I am.

After complaining loudly and often about Apple abandoning the small form factor phone I can't very well not jump in and buy it when they finally release an all new one. Arrived this evening, cost me $0 + sales tax.

Going to be a nightmare going from an SE to all the new functionalities I've mostly ignored for years now. 😅
I have no doubt you will get over the new functionality horror very quickly. :)

What setting do you think was affecting your mini that a reset fixed the substantial battery drain? I too am feeling the same way about the battery feeling like its draining a bit too fast. Should I consider resetting settings? (I setup my mini using the bluetooth data transfer from my 11 pro)

Has anyone else experienced this?
Sometimes, settings can get corrupt during a transfer or restore. Double check your cellular settings, along with your location services settings. You could have a weak signal that is using more battery or some apps that may be accessing location all the time, or apps that for whatever reason, aren’t running like they should. It could be a myriad of causes.

I originally bought the 12 Pro, and called Apple today asking about my return window. Well, 3 hours later and I have the 12 Mini updating iOS...

This thing is small. Much lighter. And this is weird...but it just feels more like what an iPhone should feel like to me. My last iPhone was the 7 (I loved that phone) and then I took a sabbatical to the Note 9. The 12 Pro felt too large in the hand, a bit heavy and not that special. And between a 12.9" iPad Pro, a Mac Pro and a 12 Pro I have too many 'Pro' end devices and large screens to keep me distracted. I need to stay off my phone more, not consume more off of it. The mini makes that a bit easier.

I'm going to give it a few days before I return the Pro, but I have a feeling I'll be keeping the Mini. It just feels right.

I was originally a no-go because of my concerns about battery life coming from an 11pro, so I got the 12pro initially. After a few days of using the 12 pro I returned it because the square edges on the slightly larger size were incredibly uncomfortable to use one handed (I have 2 small kids so need to use 1 handed quite often). This made me begin to reconsider the mini. I typically average between 4-5 hours daily SOT (mostly between messages, social media, mail, music, & podcasts) and after reading comments on other threads, it seems like I shouldn't have any issues getting through the day, so I decided to give it a shot.

The phone was just delivered a few hours ago and all I can say is WOW!! This size combined with the form factor are absolutely perfect. Easily the most comfortable phone to handle since the 5s, which always felt a little too small. I see no difference in screen quality and there is zero sacrifice in the UI. I will obviously need to reserve judgement on battery life after a day or 2 of indexing and a week or so of real world usage, but my initial reaction of the look, feel, and function is very impressed.

You nailed it with "it's what an iPhone should feel like to me". That's my same initial impression.

Just got a replacement for the 12 Mini stolen off of a UPS truck and my wife is happy. The iPhone 12 pro Hw originally had is now on its way back to Apple. I will keep my 12 Pro, but I have to say the mini size really feels perfect in hand and the weight is a lot less.

I’m in the same boat as you. Perhaps I just haven’t delved deep enough but there isn’t really much that is unfamiliar. Having totally skipped force touch maybe helps a bit.

Other than face id the things that probably stood out to me the most were the ability to use the back tap feature and that the camera has a wide-angle mode. There’s a couple of smaller things like spatial audio and the one-handed keyboard (admittedly not necessary with the SE), but really it’s all very familiar, especially thanks to the SE supporting iOS 14.

this is not mini at all!

That is my exact feeling after two weeks with it.

Today I was in an Apple store and had a good long look at all of the other iPhone models in one session rather than one here, another there, because I had to wait two hours for a battery replacement for my stepdad's phone. The experience underlined with a thick Sharpie my choice of the mini.

This is lots of screen, lots of comfort, lots of performance and features and the next bigger models are just too much to carry around. (I hate the feel of the glossy sides of the Pros by the way and a case on top of that? No way)

The only other contender for me is the SE 2nd generation. I really kinda liked it (and I love the red on that model), but with my usage and my situation I should have the next one up, meaning in price and modern design. The battery life is less than the 12 mini's, so that's that until 2024-25....

Having set up and used the 12 Mini for family members, it's too big for me sadly. I was thinking it was going to be closer in size to the SE1 than the SE2, but its definitely closer to the SE2.

There are many places where the font is simply miniscule. I would never buy a book printed in such a font and I doubt those who say it's fine would either. A normal reading font should be around 10-12pts - I would say on the mini it is around 7pts. I can read it, but it's not comfortable. It's why watchmakers use a monocle.
I set my font to the smallest size so I can see more on the screen at a time, so I’m going to have to disagree with you.

Wish they could do say a 4.7 inch inside the chassis of the SE1.
I think that would have been a fun form factor to make an edge to edge SE1...they could call it the Micro! I do think for most people wanting a smaller phone (myself included) the Mini is the perfect goldilocks size, not too big and not too small. Kudos to Apple!

It’s actually bang in the middle, and really is only a touch larger than the original SE. It’s the larger screen that gives the impression it’s much bigger than it is.

Seeing that chart again makes me glad I got rid of my SE 2020. I don’t miss the larger size or the added weight, especially when I had a Apple leather case or at the end, I was using the Apple Smart battery case.

The mini makes such a difference in the hand and pocket.
The SE2020 was bigger than my 12 mini but the battery life was noticeably inferior. Both could get me through a day, though, so my increased satisfaction with the mini includes a better camera system, (especially for videos) and a more compact form. I do miss having Touch ID out where I need to wear a mask. But it’s not a major drawback going back to putting my pass code in.

I’m loving the green color. I can’t stop admiring it. My mini is my “daily driver” and has my main phone number. It’s been fantastic!

It’s your new mini me :D I do like the green color. If I end up getting a second mini, it will be green.

Even though I am a light phone user, I find myself looking for excuses to grab my miini out of the new Apple sleeve and mess around with it. Yanno us men like to tinker. Lol

That's fine. As long as you would buy a book in a tiny font size it makes sense. You choose a small font. I have no argument with that.
I’m not trying to carry a book around in my pocket every day, and I don’t need to use a book one-handed and reach across the pages with my thumb, so that’s an irrelevant comparison.

I also don’t sit down on the couch and watch movies on a 5” TV.

You see it depends on how we each use a phone. Everyone's different. I tend not to use a phone one-handed, however I bought the mini because I like smaller phones. I'd never buy anything larger than the 12. The problem for me is the way Apple just miniaturised the standard iOS UI to make it fit the smaller screen of the mini. When I look at the way other platforms do it I think Apple got it wrong. The mini doesn't have to look exactly the same as the 12 in miniature. So much could have been done to make the experience more comfortable for the average user. I said earlier in this thread, I turn on my Lumia Windows phones and the experience is hugely better - the actual displays are smaller yet there is nothing tiny about the UI, the fonts or the icons. The fonts are not the ultra-thin ones iOS uses for starters.

Exactly, everyone’s different. And I was simply saying I disagree with you about the size. I don’t want everything bigger. I like the way everything is currently displayed on the 12 mini. You think Apple got it wrong and I think they got it right.
