Have some case updates here. Most are of a bumper case I just received, one of the few available. It’s pretty good, but there’s one big problem you can see in the photos: it prevents the attachment of the MagSafe wallet I bought. (I also have the Apple leather wallet, and while narrower it’s still too wide for the plastic bumpers.) It’s a shame since the bumper is minimal, protective and allows direct contact with the phone.

There’s also a photo of the damage the Apple leather case took after it hit the ground in a bee-related incident. It’s a nice case but too thick for my tastes, so I planned on returning it. Guess I’ll be keeping it instead!

Later this afternoon I should be getting the 600D Pitaka MagSafe case delivered. Really looking forward to trying it out, I’ll post some more pics and my impressions.

Which wallet is that?

Did I read that correctly? The Apple Leather case is too thick for your tastes?
I always felt the Apple leather (and other similar) was one of the thinner cases available that still provides some reasonable minor drop/scuff protection. 🤷‍♂️

Yes, I like very minimal cases, like the Caudabe Veil. I just want scratch and scuff protection.

Looks like the apple case protected. Can’t tell from photo for sure but the leather does look thin. ?
It’s thin for a leather case, but not as this as I prefer. And that’s not a criticism of the product, just a reality of using that material. It did do its job! Phone is just fine. The screen protector did crack on the bottom, as the lip of the case wasn’t enough to protect it, but that’s okay. (It was actually an extra 13 Pro case that I threw in for the time being.)

Just received the Pitaka MagEZ Case 3 and hoo-boy is it good. Wasn’t excited to spend 60 USD on a case, but it’s exactly what I was looking for. Looks especially nice with Space Black phones, as the dark frame has some exposure (while still being pretty well protected). Magnetic force seems as strong/a bit stronger than just the phone or with the Apple leather case, which is pretty remarkable considering how thin it is. Fits so well that I don’t need the shim stickers. My only complaint, and it’s very minor: There is a slight manufacturing variance on the bottom right corner, which doesn’t quite roll over the top edge of the phone like the others do. (I don’t think a normal person would notice.) Great product!

Nice looking but too much open space on the frame for me.

That’s the exact same bumper I’m using, except I have a back glass protector on mine.

looks like the case isnt coming up the sides much higher than the phone? looks great but doesn't feel like a drop protection phone 😅

It just curves up over the glass on the corners, pretty much flush with the frame in other areas. Again, like other ultra-thin/minimal cases, drop protection isn’t really part of the value prop. Should protect against minor drops, but I wouldn’t want to bounce it off the sidewalk.

Just found the best silicone case for me. Made by some random company called CordKing. It has nice feel and grip, with buttons that all press nicely. It comes with 2 screen protectors, 2 camera lens protectors, and even 2 fun stickers. See here: https://amzn.to/3dJoPAh

I’m very satisfied especially since it comes in the color I really wanted - white!

Edit: only downside is this is not MagSafe compatible. I don’t really use it so doesn’t bother me too much.
How does this compare to the Apple silicone? Does it have any branding anywhere? How is the rigidity?

Same as past phones Spigen Ultra Hybrid Clear... $14 from Amazon (its twice as much from their web site) ;).

Has protected phones from numerous drops of mine and still cheap enough to replace when grip area discolors from sweaty hands I go thru 2 a phone.

I've had these cases before but it always annoyed me that they were fingerprint magnets. How are the new one's? Have they improved re leaving marks on the case?

Ah, that’s a good question. It’s been a while since I’ve had a Pitaka case so I can’t compare to recent years, but this one will definitely show fingerprints. (Wouldn’t say it’s as bad as the Midnight MBA, though.) I wiped the phone and case down with an oleophobic auto detailing spray, and while that seemed to help it’s too early to say anything conclusively. I always set the phone down on the case and give it a quick cleaning every day so the prints don’t add up to bother me, but it should probably be a consideration for some folks.
