my MacBook and iPad and get a model with additional storage.

As it is, the horsepower and power efficiency of the M1 has already allowed me to pare-down my 'daily' machines from 5 to 4, I can only hope that a future iPad Pro will allow me to further reduce that from 4 to 3.

had the same one for the 2018 iPP for 3y. Very minimalist.
