12 Mini finally arrived today. First impressions are that it really is a great size. I do not miss the additional screen real estate coming down from my X (appreciate it isn’t a huge drop), but the phone itself isn’t much bigger than the original SE.

Having had reservations about typing, the smaller screen is not a problem at all. For everything i use the phone for, this size is so much better. I hope Apple continue to keep a ‘mini’ size with the same spec through the upgrade lifecycle. Only thing yet to be confirmed is how the battery performs compared to the X. Hopefully it will also be fine.

How many icons fit on the Home Screen of the mini? Is it the same as the 11?

So it looks like 4 iPhones (my iPhone 12 Mini being one of them) were stolen from the UPS truck at some point on Nov 13th. UPS is apparently conducting a security investigation. I should have just done in store pick up - ugh...

Much as I wanted to love my Green Mini and make it my primary phone I got a 12 Pro Max today instead. I had a 11 Pro Max before. The Mini will become my backup / secondary phone which is great because it’s light in the pocket and excellent at the other non-multimedia tasks I need it for!
My green mini has surprised me with its suitability to my sensitive vision and by giving me decent battery life so far. I’m not using 5G. I’ve got two lines and my main phone number SIM card is in it to stay, I think.

I don’t seem to be experiencing that problem with a screen protector and case blocking swipe/flashlight/camera activation. I don’t know if that’s due to a hardware difference or the kind of case and screen protector I’m using.

Typing is a not cramped overall, but I find the space bar not as wide as muscle memory would apparently lead my fingers to believe.

I intend to keep this as my main phone. I have a 12 Pro Max on order for my second line. For when I want a lot of battery power and a large display as well as a better portrait lens. So I guess I’m doing the reverse of you.

I upgraded from a 2016 SE to the mini and I’ve got mixed feelings about it, but overall positive.

I love that the screen fits more now. It’s really noticeable and I also get an extra row of apps on the home screen. The camera is... quite an upgrade, especially the front facing one. All the haptic feedback (that’s what you call the little vibration right?) in many apps is really cool too.

I can finally use backtap too! Admittedly I’m currently using it for things that wouldn’t be necessary with a smaller screen, but it’s a really nice feature nonetheless.

I’m just not so keen on face id. It usually fails to recognise me in the mornings. And I wish it could be just a little smaller because I can’t use it one-handed anymore.

Face ID will get better the more you use it. If not, try re scanning your face and try for at least one scan making an angle similar to what you present when you look at your phone when you wake up.

I am impressed “darling” (Absolutely Fabulous reference per your avatar). I really didn’t expect such a positive review from you. Glad you are liking your mini thus far.

Thanks for the advice! I did read on Apple's support website that each time it fails and asks you to enter the pass code it will adapt its model a little so I'm hoping it will improve with time. But if not I may try adding an alternative appearance for my morning face.

If anything it actually helps me wake up because I use an alarm app that requires me to unlock my phone to disable it. I was fumbling with it for a good half a minute one morning trying to shut the thing up lol.

Got my iPhone mini blue. Definitely the phone I was waiting for all these years. I never liked the original iPhone 6-8, SE2 because of losing screen real estate. This phone hits the perfect size to functionality ratio.

Gaming does seem a bit slower on here though compared to normal iPhone 11.

Interesting, I wonder why gaming would be slower on the mini than the 11 since the mini has a faster processor and the same amount of RAM?

It may be slower because it’s still doing all the new phone stuff. I’m not sure myself exactly what that is but for the next several days your phone is going to be doing stuff in the background that may make it slow or stutter on occasion. Sometimes even get warm or even hot. lol, I upgrade annually and still forget every year that it’s going to be doing that.

Just received it yesterday, this is the best phone I've ever had. Absolutely love the form factor, and it is the most beautiful looking iPhone ever to me. I can't for the life of me understand why big phones have became such a craze, it's almost as if phone manufactures just got to the point where phones couldn't get any smaller and just decided to start going the other way. If I want to do stuff that requires more screen real estate I would use my iPad. My pinky would always hurt from resting my 11 Pro on it while using it, this phone feels so much better in my hand. I'd even like it to be shrunk perhaps another inch but maybe I'm crazy. Perfect phone.

You had mentioned your sensitive vision- do you mean issues with other phones due to the PWM flicker and eye strain? Or just the smaller size?

I'm on my iphone 7, bought an SE2 a month ago but couldn't tell the difference between it and my 7. I mean seriously it felt maybe the tiniest bit faster, but the 7 keeps working. Didn’t feel like it was worth spending 400 bucks on, when I don’t actually need a new phone. So I returned it, with plans to buy the mini instead. At least get something new for my money. But now that it’s out I'm still undecided. I’m just so comfortable with the Touch ID setup, I use Apple Pay a lot when grocery shopping so it feels a little like a downgrade to have to put in a passcode because I’m wearing a mask. My 7 is aging but honestly I bet I could get another year out of it. At this point I don’t even use a case or screen protector anymore, and it doesn’t bother me at all to worry about dropping it. It’s still in excellent condition too. Yeah, I might just hold on a while longer.

I’m kinda holding out for a notch less and bezel less iPhone, and/or at least one with Touch ID. But will probably buy an SE if I have to in the mean time. Or who knows maybe I’ll cave and buy a 12 mini at some point.

Anyone know what happens if I accept the free 3 months of Apple Arcade that come with the device, if I’ve already paid for a year in advance?

Will I get credits/an extension or do I just lose those 3 months?

Just got my mini and my wife her Max
Difference is massive!!

Still seeing it up so will have some feedback tomorrow and see how I feel vs my 12 Pro

Ok. So 5 days later and I've just sold my iPhone 12 Pro.
I'm just so in love with the Mini.
I enjoy using my phone one handed and the size and weight of it makes it so convenience.

With regards to battery life, no it doesn't compare to the bigger phones, but it's in no way bad and given that I plug my phone to Apple Carplay, it means it's charging while I'm about in the car and the juice I get from that charge is enough for me to run the Mini all day.

Count me satisfied

So no case or gsp then?

All this while I was completely sold for mini - went with wife today and as soon as she had a looked at mini, she said..its just no different than X; 1 hand usage, smaller size..was all thrown out of window.

Finally, she offered 12 as gift.. Ah well..sure, I put the mini down and picked up 12, black.. The word "GIFT"
makes super large phones suddenly fit my pockets :D🤣

But on serious note, mini is really cute, very comfortable in 1 hand and really if your usage is mostly 1 handed, its the most perfect phone.
So, have been using the 12 for few days now and for me, its impossible to carry this phone when cycling. it falls out of the pocket. its like I need to keep 1 hand on the front pocket all the time and cycle to ensure that it doesn't slide out :(

I use series 1 model of Apple Watch so have to carry this thing around so that I get GPS track of my cycling, elevation, etc.

I don't regret buying the bigger phone, just the limitations are there when you are trying to workout, or wear tight clothing or jeans with smaller pockets.

The backup experience is cool but for me it became an overkill, especially if there both new. Have fun though.

For cycling, there are garments with zippered pockets for the various types of riding. For workouts, I see people wearing armbands with large phones.

I prefer to have the Watch with GPS, but your post reminds me that my new mini will be and lighter in any pockets if I choose to bring it along.

yes, agree - need to get couple of shorts with zippered pockets now; I am not a big fan of armbands, somehow I never liked them. To run/walk, its been okay, just that when I am cycling it tends to slip out of the pocket.
