I've enjoyed using smart wearables, to varying degrees, since I started with the original Pebble. I also really like my Apple Watch but didn't realize how much I use it until I didn't wear it for a few days. Now I feel sort of naked without it.
I can understand that. I have a huge passion for watches and enjoy wearing quite a few in rotation. A smart watch couldn't fit into that rotation because it's not just a watch, but something that has functionality that demands to be worn daily and act as an extension of your smart phone. However, I am happy with the smart phone I have and the enjoyment I get from my Japanese and Swiss mechanicals.

I just don't think I would get the same enjoyment, even if I would no doubt enjoy some if the features. I am busy saving for my next watch and it doesn't show text messages or emails lol. :)

Few questions. Does it have GPS? Does it have Wi-Fi? How's the battery life? Is 38mm vs 44mm a huge difference? Is responding to messages intuitive? How does it compare to Android Wear?

I've used both, though admittedly only used Android Wear on and off over a couple weeks, so I'll offer my measly $0.02.

No GPS, relies on the phone if that's needed though it a fair enough job tracking on it's own (walks, etc) after being used a few times while still tethered to an iPhone. Clearly not a replacement for full functioning GPS though.

I find battery life more than adequate. I've never had less than 20% remaining and that was after a full day's use, including a 5 mile hike tracked using the workout apps (I believe, might've been run keeper, can't recall) and was 4 AM when it went back on the charger. It's usually around 40-50% when I call it a day sometime around midnight, give or take. I honestly don't care about multi day battery life at this point because charging it is just part of my daily routine of plugging everything in before going to sleep. The biggest annoyance i had with both my Pebble, FitBit, and Microsoft Band was that I'd forget to plug it in after a couple days and then ultimately would end up with a dead device on my wrist. Solution to that problem? Just plug it in every night.

I find responding to Messages quit simple. You can use any number of methods (voice recording, voice dictation, canned responses, or even expressive emoji or little sketch--only other AW users for this one) but I find either a quick voice dictation the simplest. Heck, just using Siri is actually the simplest method.

As far as comparing it to Android Wear--they are similar in most ways. It really comes down to how you intend to use it and what you're preferred OS is. I personally like how the Apple Watch handles notifications better, I use Apple Pay probably more than most and it's a snap with the watch, love how my Apple Wallet cards just pop up when needed (use Starbucks and AMC quite a bit ;)), and I actually take more than my share of calls using the watch---very handy when I'm working around the house and my phone is in another room. I also like how navigation using Apple Maps (yes, I actually do use it) is communicated through the watch as well using vibrations--was great while i was in NYC this past weekend (do wish Google Maps offered the same functionality on the Apple Watch). And believe it or not, I found getting music onto my Apple Watch to be easier than doing the same on Android Wear.

Again, my preference tends to lean towards the Apple Watch but as mentioned, my phone OS preference tends to lean that way as well. Overall, i found Android Wear to be quite similar and if I was using and Android Phone, I'd probably enjoy it just as much.

Yeah, those benchmark numbers are nuts. I wonder if Apple is using the new flash drives that samsung started using in the s6, combine that with the a9 and how optimized iOS is and this phone should be insanely fast. Maybe this means multi window will be coming to the plus too? It can surely handle it.

If it's not coming on the plus by default the jailbreak community will definitely do it. They'll prolly bring it to the regular too for that matter. Can't wait to see what they come up with.

Those numbers along with 2gb ram, the 6s will last quite some time.

Smart watches certainly aren't for everybody. It's how you use your phone I guess.

I get a huge amount of notifications so it's big for me and from a fitness standpoint. The size of the Apple Watch is perfect and looks so nice on my wrist. Can't wait to use it in a daily basics. Thought I would need it with a large phone.

This is terrible! I was waiting loooooong to get 6s and then what a frustration! It has no ois! Now im trying to convince myself that 6s+ is not so big.. It is the same size as my phone now - but it is big :/ At first i was thinking that it is a phone, so it is not so big deal that it has no ois after all but been watching some vids taken by 6s and 6s+ and no way im going to buy it without ois. Or any other phone nowadays. I wanted to get a smaller phone, waited 6s, but it seems to be that i have to buy plus... Or... Ehmm... Aaargh!

I think OIS is rather overrated on the iPhone. I've never had difficulty with getting good quality results without it on the iPhone 6 even if that has digital stabilisation. There's not a massive amount of difference IMO.

yeah......see your point. Don't see a reason to add a feature to one phone but not the other model. Makes no sense to me.

By that token, shouldn't a 1080p display be on the 6S? What about the other sideways multi tasking options too? They have to be able to sell different devices. Forcing people to spend $100 or $200 more is good for Apple.

But the screen and multi tasking options are better suited for the larger model. The OIS feature would not take up any extra space and is not dependent on the size of the phone.

Apple is notorious for dragging their *** when upgrading much of their hardware (display resolution, screen size, camera) so I honestly won't be surprised if we see the same display resolutions in the iPhone 7. However, I also won't be shocked if they bump up the resolution on both sizes of the iPhone 7 since they are already downsampling from 3X to 1080 on the 6+/6s+. Just bump up the smaller model to 1080 and the Plus model to native 3x (1224 x 2208, I believe).

No contest.

Anyone trying to pass off the non-OIS phones as being fine haven't really done their homework.

If it wasn't that big a difference, why would Apple bother with at all?

That does show the difference well, thanks for sharing. I don't think it makes much of a difference to me personally though, but if it's a deal breaker then fair enough. It certainly wouldn't put me off buying the next iPhone if they leave it off the normal model. The bigger iPhone needs something to compensate for its size I suppose. lol

Agreed.....OIS makes a difference. It pretty obvious to all who can see.

Grrr, I was actually coming around to the regular 6s, but now I'm thinking 6s plus again. I guess I'll let fate decide and see what's available tomorrow when I get there.

Somebody once posted that ois on the 6 Plus was only in camera mode, when shooting video it was still just a software solution. I have no idea if this is true.

Just had a play with the Rose Gold 6S.

Very nice, must say. Obviously looks the same but just using it for 5 minutes, you can tell it's improved in pretty much every way.

3D Touch is great, once more apps can access it, I think it will become revolutionary.

Very good 'S' upgrade, methinks.

And it's decided, regular 6S it is! They were out of the 6s plus in black.

Just seen a drop test on YouTube and wow the plus barely made a crack where last year the screen smashed to pieces.

Initial impressions:

- Notably weightier. It feels very solid.
- 3D Touch is super simple, super useful and will only get better.
- Force pressing to initiate app switcher doesn't work so well with tempered glass screen protectors.
- Live Photos I'm not sure about. Off for now.
- Camera is lightning quick.
- Safari reloads are way better. Ten tabs and no reloads which is enough for me.
