That’s valuable feedback. As phones have gotten larger, “You get used to it“ is often the de facto answer that gets trotted out in response to concerns of unwieldy size and excessive weight. But it seems like a fundamental quality of life component—ergonomics—has been completely ignored in favour of churning out these pocket-busting behemoths. So I really hope the Mini lives up to its billing in this area, even if I’m not expecting it to achieve 3G/4/5 levels of comfort.

"Get used to it" also admits there's a problem but not fix. I can't get used to something I hate, ever. If something I use doesn't satisfy me 100% I don't keep it. In fact, I vote with my wallet. I wish others still did, but people stopped caring about 100% satisfaction in the 1990s, and started instead following the status quo. It's a shame, really. Instead of doing anything about it, we just accept imperfection today.

I’m concerned about the battery life coming from an 8. I’m a very heavy user and start my day at 5:3AM. Often by 8:30AM I’m down to 20% and charge on my portable power bank. About 9:30AM it’s fully charged then about 1:00PM down to 20%. Charge it on my portable power bank and at 2:0PM it’s fully charged at time for me to go home.

Coming from a Xʀ I’m also worried about the battery life. I’ll wait for some real world reports from lads and lasses on this forum before I buy one!

For an average user, I think it would last a day; At-least till the time phone battery is new and less than 100 cycles. The challenge with smaller battery will come in year 2 when battery life itself is 90% or may be little less.

think smaller battery will start to hurt then.

of-course, cheaper phone makes it lot easier to upgrade every year or may be 15/16 months.

I am still opting for mini as my usage of phone is very limited; I technically use it only for calling and camera, for all stuff I use my iPad. and that's why mini is perfect for my usage.

I agree on the battery life through the years, but the Mini is not CHEAP... here in Europe is 809€ the 64gb option...

The SE can be considered as"cheap" in the Apple context (489€ the 64 gb option).

Actually, you are correct; I am in India and its not cheap here as well. In-fact, there is an article published that says that if one opts for 256GB pro model, he/she can visit Dubai for weekend, buy it over there and still end up saving money 🤣

5s inside mini case, next to or inside 11 pro max case.

5s is pressed right next to the mini case inside so the open space is pretty accurate.

I just want a phone that doesn't tire out my pinky finger when Im watching YouTube in bed and I run the risk of it falling on my face when I try to hit the back button in the top left corner one handed.
You’re gonna watch YouTube with a 12 Mini? Don’t forget how narrow the Mini is. You may not tire out your pinky, but you will tire out your eyes. Ask Santa to get you a microscope.

I really want the mini for the size, but I'm worried about the battery. In 2 years my XS has dropped down to 84% capacity and I am really noticing it, and it sucks.

12 Mini stated battery capacity: 2,227mAh
XS battery capacity: 2,658 mAh
But my XS is down to 84%... and 84% of 2,658 is 2,232 mAh, or almost exactly the capacity of the 12 mini!

Not everyone has trash eyes.. if yours are trash, ask Santa to get you some glasses.
Remember, people were watching YouTube on 3.5” screens before this phone.. no issues.

yes but your XS doesn’t have the A14.. and you don’t know if the battery composition is the same In the mini, as your XS.

a lot more factors in play than just mAh numbers. Plus, a healthy battery is still better than a degregated Battery even if they have the same mAh numbers (one after 2yrs vs one new).

I see we are both well prepared :D, here's my SE1 in Mini's case next to 12 case. Only there I noticed the camera cutout is smaller for Mini, do you think the lens will be too?

I would but too impatient so I'm getting the 12 Pro tomorrow. Would be good if they have a 12 Pro Mini with similar premium materials. I'd definitely wait and be all over that!

I wonder how many folks are settling for the 12 or 12 Pro now, because they can't wait three weeks for the Mini or Max? These are conveniently timed out so that the return period on the 12 and 12 Pro would have passed by the time pre-order for the Mini and Max versions go live.

Amazon (in Spain) gives return period up to January 31, they always do that for purchases on end october, because of holidays (and if not, they give 30 days, no 14 like Apple).

That's nice. I know most places (if not all places) in the US only give a 14-day return policy on devices like this. A lot of people may find too that carriers like AT&T (in the US) limit the amount of returns you can do within a calendar year. I was told recently that AT&T only allows you one return per year.

Make all the excuses you'd like (I tried), the screen/body to battery ratio is terrible.

I know there is a lot more to this. This is a physical representation only.

IP12M 412mAh per Inch of real estate

IP11P 525mAh per Inch of real estate
IP12P 460mAh per Inch of real estate (5G, OLED)
IP12PM 550mAh per Inch of real estate (5G, OLED)
IPSE2020 387mAh per Inch of real estate

Pixel 5 680mAh per Inch of real estate (5G, OLED)
Pixel 4 (terrible) 491mAh per Inch of real estate
Pixel 4a 5G 626mAh per Inch of real estate (5G, OLED)
Pixel 3 530mAh per Inch of real estate
S20 5G 645mAh per Inch of real estate (5G, OLED)
S10e 534mAh per Inch of real estate
Rumored Sony Xperia 5.4 display 4000mAh - 740mAh per Inch of real estate

So that tells me it's better than SE 2020 and not as good as all the bigger phones. That's basically what I'd expect.

I think that how it compares to this ratio on android devices is less relevant, with the different operating systems and all.

I don´t find one time where my SE 2020 touch low battery... never; I´m at home 90% of the day, in the car I have charger, and thats it.

Maybe someone who is outside long hours and use the phone a lot may need another phone or an external battery I guess.

Apple themselves give 28 days. You only need to start the return process within 14 days, and then you have a further 14 days to send the phone back or take it into store. But that extended period until the end of January would always be welcome.

I totally agree. The mini is not for everyone but for those of us that are light users it really isn’t an issue. My iPhone 8 is still operating on a 3 year old battery. My battery still last me all day most of the time. There are occasions I plug it in like when I get on a talk marathon with my sister. It really comes down to how you use your phone. I use my iPads mostly when I’m home.

Regarding the Mini’s battery life, is there any reason to doubt Apple’s published numbers? I know this sounds like a sarcastic question but I’m actually serious—are Apple’s estimates usually out to lunch, or can we take them at face value?

Ymmv.
