Is $300 really worth it for the 12.9 over 11”? I was leaning toward the 12.9 because I want my next IPP along with Magic keyboard to be my full time laptop and pass along my MacBook Pro to a family member. But the $300 difference between the two really have me thinking. I would love to have the mini-LED screen of 12.9, but just how much of difference it’ll make when using exclusively for movie streaming. If I to go with 11”, will it be too small as someone’s laptop replacement? Good thing is I have 1.5 weeks to decide.
Honestly I’m starting to wonder that myself. The only difference is the screen. It’s really making me wonder.

What size do you prefer? Personally, if I had needed 11", Mini-LED wouldn't sway me at all to 12.9".

With that said, the iPad can't be a laptop replacement for my use (unless Apple announces Rosetta during WWDC).

P.S. I'm buying the 12.9 but that was something I had already decided a year ago (2017 12.9 replacement).

There’s no doubt in my mind that it’s worth it. The screen real estate is the selling point for me, not entirely sure how much of a difference XDR display will make. But the brightness is supposedly a major upgrade from previous generations.

I have decide to order the new iPad Pro too! I already have the 2018 model but no Wi-Fi 6. The 2021 iPad Pro has Wi-Fi 6, M1, 8GB RAM. I going go for the entry model this time around however, $799.00. I guess I have to order tomorrow? Was saving $$$ for iPad Mini upgrade but nothing!

As @Act3 mention.. can’t order until the 4.30. But Apple has vaguely left out when it will be available. I normally don’t preorder iPads, but I know that 12.9 cellular iPads are going to be back ordered for month. However, sometimes… stock be available in other retail stores while those who preorder have to wait for their iPad to arrive. It’s going to be an interesting experience.

None, no oled or micro led means no buy this year, I’ll be keeping my 3rd gen for another year or two, mini led is a gimmick.

The iPad Pro won’t get OLED, otherwise they would have made it OLED right now, miniLED is here to stay until microLED is more affordable... unfortunately that will be about 4-5 years away yet.

According to the presentation the new iPads will be available in the second half of May.
Yeah I expect shipping to start around about 21/05, so people get them in their hand before WWDC... where hopefully iPadOS will utilise the hardware

For those interested, Amazon has the Smart Folios and Smart Keyboard Folios on open box sale. Certain ones are marked an additional 20% off. I just ordered the Smart Folio for the 12.9” for $48 vs the original (and abhorrent) $99.

Sold my iPad 12.9 2018 for a M1 MacBook Pro, with the intention of buying an 11inch Pro.

After the presentation I figured I’d get the 128GB iPad Pro 11 cellular with the magic keyboard case, but I still have the magic keyboard case for the 12.9, so it’d be less expensive to get this years 12.9 and use my existing magic keyboard....now I don’t know what to do lol

I wanted the 11 inch as I feel like the 12.9 is just too big to be portable, it is a shame mini LED is only available in the larger size!

Either way coming from a 2016 9.7 pro I'm sure the new 11 inch will be a nice improvement :)

Using the same iPad Pro 9.7". Hopefully by the time I actually can get my hands on the new Pros, WWDC will have happened and I'll know whether to scale down to an iPad Air (if iPadOS 15 is a disappointment) or go crazy with the 12.9" with 1TB (if iPadOS 15 is off the hook).

Base 11' for me. Realy wanted the new screen but the 12'9 feels to awkward for me. Saves me some $ as well ;)

Not seeing anything worth swapping my 2018 11” for, was replaced a few months with AC anyway so is new,
unless anyone can convince me otherwise, I like the 11” as can use one handed easy.
Def getting a ATV though lol.

I think I've answered differently in different threads . The M1 withThunderbolt and 16GBs has (happily) messed me up.
Would going from the 2016 9.7 to the 2021 12.9 1TB be based purely on the ipadOS 15 being a massive upgrade? or do you have some other use case that would benefit from such a big spec improvement?

Also is the size increase a factor or is this just to have the mini LED?

I'm the same! never owned the 12.9 but looking at it in stores I can imagine struggling with its size. I need something I can whip out and sketch on etc I don't want to rely on having to use a surface to rest on.

Consolidation. By the end of 2016, along with my iPad Pro, for work, school, and personal use, I had accumulated a Windows desktop, a Surface 3, a Linux desktop used as a server, a MacBook Pro 16”, a MacBook and a Nexus 7.

School over, work requirements changed, and the two desktops, Nexus, and MBP have been retired. The iPad became my main device, with the MacBook doing duty as a Mac Mini, anchored to a monitor because I couldn’t adapt to that d*nm butterfly keyboard. The Surface was there to run the occasional Windows app if necessary.

Everything is now long overdue for upgrading and hoping a new 12.9” iPad Pro, supercharged by iPadOS 15, can finally be a true replacement.

Yeah, but there's no specific date... that's what I meant by vaguely. They give us a pre-ordered date, but not when it's actually available in stores.
