Just got my tempered glass screen protecter in for the Mini and it's the perfect size for me. The width is not an issue coming from a 7, it's just barely skinner

How usable are the screens on the mini vs the regular? I'm coming from an 8 and like the small form factor but would like a bigger screen for my middle-aged eyes. How does that larger mini screen at 5.4" translate into real world usage?
The screen width of the mini is about the same as the 8 (0.77 mm smaller), and the mini screen height is about 20% more than the 8. So coming from the 8 you would mainly gain more scrolling space.

I did professional photography and the lenses I used most were a medium and an ultra wide. Whats the point of the zoom lens? to take photos at the zoo? Usually people take selfies and have body movement control when taking photos of others. iPhones already do the Bokah effect without the telephoto lens and this was the prime reason to use a zoom lens on my cameras. Unless im missing something here, I dont see myself using the telephoto unless im trying to take a video of someone being an idiot from far away to Catch a license plate. I was thinking of getting the Pro but my heart is telling me to go Mini.

The Tele lens on an iPhone is roughly equivalent to a “standard” 50mm lens on a 35mm camera. It’s not a zoom by any stretch of the imagination. And it’s way more useful to most photographers than the gimmicky-by-comparison Ultra Wide.

Everything is moving to usb-c. I don't like the problems i've had with lightning (my house is a wasteland of nearly dead lightning to usb-A cables). I hate how near impossible it is to remove a lightning cable end from the iphone one handed, arghhhhhhh! I have many usb-c to usb-c cables. My macbook pro has 4 ports of which 2 or 3 are always available. usb-c is the future that's almost here.

i suspect that Apple will never move to usb-c & that their goal is to produce a fully sealed object like the watch - the MagSafe charging is a huge clue as to the direction that we’re going in. Lightening will stick around until then.

I couldn’t sift through the thread, but are there any visual comparisons on the 12 6.1” compared to the 11 pro at 5.8”?

No different than the XR and 11 screen size for last 2 years, shouldn't be too hard to find on youtube etc. unless you mean actual size? .7 mm thinner and 2.6mm taller, same width and weight as 11 pro.

Thanks man. I saw a few comparison pics and I remember not liking the size of my old xr. I was close to ordering the 128gig 12, but if it’s about the same size and weight as the xr then I’ll have to rethink it.

12 pro screen is the same size as XR/11, actual phone size is smaller closer to 11 pro, weight is same as 11 pro but bit taller and bit thinner is what i meant. the standard 12 is lighter than 11 pro/12 pro though..
Too many iPhones lol.

11 pro is the mini for now haha.

good photo of here of the difference, the 12 pro looks bigger than the specks say.

Your wife does not like bigger phones but still you talked her into a 12 mini.
She must be very happy with a man like you where she does not need to decide anything by herself..
you have no class...I think this site was created to have fun! :)

Lol I know. I thought I was done for a while with these phones. But, tmobile is offering me $300 for my se so it’s kind of hard to pass up. Might as well spring for the pro IF it’s smaller than my original 11 pro.

I’m thinking about getting the mini to replace my iPhone XR. I got the XR two years ago to replace my iPhone 7 and I have quite mixed feelings about it.

On one hand it is a good, fast phone and even the two year old battery holds up well. The big screen is also really nice for watching video and doing productivity stuff.

But on the other hand it is just so big and heavy. It is really uncomfortable to use with one hand and cumbersome in lots of different situations.

I’ve noticed that even though I think that I’ll use the phone with two hands I often end up in situations where I try to do it with one hand anyway. Quite often I’m holding something in one hand and just wanting to check something quick on the phone.

I really liked the size of my old IP7, so I think the mini would feel really good to use. My only worry is that the display might be a little too small (coming from the XR), but it might be worth it.

... the mini will be great, has a great size & form factor - but what about the battery in relation to the normal iPhone 12??

Come to think of it that’s a good question. Currently have an SE 2020 abs battery stinks. I’m a heavy user and have to charge like 2-3x a day

I had an Original iPhone, then an iPhone 3G, then iPhone 4, iPhone 6 and iPhone X. Basically every iteration of design, I’ve followed, each from release day.

Not sure how you didn't feel any first adopter regrets in all that time - original iPhone was an icon, but the 3GS speed blew the 3G away, 4 had durability issues that was fixed in the 4S, 6 which I had as well and regretted was saddled with the original Touch ID (2nd iteration in 6s onwards), X was a great phone but XS improved Face ID.

2nd revisions of every design iteration seems to hit the sweet spot from features/tech, following up the design with content. These days though I wonder what else they can add or not anymore.

Looking forward to getting this next month. Would have preferred a black option with bare metal sides but otherwise the mini looks great.👍

A lot of the issues you mention exist only in the warped reality of forums where people amplify minor problems. I have also owned a V1 butterfly keyboard for 2 years and never had any problems with it... maybe I’m just a lucky guy.
Either way, to me, the design innovation is always a major reason to upgrade, “maturity“ increme improvements less so. I got a kick out of how beautiful the iPhone 4 was, for example, and laughed at the fact that some folks thought that if you held it a particular way you could get the signal indicator to drop by one level.
