Prying that protector off it flew arcoss the room and landed sticky side down on a dirty floor and now has crap stuck in the adhesive :(
Hahaha (laughing with you, not at you) I did the same frickin’ thing. It landed on a carpet, the adhesive is now covered with dog hair. 🤣🤣🤣

Almost identical in every aspect except grip, as it’s less grippy than the Apple silicone
Good to know. I may be sold on the Synthesis…!

Form factor is very important to me. I prefer cases that are ~1mm and thinner. And also light and not too squared off. For example, I currently have the dbrand ghost case which is 1.2mm (and very light) and the Pitaka MagEZ 4 which is .85mm. If I needed max drop protection, I’d probably get the MagEZ Pro 4 even though it is thicker (1.65mm) than my preference. I’ve also had previous versions of the Apple Silicone case. Decent form factor there.

My Pixel friend has a Peak Design case that has… peaked… my interest. It feels really nice. Not sure I’d get anything else in their ecosystem though. Maybe the bike mount.

At the same time the PR Gen 5 for my 14PM will be available on Tuesday according to them. I’ve been waiting for that case. Has anyone had both of those??

Not to mention my Ghost case is coming, but I might send that back.

They made the Gen 5 for last years pro max? That would be a first for them, right?

…Still waiting on Gen 5 replacement parts… getting ridiculous. Either drop them or don’t. All talk no action with EAP

the peak design case is very nice and slim. the only problem with it, is it might lift your screen protector if you have one. i believe it worked for me with an amfilm glass protector. the gen 5 is a lot more grippy and to me feels better to hold. but isn’t as slim and clean looking as the peak design case.

i know i need help. ig recognizing it is half the battle. anyway, i had a $50 coupon for Vaja that was burning a hole in my pocket so i ordered another grip case and wallet wrap in blue this time. i really like the color. it’s kinda like a dusty blue with saddle tan inside.

The Synthesis seems stiffer torsionally, so perhaps it has a slight advantage in certain drops. Neither fall into the “protective” category in my opinion.
EverythingApplePro did a drop test last year with a bunch of cases from 50 feet (or something absurd like that). Synthesis was one of the cases I remember and the phone survived with almost no damage. Pretty impressive. I've always shied away from the Synthesis and preferred the Sheath because the Synthesis seemed too protective for my needs. But, the more I use the Synthesis, the more I like it.

I’m enjoying the PR Gen5, and I appreciate all the little details, but man it has way too many nooks and crannies to capture every crumb, piece of lint, and speck of dust. Combined with the back, which is a major fingerprint magnet, this thing quickly starts looking rough between wipe downs. I need a case for this case. 😂

Yeah, those kinds of cases qualify as "over designed" in my book. Too much going on.

Yeah, I’ve watched his annual 50-foot-drop-test roundups for many years. In his most recent test, the iPhone 14 in the Synthesis survived the drop but did delaminate and the frame bent, which is still impressive considering such an extreme impact. In general, the results seem highly dependent upon how the phone lands, with face down “belly flops” almost guaranteeing major damage, regardless of the overall level of protection provided by the case.

The synthesis wasn’t included in his drop test. I just rewatched it to be sure I wasn’t wrong lol.

Ah that’s what’s killer for me - I’d like slim and grippy. I usually put a higher priority on grip so if the Gen 5 excels there I’d value that over the slimness of the Peak.

It’s at 7:25 in this video:

I did my homework and was still wrong 🤦‍♂️ lol. My bad… I skimmed it and must have went right over it.

On a side note: I love how he gives all the credit to “the Rebel glass” I’m pretty sure 90% at least of any other brand glass screen protector is doing the same job.

Hey, no sweat. 😊

Agreed. Rebel glass screen protectors seem fine, but nothing special from what I can tell. 🙄

Anyone running any of the Torras cases? They look to be good quality for the price.

I like the Peak Design case as it’s made of nylon canvas material but also has a rubberised polycarbonate bumper. I also like the loop feature on the back. I am concerned it might lift my screen protector. Plus judging by the information on their website they haven’t yet started selling the action button version yet but are offering solutions including a free case with the button. I would rather wait until the action button version is available. I might get it once this is available.
