Time, because it rules EVERYTHING!
I DO know that the iPhone will not automatically backup my photos to Microsoft One Drive, I have to physically open the app for it to do so. On Android because it supports those background tasks it's all automatic.

Out of interest does iPhoto automatically sync in the background?

Yeah it does I believe. Though I use Google Photos personally for backup

Google photos suffers the same limitations as other third party solutions on ios right?

Is just plugging the device in power and opening the app enough? Or do you have to disable screen time out to keep the screen on to?

Last time I did a manual bulk upload to Flickr on ios I disabled screen timeout and plugged into power which I admit is quite lame . Ios keeps WiFi on if power is plugged in so I'm curious if that is enough. I haven't tested automatic backup on any app.

I have been opening the One Drive app and then selecting my photos on the camera roll then it seems to upload them, doesn't matter then if the screen is on or off.

Do you know if it is using mobile data as well or just WiFi? I'm pretty sure ios automatically turns off WiFi after a set amount to of sleep time if not plugged in to power. I would hope to find out that has changed. It could be that your photos finish uploading within that time frame before WiFi autosleeps

Yep. Same for Google Photos.

WiFi only, I turned off that option that Apple turned on by default that was using your mobile data without warning!

Waiting for iPhone 7.

6S isn't enough of an upgrade.

I was thinking the same thing.
I've upgraded yearly since the launch back in 07, but I was gonna sit this one out.
At a recent trip to the US I did get one though, on an impulse really.
Not regretting it, this upgrade was very well worth it to me.
It is refreshing to have a phone that feels like it breaths easily when performing various tasks.
The 6+ felt very sluggish in comparison.
And the force touch thingy is quite nice.
That and the ultra fast fingerprint scan made it worth it to me.

I had the same problem. Was very frustrated and went back over my settings and there was some setting, can't remember what it was that finally enabled it.

Yeah I found it, I was being stupid but it does mean that the GPS is permanently on! So I've turned off the background sync.
I think I will switch to iCloud (cannot believe I said that!) Because it seems that One Drive reduces the photo quality when its uploaded hmm

I got my calenders syncing too yippee!! Had to buy an app for my tablet and it now syncs appointments and reminders so all is good there.

So I am actually going to keep the iPhone and see how I get on now that I am getting my issues sorted out.

Reduces photo quality??? Are you sure about that? I used onedrive with my note 4 and 6s+ and never noticed this. I'm going to be very bummed and pissed if all my photos were degraded by onedrive!!!!

Well the photos look a bit lower quality then on the iPhone photo app, so I Google's it and saw some people saying it does reduce the resolution.

Their is an interesting thread from June this year on the One Drive support website here:

I am going to check it later, see the resolution on iPhoto and One Drive backups.

I had saved up money for my next upgrade, and I could almost afford it. I went for it being 50 bucks short. I do not regret it. I came from the 5s, which I still use every weekend and as a second camera for timelapses etc. And I love the iPhone 6s Plus that I upgraded too. Seriously, no regrets.

I looked at that but it seems you get a very few GB for free, then it's based on you getting extra GB in return for recommendations of people to use their services. And then you can one price for their business package and that's it.

Ever considered your own cloud? I set up a Synology NAS and never looked back.
