Since Caudabe said I didn’t have to return the synthesis I decided to try it a few days since I don’t have to worry about adding more scratches.

Some thoughts:
It’s really a nice compromise in giving a little more protection than Sheath without much more bulk. It’s still slightly thinner than the OtterBox symmetry. While the back is slick (and scratch prone!) the sides have excellent grip.

Beyond the scratching the bumps on the back aren’t even so the phone rocks when sitting on its back on a flat table. The front lip isn’t noticeably (to my eye) deeper than the Sheath. The volume buttons are excellent but the power button is a little stiff.

If it weren’t scratch prone, it could potentially become a daily driver to give a smidge more protection than the Sheath. (The latest of which I still haven’t filed to my satisfaction) i wonder if the gray synthesis with frosted translucent back shows less scratches (Caudabe swears it is the same material as that for iPhone X)

I tried another symmetry at Best Buy today. Slightly thicker than the synthesis and probably more protection. I’m still torn though about how much the case pulls away from the buttons due to the softer material around them.

In the end I’ll probably stick to the Sheath but I’ve been surprised that the synthesis is a reasonable case with some flaws that might be livable.

Between that and the other things wnyx posted I think mine will be going back. Sad, another failure for me. Nothings been able to kick the slippery suit out of my pocket.

I don't get any on mine. Make sure you give the phone a good clean to remove any oil from your fingers before applying the case.
Also hold the phone with the cloth to make sure you don't add any more greasy prints.

Best case for the XS/Max in my opinion as it still looks naked but has some protection.

Every now and then check for dust ingress on the edges. If you spot any you can lift out the edge and give it a good blow and it'll be blasted away. If not use a clean lint free cloth to lightly wipe it away. Microfibre of glass cleaning cloths are the best.

Hi I have a few questions comparing the XS Max Lucid Clear to the Sheath (I have the latter and am looking for a clear back option).

Does the Lucid Clear have a taller lip protecting the screen?

How would they compare in terms of drop protection? I have read the Lucid is thicker, but also more rigid? So not as protective as the Sheath?

Some reports say the Lucid is super slippery like a bar of soap or slipperier than the phone itself, others say not that bad. The Sheath has good grip. I'm curious for any additional comments. I understand the Lucid would not be as good as the Sheath in this department.

Are there any other options for clear, non-yellowing cases with similar protection and dimensions as the Sheath? I have the Ringke Fusion and am looking for something a bit thinner and not as funky looking.

Thank you.

That is too bad to hear about the Synthesis, the one I had for the 7+ didn't have any of those issues.

As for the symmetry, that pull away from the volume buttons is what killed it for me, I couldn't get past that. If there was a way to somehow combine the rigid fit of the solidsuit with the feel of the symmetry I think that would be the ideal case.

For the Lucid Clear question, I'm 99.9% sure it has zero lip. I had one for the 7+ that I ended up sending back due to no lip and no grip.

One other thing that doesn't bother me, but I can see it bugging others is that, although the case fits tight, it doesn't fit as tight around the power and volume buttons. There is a slight give in those areas. If I were to gently squeeze the case on the top/bottom/sides, there is no noise. When I gently squeeze the case where the buttons are, it makes a clicking noise (similar to the noise Apple keyboards make) because I'm pushing the case in (I hope that makes sense). Again, it doesn't bother me, but I wanted to share things that others might dislike about this case.

Oh, I guess another thing I just thought of is that there is absolutely no way this case has any drop protection. No way. Don't even think about it.

I know it sounds like I'm bashing this case, but I really like it. This is probably my final case (unless they miraculously create the Xs Max version of the 5s Apple leather case). I want to be honest and fair by giving people a heads up on what to expect before they order.

....that does look gorgeous actually!!

And, If I'm honest, I can't see any issues on the sides (the wet slick look) you were talking about, on your pics?!!!!

My Totallee glossy clear (soft) arrived. There's not really a lot to say except it's really, really thin and feels very nice and grippy. I like it a lot, particularly the individual holes for the speaker holes (but especially its thinness). I think I found my permanent case.
What I will say is stuff that don't bother me but others might not like:
1. It's a clear case, so making sure there is no dust trapped inside the case as I'm putting my phone in is difficult.
2. It's a clear case, so it shows smudges. (The back has a bunch of tiny dots all over it. I can't remember if this is supposed to hide smudges better or prevent the rainbow effect.)
3. The sides produce a weird effect that makes it look like there are wet streaks (pictured). The back doesn't have this effect, just the sides. (Again, I don't know if the back doesn't have this effect because of the tiny dots all over it.)
4. There is no lip. As you can see in my picture, my screen protector (ZAGG) sits higher than the case.

I'm glad you are enjoying the Totallee Clear case. It's still my favorite to use, when I don't feel I need much drop protection.

I have those marks on the inside of my case and I was even more careful than your instructions. I went overboard. Here is what I did:
- I turned on the bathroom sink and shower to steaming hot water with the door closed to get all of the dust out of the air
- I put on latex gloves
- I wiped the back and sides of the phone with a microfiber towel
- I wiped the back and sides of the phone with a damp microfiber towel
- I then wiped the back and sides of the phone with an eyeglass cleaning towel
- I used air duster to remove any dust from inside the case
- I used air duster to remove any dust from the back and sides of the phone
- I turned my phone upside down and put the case on slowly while using the air duster to remove any dust I might have missed

As you can see, I went a little crazy with this install and I still have those weird marks.

Jesus. That’s a pretty scratched up case for a few days.

That’s only one day of use and I always put it in a pocket with nothing else. None of my prior frosted cases (Belkin sheer grips for iPhone 5 or SE) had this scratch tendency.

[let's try this again...]

Fun news from Caudabe:

they will issue me a full refund for the Synthesis that arrived scratched up. i also don't have to send it back.

to receive a full refund, i need to destroy the case and send pictures showing the destruction! (they suggest i cut it in half or take a knife to the back)

i'm impressed with this creative solution and will gladly do it tonight (when i get home since i am currently using the Synthesis)

i can send pictures tomorrow if people are interested in seeing how strong the case is and/or how sharp my scissors are... good times!

Fun news from Caudabe: as promised, they said that i don't have to return the Synthesis. but since i didn't accept their offer to exchange it for another Sheath, they are asking for me to submit a picture showing i destroyed it by cutting it half or damaging the rear with a knife. fun stuff. i'll send pictures of the destruction to them and post them here if anyone is interested. i would do it right away, but i need to get home to a Sheath before destroying the Synthesis which my phone is sporting today.

i do like this approach rather than having to send in the case with or without having to pay for the return shipping.

I had to read this a few times to figure it out. Since you wanted a refund instead of an exchange, they asked you to destroy the item that they are issuing a refund for. Well, I guess that's fair (and fun).

ITS HERE AND I CANT BELIEVE I LIKE IT!!!!

We will see if that holds up over a few days. But my initial fears of it being too wide are gone. Actually less wide bulky than the Speck Grip which was less wide than the Solid suit.

The only downside I can see upon initial impressions is it ain’t as grippy as the Grip, duh? No fingerprints initially and i just did the Cheeseits test. Just put my hand in a box of cheeseits and the touches my carbon fiber to death and no fingerprints. Wonder if that coating wears off?

If they took this Mous case and put the Kung Fu grip sides that Silk has, you’d have a million seller.

Also, buttons are awesome. They are attached which i was worried about as all the new good buttons seem to come off the case they are on. These are suspended to the sides of the case. They have a satisfying pop. I like.

sorry for the poorly written post. i have edited it to hopefully make it clearer.

That's what I thought too, but it's not. I don't know if you're too young to get this reference, but it's similar to the effect you get when you open a brand new package of baseball card sleeves and some of them are stuck together.

EDIT: This message was a reply to Pug72's suggestion that what I'm seeing is moisture. I guess I quoted his post incorrectly, so it made it look like I was having a random conversation.
