I held on to my original SE for about 3y before I caved an bought the Xs on sale.

The Xs is def a better phone and I don’t miss the (in comparison) washed out LCD of the SE. But the Xs is a brick and close to impossible to use one handed.

10 months in and I still feel like I’m going to drop it every time I hold it with one hand.. (12 Pro is even bigger and heavier = Not an option).

At almost 2x the cost of my original SE the mini is far from a bargain, but it’s also not made from stuff they found in an old parts bin either.

My Xs will be replaced for sure. Will miss 3D Touch, what an amazing feature for text editing!
Similar situation as you. I had my 5s for about 6 years, loved that thing. Went for the XS a year ago and have regretted it since (for the same reasons as you.. too big, heavy). I will definitely be getting the mini. Any suggestions on storage size? I plan to keep this for at least 5 years. My XS is 64gb and has 30gb used up so far. Would it make sense going for a 128gb for future proofing? My 5s was 16GB but I managed to keep space free by deleting stuff, backing it onto an external hard drive etc.

Perfect phone for my use case & desires! I will be placing my order for SIM-Free 256GB Blue. It’ll replace my iPhone 8 which will be a travelling spare.

ps: Hans from Verizon was so amped his words were hard to understand ‘the most expensive 5G network (yet he actually said most expansive 5G network).

such a huge contrast from the OG iPhone release on at&t.

Nah, I would just get the 64GB model. That’s what I’m doing anyways, upgrading from XS 64GB (20GB available).

Write me up for another Mini 64 GB Blue. Can't wait for 6/11 to come! Hopefully the orders will be dispatched in a speedy manner... Will switch from my 5-year old 6S, so it's gonna be a pretty big jump.

I will be, and I can’t wait! I’m still using an iPhone 6 so it will be a real upgrade for me.

Without fingerprint sensor and the corona face-mask problem it's a big downgrade in terms of security and log-in... also, you're going to miss the 2nd port that can be used for microphone and headphones... (although this can be "emulated" by buying a lightning-to-2-ports hub)

Yes!!! I've been waiting for so long. My old iPhone SE battery is realy giving out. Just the right size for my hands; square edges easier for holding; price point is HIGH though....

My wife has decided on the 12 Mini over the 12 after pretty much coming to terms with a bigger phone for the past week. I sort of talked her into it as well as I know how much she hates bigger phones. Looks like a very powerful device and a nice portable size.
Your wife does not like bigger phones but still you talked her into a 12 mini.
She must be very happy with a man like you where she does not need to decide anything by herself..

Sounds like you are being very presumptuous unless I am misunderstanding your intent here?

She doesn’t like big phones so I suggested she get a smaller phone. She’s capable of making her own decisions and isn’t some kind of subservient mouse. Maybe you’ve taken my post far too literally and are looking to provoke?

I'm on the edge between 64 GB Mini or 128 GB Pro, anything in between is IMO not worth paying the extra.

For all those on the thread saying 'I'm not sure about the mini as it hasn't got xxx'...

Every product is a compromise and every product has a 1 or more key features that define it.

For the mini, it's providing a smaller version of the regular phone for that that really miss a phone that you can use (nearly) one handed and can go into your pocket, handbag etc. without you feeling the weight.

I have a feeling that the mini is going to be a sleeper hit TBH.

I'm not sure that a pro version of the mini would even be possible as there's likely not going to be enough space for all of the components. And if there was, the battery would likely have to be smaller & then battery life would likely suck.

Personally, I like that the pro models are bigger with better cameras - it's important that there's a wider feature gap between the regular iPhone and the pro phone than just the use of steel over aluminium (personally, I think that this feature gaps needs to keep on getting wider).

The 6.1 pro iPhone is turning into the curious one. It seems to be aimed at the sort of people who are thinking:

'I want the latest and greatest as a status symbol, but I don't certainly don't want to lug around the biggest size - and I don't care about the pro camera features either'.

Looking at the battery ratings Apple is giving, I think the battery life will be totally fine for those of us who want a phone of this size. It looks to slightly outpace the iPhone X and XS in metrics like streaming video, and looks just slightly behind something like the iPhone XR, which had shockingly good battery life.

We shouldn't expect iPhone 11 Pro Max battery life out of this thing, but I think it will hold up quite well. And remember that it should top up faster percentage-wise with having a smaller overall capacity.

I love small form factor of the 4s.. i know its too small for apples revenue generation, but they should have made a 5" model so that it would fit the iphone 5s form factor which sported a 4" screen with bezels. nonetheless, this will be a record breaker for apple and they will realise that the mojo is back in the compact form factor! and every one else will soon follow suit.
two things i miss in the MINI
1 - the stainless steel band which the pros have
2 - touch id on the side panel like the newer ipads - nobody wants to remve their masks to scan while in public

Me.

iPhones should be small.

Those who needs big iPhones should get the iPads.

It's sad that we need a James Bond music to show a "small" phone.

15 years ago, every company was fighting to get a smaller, thinner one.

Now all those visions are gone.

three briefcases too

Looking at the side by side pics on Apple's website, the difference between the 6.1" screens and 5.4"screens is at first glaring. Then we have to realize that for all of us who love and own the X form factor, 5.4" is not that far off from 5.8" so I don't think the difference will feel too great. I for one went for a X instead of a XR because of the fact that it was smaller.

Convenient to keep in a pocket. Miserable to look at with eyeballs older than 13 years old.
This is where Accessibility comes in handy 🤣 [Display > Text Size > HUGE!!]

A Blue 64GB unlocked mini for me. Held on to the SE for 4 years before switching to the SE2 in April, but the smaller size will always get me.

I went from an X to an XR and then to the 11 Pro. Hated the XR form factor, just too big for one handed operation. Seems like the 12 and 12 Pro are in between the 11 Pro and the XR size wise. But like you said going from 5.8" to 5.4" for the up side is an easy one for me.

I am so excited for this! I got an Xr to replace my lost 8... and it feels so HUGE!

Even with the 8; I would occasionally borrow a coworker's SE Series 1 and would yearn for a smaller, yet more modern display.

I'm hurting for cash now because, well, many reasons -- but once I get back on my feet, out of bed, and back to work this will be my first purchase!

I have a iPhone XS and looking at mini I was on the fence with the 12 or mini regarding battery life but after ppl saying the mini betters the xs battery then mini it is.

I’d like to know if they factored in any 5G usage on those estimated battery life figures. If the iPhone 12 Mini has better battery life than my iPhone X, factoring on periodic 5G usage, that might seal the deal for me.

I don’t care too much about LIDAR or the top end camera features, and I can live without the stainless steel frame.

To be clear though, it's going to be worse in some areas. I wouldn't expect better battery life per se, but at least equal battery in a much smaller footprint. XS Will still be rated slightly better strictly in things like audio playback, call time, etc. Screen use should be on par, if not better than the XS though with a lower resolution display, better chip efficiency, etc.
