My wife is taking over my 8 plus - an experiment I tried as a result of one of our Samsung S5 pairs taking a dive. Figured if I didn't like, Apple phones have good resale and could abort if needed. Like it so much that I'm all in for the phone I have hoped for years that they would build - the edge-to-edge, larger format screen with power specs and camera performance that appear to rival stand alones in many respects. That thing is a computer in the hand. And after using it for eight months I know my wife will acclimate to Apple really well. I sure did. Apple just might have us "cutting the cord" (cable).....

I am NOT the guy who gets in line for the newest phone. But I'm getting in line this time because my wife's Samsung is on it's last legs, and we decided that we would try to wait until Apple released the new product (big phone edge to edge was expected) and since that old S5 held out long enough to get us to the release date, we're now ready to get Apple phone #2 - Xs MAX 256 in GOLD. That beeeeeeuuuuuutiful gold :apple:

So for the first time in phone history, I'm going to be lining up to get a phone:eek: Or to get in a queue to get a phone later......or something like that:D

On the 6S Plus using iOS 12. That upgrade will keep me on this device for a while. It’s quick and does everything I want. I’d like to upgrade to the X line but I’d rather use my money elsewhere for now as the 6S Plus has been paid off for some time. Financial freedom is more important to me.

I was going to go 7+ to XS but now I'm just going to buy a new X for cheap. Can find them for like £750.

I've upgraded every phone since I came into he Apple Ecosystem. This is the first time I can say that I am not compelled; I'll stick with my iPhone X 256gb. I guess we're seeing the maturation of an industry - maybe every two years won't be a bad thing ;)
I love my 10 month old X. Not upgrading. I had a plus before and don’t see the need to upgrade this year at all.

May actually pass this time. I have the X and it’s fine for my needs at least right now. I just can’t see paying nearly $1000 for a phone. When the smoke clears and people have lived with all the models for a while I may reassess.
I agree!

I think upgrading from an X to Xs is a wast of money for me. I use to appreciate the speed bumps but were at a point in time that 30% faster than fast enough is not worth the money...

Shut out of the watching the event as my 6s is on ios9, but let's list the important take-aways:

ugly notch
no TouchID
no smaller phone
marginally longer battery life on the XS (compared to the year before)
measly 64gb base
starting price of 1k (OLED models)

Yeah, I'm fine with sticking to my 6s.

All of the comments from people stating "I am keeping my iPhone 7, 6, etc as it works great, especially after new battery", is the best endorsement for my buying the X Max. I mentioned earlier that I'm "lining up" for the first time, and one reason I'm doing it is that I get the feeling that it's a phone I can run for a long time. So many other iPhone owners do, and I'm sure I could too. If I had an X, or to consider trading the iPhone 8 plus for a new X (to end up with two new Xs) doesn't seem worth it.

But in hindsight, my 8 Plus was worth it, and I suspect the X Max will be too. And we'll run 'em both as long as they are operationally and security wise (updated with Apple software) viable. So it's the "I'm keeping mine" that reinforces this purchase as much as my positive iPhone 8 Plus experience did.

Am I the only person excited by the XR? Really like the look of the red one and I think the spec is pretty good for the price. Currently have an 8.

I'm not buying one, but for a "step down value offering" looks really impressive. Quite drool-y, actually. It's a full $350 less than the X Max at base price. That's substantial, yet it has that "new" via the full screen, face ID, and A12 chip. If my wife bugs me about hers being the older phone (and the fingerprint scanner for entry might end up having her tugging my sleeve) than this is the play. If she prefers a smaller unit it might also be the play. I have my eye on that as it might be the "option two" in my pair if my iPhone 8/X Max combo here draws too much sleeve tugging (have iPhone 8 Plus, giving to wife, buying X Max).

This lineup is Apple swinging for the fences, Babe Ruth style. It isn't the "one new phone" as much as it's the totality of this lineup and what it represents to EVERY potential buyer. A "Hot phone", latest greatest, along with a "pretty hot phone #2" (Xr) that brings the "new" for a lower price. But then there is the rest of the lineup that means that if you want the $500 phone, you can get it. Like the old school home button or 16 x 9 screens? No matter what the buyer is looking for, Apple has a bunch more answers, and that makes Apple more of a juggernaut than they already are.

I think Apple CRUSHES with this lineup.

I’m super excited for the Xr... the more I think about it, he more excited I get. I’m tired of the old design and excited to try FaceID. Also super pumped that the “lower cost” model has a lot of features the premium models offer!

I'm not buying one

Actually, nor am I now. Although Apple have stopped selling the 8 in Product Red, other retailers have not. I’ve just ordered an 8+. Back to the bigger size for me.

No XR for me, then, but: I keep Touch ID and 3D Touch, and I get twin cameras, and higher ppi than my 8 or the XR. No new processor, but I hear iOS 12 is fast, and it’s not like the 8 is slow.

Also I prefer the aspect ratio of the 8+ and I know all my apps are optimised to work with its screen.

But if Apple hadn’t made me wait 5 weeks to preorder the XR maybe I would have gone for it.

I refuse to pay over a grand for a 64gb phone, hard pass. My 8+ still suits me just fine. I no longer feel the need to have to get the latest and greatest.

Upgrading two phones: Mother’s 64gb 8+ and my 256gb X to 256gb and 512 Xs Max respectively. Oh, and we’ll both get the bew watches
