I'm wondering if I should go for the 12 Pro or the Mini. Today I have the 7 Plus, which is WAY to big and heavy.
Sometimes I just leave the phone and just wear my applewatch because of the size.
The smaller battery isn't any concern for me, but how small will the keyboard be?.
What should I choose?, maybe the best thing would be to wait and see them both in real life?.
In theory, that won’t be much of a noticeable difference in day-to-day use, in my opinion.Check out this product from the Apple Store:

I wont have to charge the mini as frequently as my Xs.In theory, that won’t be much of a noticeable difference in day-to-day use, in my opinion.
Oh yeah for sure, I meant the difference between the 12 Mini and the 12 Pro. The 12 Mini is a battery upgrade over the Xs.I wont have to charge the mini as frequently as my Xs.
Your wife does not like bigger phones but still you talked her into a 12 mini.
She must be very happy with a man like you where she does not need to decide anything by herself..
Sounds like you are being very presumptuous unless I am misunderstanding your intent here?
She doesn’t like big phones so I suggested she get a smaller phone. She’s capable of making her own decisions and isn’t some kind of subservient mouse. Maybe you’ve taken my post far too literally and are looking to provoke?
If you have a 6s would the mini be considered an upgrade?
It will be like going from a Yugo to a 2020 TeslaIf you have a 6s would the mini be considered an upgrade?
It sounds like you made a good choice. After over six months of being positive I was going to replace my original SE/64 with the Mini, I preordered a SIM-free 6.1" 256GB Pro this morning. The larger display (70 yo eyes) and battery capacity were the major factors for the 6.1" "Midi" over 5.4", and the 2X optical x 5X digital = 10X zoom telephoto, LIDAR, RAM, and stainless steel chassis were factors for the Pro. Since the 6.7" Max is too big for me, I spent the premium for its advantages on 256GB storage.
How usable are the screens on the mini vs the regular? I'm coming from an 8 and like the small form factor but would like a bigger screen for my middle-aged eyes. How does that larger mini screen at 5.4" translate into real world usage?
While the screen on the 8 is technically smaller, you can use every bit of it since there are no curves or notches. With the regular 12 being only slightly larger than the 8 it may be time to make the leap to the larger phone.
Here’s the points-pixels issue discussed on ATP: https://overcast.fm/+R7DWa6skM/1:05:22I'm still planning to buy the iPhone 12 mini, but it has one downside compared to the rest of the iPhone 12 lineup.
A little bit of background: a point is a standard unit of measurement in iOS development to keep everything the same size across all devices. With non-Retina, 1 point corresponds to 1 pixel. With Retina, 1 point corresponds to 2×2 pixels (2x) or with the newer models 3×3 pixels (3x). As you can imagine, 3x results in a higher density and thus a higher level of detail. Ideally, 1 point corresponds to exactly 3×3 pixels. This is indeed the case with the iPhone 12, 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max. Sadly, this is not the case with the iPhone 12 mini.
The point resolution that developers see in Xcode for the iPhone 12 mini is 375 × 812 points (the same as the iPhone X/Xs/11 Pro). With 3x, the pixel resolution would then be 1125 × 2436 pixels. But this is not the 12 mini's actual resolution: its resolution is 1080 × 2340 pixels. What does this mean? That the 3x image is downscaled before it's displayed on the iPhone. And it's not pretty:
1125 ÷ 1080 = 1.041666666666667.
2436 ÷ 2340 = 1.041025641025641.
We've had downscaling before with the Plus models, but at least those were downscaled exactly 1.15.
All this is probably not a problem in practice, but it might be good to know before you order your iPhone 12.

You need to relate this into a picture of the downscaling you’re talking about it would be easier to see than these formulas. I linked to the whole sigment related to points and pixels. Part 1 is about the same number of points being ‘compressed’ inside a smaller rectangle (i.e. a smaller picture), which I didn’t talk about explicitly. Part 2 is about the not-exactly-3x issue, which is exactly what I talked about. You need to relate this into a picture of the downscaling you’re talking about it would be easier to see than these formulas. According to Steve Troughton-Smith, it will. It’s possible that the mini might have a zoom feature
