The more I think about it, the more I am thinking 11". I think it's got the best price for the performance, and the size is just right for sticking in a bag. I will just have deal without the awesome screen. I am super excited about the camera changes since that was one of the most annoying things about the 2018 Pro. The question is, do I get the 512 memory or pay $400 more for the extra ram and memory to future proof.

I'm debating base 128 vs. 1 TB for the 16GB RAM. Since we have to wait till WWDC to see what software changes will be happening, I'm thinking grab the base 128 and then exchange for the 1 TB if I see something at WWDC that suggests I'd need 16 GB.

To go from 128 to 1 TB is slightly over $1000 (CAD) for me, which is like another brand new 11" iPad Pro by itself. Sucks that you can't option 16GB by itself, because a Thunderbolt port means I can have fast external storage.

I'm also thinking anything they show will run reasonably well on 8 GB RAM too. That will be the majority of sales, so it's not likely they'd introduce Final Cut, Logic and Xcode and they wouldn't work well on 8 GB machines. And my M1 MBA with only 8 GB works surprisingly well with only that amount.

I think the M1 being in the pro means that with software the Pro’s are going to separate further from the Air line going forward

Can’t wait, let’s see that software! They also previously claimed M1 would be a Mac chip so we might still get dual boot or something like that...?

Here's where I'm up to;

12.9 Wifi only (over the years I've hardly ever used cellular) and 128GB (My current usage as I write this is 90GB (on my iPhone) and is less on my 256GB 11" iPad Pro). So this would seem the logical choice for me. I'm not saying it'll stay like this, I always want to "future proof" a little but the 128 Wifi only does seem the best option.

Go big or go home.. huh?

Well, why won’t it stay like that? What’s the reservation? I know I plan on going with 128gb 12.9 inch cellular model… however, my issue is availability.
And as much I don’t wanna pay for a 1TB storage model…. If it’s the only model available during launch, I’ll definitely take it. Because shortages will be a problem during the launch period and I plan to hunt for the model that’s available. But I’ll have to draw the line on the 2 TB storage model lol.
And my thought process is…. I’ll pay for the 128gb, 256gb or 1 TB model. But the 512gb model seems like it’s an odd place. It’s the last model tier to have 8gb of RAM, I find it’s better off spending the extra 400 bucks for double the storage and RAM.

Ordered a MK for my 11" 2018 pro to see if i like it before i decide to jump to a new 12.9 256gb wifi , as i gave my M1 air to my daughter for Uni.
If not will just keep my 2018 pro, have a 27' iMac anyway.

Update; £100 to double the storage from 128GB to 256GB = worth it.
Cellular adds £150... more complicated. I currently have the 11" WiFi and Cellular. Great. If I get the 12.9 WiFi only, I can use my 11" when travelling (hardly ever, but...) and leave the 12.9 at home.

But...what if, after a while I find that I'm not using my 11", as the 12.9 is so much better? So, I decide to sell the 11".

Now, I am left with my new 12.9 WiFi only....Would I now regret not having the cellular?...

The main consideration here it seem to me is the use of Cellular. I've never really used it, but, like my alarm system in my house, I haven't either....

Sorry for "working out" my considerations here but your advice helps.

Over the years I keep switching between the 11" iPad Pro and the 12.9 and each time I always miss the one I don't have! I currently have the 11" 2020 iPad Pro but now, with the new one's due to be announced I'm thinking of the 12.9. I can't really say I've noticed a great difference between the two when using but the 11 is obviously easier to hold and is more portable. That said, the 12.9 is a lovely size when not moving around. Just wondering what others are intending to do this year? Anyone else keep moving between the two sizes? Any thoughts?
Wrong question which one you buying. I'd say when or will we get MacOS on iPad. I'm waiting for decrypted firmware and bootloader exploit. This is what we need.

Personally, I'm getting cellular. Can't add it after the purchase and amortized over at least 12 months of ownership, it's just ~$16 per month or $4 per week.

I used the 2017 iPad Pro 12.9 512GB LTE for 4 years because I was content with the overall package. If it didn't have enough storage or lacked cellular, I expect I would've been frustrated with it multiple times and replaced it sooner.

12.9 1TB Cellular Silver for me. Upgrading from 10.5 512GB Cellular.

With the “new world” I expect my iPad to leave my house less than it used to. And when it will, it’s not like the 12.9 will need a wheelbarrow to transport, it’s only an inch or so bigger in width and height lol.

Only difference? RAM? Center stage camera? 5G? Thunderbolt? M1 chip?

This year is a huge upgrade IMO.
Re-read the comment I was replying to. It was about going 11 vs 12.9. And yes the only difference is the screen (11 vs 12.9, traditional LED/LCD vs micro LED/LCD).
