Where I work, we have a pretty diverse age range of employees. I actually see the younger employees (low 20's) wearing watches more often than any other age range at the office. Now, that obviously doesn't mean they will be wearing an Apple Watch, but I just think it's interesting we have such different observations.
I'm on the sidelines for now about if I will be purchasing an Apple Watch or not. I cannot decide if it would look appropriate in a work environment or not (obviously Apple thinks so with the SS and Edition versions, but I am unable to decide at this time). If I were to go with one, it would depend on the final price, but I would lean toward the SS Space Black. If they find a way to make these upgradeable in the future, then I will most likely buy it. If not, then I personally do not see much point in making the purchase.
There is a VERY important point here, many are missing.
These guys, they are wearing watches, not for their function mainly, knowing the time, but for their own personal fashion statement.
They pick a watch that they like personally and says something about them.
They probably mostly have different watches as it gives them the feeling of individuality that most people like. People like things that are special and personal to them.
Now, please think about it.
Do you think they will get this same feeling by all wearing the same watch from Apple?
Other than a small size difference, which you'd probably not notice from a few feet away unless they were put size by side.
It's just the color that is different of the watch and a different strap.
I do wonder how a lot of men, or women would feel seeing load of people all around them wearing the same watch.
Gone is your own personal style, your individuality, what makes a watch, esp for guys who mostly won't be wearing any other jewelry, that is your own statement lost.
I do feel this is a very overlooked issue.
Sure it will be cool at 1st, you have the Apple watch and you feel special as very few have, but the more people who get it, the more it will lose this aspect, perhaps making people turn back to something mechanical to get back their own feeling of individuality.
Whilst, I am in no way saying I like Android Wear, or that Android Wear is currently as advanced as Watch OS, there is a potential long term plus on that side, in that, over time you could have 10, 20, 50 separate brands all with their own models and styles all offering Android Wear watches.
