I've had the CandyShell Grip in the past for the 5 and 6 and really like them, more so since I got them cheap at a discount store. I know the common complaint is that the grips come loose and detach, but since I've used them mainly on part-time "vacation" rotation duty, it hasn't been an issue for me.
Most cases seem to prioritize looks over grip, which then puts the onus on protection, but my philosophy is that: good grip = lesser probability of drops = less reliance on protection = safer phone.
Anyway, Best Buy has been putting the dark blue/black and black/black colors on "clearance" for a while. The normal clearance cut is a joke at only $4 off ($36), but when they have a weekend sale like now, it drops to $11.99. I missed the last couple, but finally ordered one for store pickup next week.
But I am curious as to whether this is one of those instances where the camera cutout isn't optimal for the XS. Not a big deal, but I'd still like to know, since the cheap blue one is model #103131-6587 and there is a full price blue is model #117124-6587 (also the one selling on Speck's own site). Obviously, something changed or was updated.
At one point, Speck was putting absurdly large camera openings so that they could be extra lazy and claim wider compatibility without having to update their designs, but they've since shied away from that practice.
Apple's little trick with the X/XS camera dimensions was a bit sneaky, but I still hate it when case makers first claim (compromised) compatibility, then come up with stealthily revised versions.
