As has recently been mentioned here, i personally just ran across the Silk Kung Fu Grip cases on Amazon. I have been a fan of the Cadaube Sheath cases, but did not like the “older” version produced for my work-issued iPhone 8. Came across the Silk and purchased it for the 8. Gotta say, i really like it. Recently upgraded personal phone from X to XS and am waiting on my Sheath, so bought the Silk from Amazon (Prime) to get me by.

Will say, I don’t find either Silk case flimsy or that they pull from the phone easily. Granted, the XS case is only hours old.

The Silk cases are thicker that the Sheaths and have much more lip, even with a glass screen protector on.

I have followed a similar path. I bought the Silk as a placeholder so it was in my hands when I got my XS. It’s a good case but definitely looser fitting than the Sheath. As you suggest, the lip is deeper than the Sheath. That’s really my only complaint about the Sheath. I’d prefer an extra 0.3mm lip on the front. I’m hoping the synthesis will give me that.

Besides the shallow lip I feel the Sheath offers fairly comparable drop protection in the corners and edges. I’m hoping for a direct face blow my 0.33mm tempered glass will protect my screen.

Also wanted to add, I have noticed the sleep/wake button on the Silk case for XS is a little hard to push. Almost like it’s not aligned properly.

After going back to the Sheath from the Presidio Grip the phone feels nearly naked. Which is a good thing ( so much less bulky) and a bad thing (how much protection do I really have with Sheath?)

Lol. I have a strong preference for slim cases. For my 6+, I have different types of cases but always went back to my slim cases. Most of the time if I decide to try my larger cases, I'll swap it back within a hour. I did try those super thin cases (almost skin type) before and didn't feel comfortable using it.

I'm doing a pretty good job this time around of resisting buying new cases as I know I'll swap back to the Sheath very quickly. I'm a few days in with the Sheath and still love the slimness.

The Silk case I had for my iPhone 8 seemed like it was an iPhone 7 case which they labled for 7 & 8 (I know enough other iPhone 8 cases sold were in the same situation). One of the buttons activated too easily and the other 2 buttons felt off. I noticed other Amazon reviews mentioned the same thing. Wonder if it's similar to your situation with the XS case which may be just X cases relabeled.

Has anyone heard of cases from a company called ‘Peel’?

An add for them came up whilst scrolling through Instagram.

Buy one get one free if anyone is interested.

The buttons are wide open so they are not for me. This thinnest thing I'm willing to use is the Sheath.

Yep. Totally doing this with the Amazon bucks I have... since I never returned my Vader case. I’ve tried so many cases at this point. The Nomad looked promising, but barely having a sceeen lip is a deal breaker. Is the grip on the regular Symmetry that much better?

Now why did you have to go and post these pictures again? Looks so good that I had to pull my Vader out of the bag and try it on again.

Did I read on here that someone heard from Caudabe about the synthesis? I’m interested in that one too.

I’m really struggling to find the perfect case at the moment.

Tech21 is now out of the race, Nomad cases look promising, but costly with shipping to the UK.

The Presidio Pro ticks all the right boxes, but reviews of it getting oily/greasy put me off.

Magpul are reportedly making a case, but it’s anyone’s guess as to when it gets released.

I’ve tried emailing Otterbox regarding my dismay at the amount of scratches on my case with normal use. If they offer me the chance to send my Statement series back for a replacement, then I might try the Symmetry series in black.

I just got the sheath in w/ the updated cutouts... I see what all the hype is about!

Awesome! My updated one arrives tomorrow according to tracking. Hope they resolved the rough transition between the back and bottom that I have on my original (solved by a file but I’d prefer to not have to do that to the new one)

How do you compare it against the other cases you own?

A quick rundown of the cases I own that aren’t junk (XS Max):

UAG Monarch - cool looking case just kinda fat
Otterbox symmetry (midget Vader) - love this except that it’s a wee bit slippery
Apple silicone case x3 - got these for $20 each with my discount but I kinda regret it now
Caudabe sheath - digging it so far
Speck Presidio Pro - love this case!!
Ringke Fusion - my favorite and only clear case!
Ringke Onyx - ok overall
RS SolidSuit - love the buttons and look but don’t love the feel and side thickness

Cases I’ve returned that I didn’t like:
- R2D2 Otterbox symmetry (design scratched very easily)
- tech 21 evo check (case felt fat and slippery and showed a bunch of fingerprints, and the cutouts were trash)
- solidsuit in brushed steel (the backside felt like a holographic bookmark if you’ve ever felt on of those)
- Evutec Aer Karbon (Burton’s felt like mashed potatoes LOL)

For the sheath, it definitely feels the most grippy and slim. I like that the cutouts are perfect and the whole case feels like it’s a one piece design. I’m not sure about the drop protection though and how well it’ll protect my phone in a drop (no AppleCare).

My daily as of rn is the speck presidio pro in black and the caudabe will probably be my weekend case.

Definitely done with cases for awhile, my wallets hurting!!

Edit: I have 2 carbon fiber popsockets I got for BF for $5 that I really dig! It’s on my Speck presidio pro but it kinda gets in the way of wireless charging and my car mount so it might not be staying for long...

Case update:
I went on eBay last night and found a black Mujjo leather wallet case with a starting bid of $0.99. I jumped on it right away but was almost immediately sent an e-mail saying that the auction was cancelled. The seller must have realized his mistake.
I looked around some more and found someone selling a Burkley burnished leather snap on case for the Xs Max (but the website only mentions this case only being available for the Xs, so I'm confused as how this seller has it for sale).
I think I'm going to order these: https://www.distilunion.com/collect...ets/products/wally-junior?variant=19941345796 and slap one on the back of my Pitaka MagCase and one on the back of my Caudabe Sheath.

Nomad rugged case in black. I'm surprised just how thin this case really is. The sides are almost Sheath like thin. High quality case that feels good in the hand and is not too slippery. The leather on the back is very nice and smells great also. Has symmetrical cutouts on the bottom (don't like that) and a nice soft microfiber interior back. The buttons feel good but there is little to zero lip around the actual screen of the phone. Not going to be very good for any face down drops. :(

The packaging and everything about this case screams high quality. Even comes with a nice Nomad package that includes 3 cool Nomad stickers and literature.

Overall a great case and I like it.;)
