If you like Longmire, and you want more intensity, more black humor, incredible performances and some of the best writing (from some of the best source material), you should check out Justified (it has some of the same vibe that I think would click with you).

Thank you - will do :)

The original source is Elmore Leonard, who you might not know, but he was a western/crime/pulp writer, who had a very distinctive style, really interesting dialog, with a dense pattern, playful use of language, that was the inspiration for Quinton Tarantino - in fact, his novel Rum Punch was adapted into the screenplay for the QT movie Jackie Brown (one of his best, though somewhat overlooked), as well as Get Shorty (not QT, but still with really fast, smart, dialog). Justified (the characters/concept) was from his short stories - another of which was adapted for the terrific 3:10 to Yuma.

Just some additional FYI

After thoroughly frying my brain speedwatching Twin Peaks: The Return, something a little less taxing (as rewearding as it was!) is in order.

Browsing Netflix I stumbled upon Suits, which has been recommended to me in the past. Seems fun so far, and by golly that Meghan Markle is something else. Also, it's amusing seeing Rick Hoffman playing the role he does here (and doing it well), since I always for some reason at first glance associate him with the brief role he had in Hostel.

Seems there are five or six seasons to watch, so I should be set for the couple of weeks of vacation I have left.

I enjoyed Suits.

I enjoyed Suits.

I've advanced a few episodes since the previous post, and it's fair to say I'm liking this a lot. The premise is interesting, the actors nail their roles and the "bigger" story arc as well as the individual cases are entertaining. What's not to like!

Thanks !!!! Wife likes it and I do too. Watching it now. Definitely faster moving than Longmire. I like the main actor too from Santa Clarita diet. Really appreciate the recommendation. On episode 3.

I was a fan of the Rum Diaries movie based on the Thompson novel. If you enjoy old writers of the era, the film may appeal to you.

Suits is a great show, up to about season four or five, can't remember when we lost interest. But the first seasons, for us anyway, are outstanding! And yeah Meghan Markle!

Just started season two of "Jessica Jones" and really digging it. Lots of little twists with this season and there is a rather big reveal for the season in episode six or seven (can't remember where we stopped at).

So far it is pretty good.

Yep, I'm at somewhere in the middle of season 3 at the moment, and while I'm still thoroughly entertained the main story arc with one of the main characters and his predicament feels like it could get old after a while. Still like the characters and their banter though, so I'm going to keep watching for now.

Yes and yes! The bantering is some of the reason we liked it also. Luis still cracks me up and he is one of my favorite characters of the show!

Same here! His character (or maybe just the way he portrays the character) has evolved quite a bit during the few seasons, and at this point he just needs to be on screen for me to start smiling. I especially enjoy his scenes with Donna. Then again, I enjoy Donna by her lonesome as well, so there's that.

Yes to all of the above! He can be such a rat sometimes, yet you still feel for the guy! Donna. Well just seeing her on screen is good enough for me. :D

We stopped watching Suits after season three, about midway into four. Got too boring and the drama killed the buzz of the show, IMO.

I can see this happening. Maybe there needs to be something "more", and new for the show to cover to keep the viewer interested for six, or however many seasons there are at the moment.

I very rarely like to invest time into shows that go on for more than five seasons or so, because I like that there's a story the show want's to tell, and that it's told in a compact manner with a clear beginning and end. Unless it's an anthology type show with new storylines each season.

They all started to run together, so I can't really recall when exactly we stopped, but it was right about that time also.
Yeah, it was one of the reasons we stopped watching Royal Pains on USA back in 2011. The show lost touch with the original premise. We did watch White Collar from start to finish, though. That was a solid show.

Finished all of season one within a day and half, it was a lazy weekend. We both really liked it and it kept us guessing until the end. Only complaint was during the last two episodes and dealing with the Sister. Bring on season 2!

Same here! I just finished reading the book, once I finished the show, and enjoyed it quite a bit. Very cool world building in this one.

Wait there is a book!? How do they compare to each other?

Ha, same here! White Collar was a great show and was one of the few that actually kept you guessing throughout the seasons. Was sad to see that one go. Royal Pains went down hill rather quickly in my opinion. Another one that kinda lost it towards the end and I am glad they ended it when they did was "Burn Notice."

The book was good in different ways. It didn’t really feel like an expanded or more nuanced version of the show (as is often the case comparing a book to its film adaptation), rather this felt like a whole different take on the same general concept/plot.

The first half was nearly identical to the show, but the second half went a different way. The book had almost no flashbacks, and surprisingly they weren’t needed. I also thought the MC was a touch more likable.

MC = Main Character? Just wanting to make sure I am not missing something.

I am going to have to look into the book. I have a list of books in my queue but I really liked the series so this might be moved up on my list!
