I`m still a year or so off from an upgrade to a new major phone and still not sure yet. I have gotten used to the control I have with Android and still want a battery I can replace along with a micro sd card (not just because it is cheaper storage) I know a lot of the flag ship Android phones are doing away with that as well.

Flash is also easier to get working on Android (yes, I still require it for a couple of tasks)

Plus Apple is a little slow to add some features, have to see what next year holds.

Honestly...it looks like I will be moving back to the iPhone once it arrives. Some work related software was just announced, and it is for iOS only at this point.

How is that for an easy reason out of a tough decision (note 5 vs iphone 6s plus)?

Time, because it rules EVERYTHING!
A lot of people think the iPhone will have the better camera. This is likely, but maybe not as likely, or the gap won't be so great this time around.

I know everyone got hyped by the demo pics, but looks at what the Galaxy series can do when put in the hands of a capable photographer (same camera across the s6, s6 edge, note 5, s6 edge plus).

http://global.samsungtomorrow.com/peter-lik-meets-the-galaxy-s6-edge/

Talking about cameras, I think that this year has seen the best yet come out! I mean all the talk was about compact cameras being made obsolete, now they are talking about DSLR ones!! I don't ever expect a camera on a phone to match those when you are talking new, but to be talking about it at all is quite something.

I was not planning on upgrading my Plus and I know the sample size is small but there are enough concerns about ios9 on that forum to probably make me upgrade or sell it and just keep the Note 5.

Why do you have to give up your note 5 just because of work especially as you are the single biggest fan of it? Many people have a work device and personal device.

Im surprised you would even contemplate this change given your previous posts.

I'm not its biggest fan. I am a fan of it, and never said I don't think it's a great device. I also stated I had preordered the iPhone. The note 5 is a great device, and deserves to be in the same conversation as the iPhone. It's easy to defend a phone that is constantly being bashed in an apple centric forum.

I am molecular biologist. The apps I speak of allow me to interface with some of the research equipment here. It's a huge plus.

My work doesn't supply me with a phone, and I am not going to pay for two. I'll really miss the spen, and some parts of Android.

I could always changed my mind, I have time to decide. It's my choice.

Sometimes practicalities of the device are more important than anything else. It sounds like the iPhone would fit best into your daily pattern and for work - that's not a bad thing - it's an informed choice based on the practicalities of your life / routine / usage pattern.

Exactly. You put it into better words than I did.

Will knows, maybe I'll change my mind when i get my hands on the new iPhone.

But based on the above, that is the likely outcome. Despite that, I would be the first to recommend the note 5. One doesn't have to hate or actively critize another device, just because they chose a different one. Unfortunately, that is the trend here at times.

The only unfortunately aspect of this is that you can't use your device is choice, regardless what it is. I know I'd be kind of bummed. Here's hoping you find the iPhone to provide a good enough user experience where you don't miss the Note too much.

Yep. It is a bit of a bummer to be honest, but it is what it is. The interface between the equipment and iPhone has the potential to save me a lot of time, freeing me up to enjoy the more important things in life. I'm sure I'll enjoy the iPhone. They both will have their advantages as disadvantages. I'll be sure to post an in depth comparison in the future.

But put it this way, you'll be able to sell the Note 5 for a reasonable return, for an Android device, and buy a brand new model of iPhone with a new iOS version.

Also an interesting career you have there. Pretty fascinating all that sort of thing.

Something I'm surprised hasn't been mentioned much is attachments in emails. It's finally here using iCloud Drive.

Nice.

Is iCloud near as robust as the alternatives like one drive, google drive, etc?
Other than being exclusive to Apple devices, it's about on par as google drive, I still prefer Dropbox though. Not sure if they have a browser version available.

I just checked my email (cloud magic) and I have some attachment options also. View attachment 582309

Yeah, I use Outlook and I can attach from box, Google Drive, Dropbox, or OneDrive--basically all the big hitter EXCEPT iCloud. I still only use iCloud for device backups, iCloud Photos, and iWork docs (though I could use OneDrive here as well). As mentioned, it just doesn't offer cross platform compatibility or even work with some third party apps on iDevices (devs must enable it) so I generally rely on Google Drive at this point. I probably should take a closer look at OneDrive though since as an Office365 subscriber, I get 1TB of storage. I just know I can rely on Google Drive to be available nearly everywhere and I also use Google Photos to backup my photo library.

Apple really needs to allow that same access in Mail.app to third party devs--then the 'access to a file system' argument becomes a bit less relevant on iOS. Until then, even this heavy Apple user won't rely that heavily on iCloud.

Really, what apple needs to do is buy Dropbox or copy them, and automatically make all files in your library available through iCloud while syncing it to your mac.

Making iCloud cross platform compatible would increase its utility a thousand-fold. Nobody is going to abandon Apple hardware because they can now access iCloud on other devices--iCloud isn't that good. ;) It would however make it far more useful. All they're doing now is encouraging people to use third party solutions. Look at me, pretty well entrenched with Apple yet even I don't rely that heavily on it.

un friggen believable. did apple finally listen? I havent checked lately, does icloud.com allow access to icloud drive via a pc?

looks like the main thing i will lose moving back to iphone is the ability to respond to texts and notification mirroring on PC
