No reason to downgrade my old 2012 Note II which is a better iPhone 6s Plus with iPad Pro features that doesn't require a $99 pencil.

Got a 64GB Rose Gold 6s for the wife. Ordered this morning around 10am through the T-Mo jump on demand upgrade and they said we get priority shipping with it being shipped out on the 18th for overnight delivery (we'll see).

I'm keeping my S6 Edge till the end of the month - very intrigued about the Xperia Z5, but I've heard nothing about it coming Stateside (or T-Mo since it'll be through jump). If the Z5 doesn't happen, then I'm thinking the Note 5 or the new Nexus, but I'm not sold on TouchWiz - my S6e with 3GB RAM still has RAM issues with app reloading but I'm hoping the extra gig on the Note 5 will help. Overall, its just not as smooth as I'd like on the S6e.

The nexus 5 was/still is my fav phone ever so maybe that but the Note 5 is just so darn pretty.

Edit: spelling

The Note II is one of the best older Android phones still. Especially if running a custom ROM that old Note 2 will feel fresh and new still.

Compare that to the iPhone of 2012, which one is that the iPhone 4S / iPhone 5. LOL the Note 2 blows both those out of the water. How do those old phones run iOS 9 ? Where the ROM'd Note 2 can run Android 5.1.1 easily.

iPhone 5 was 2012. I believe. I still own it, since I use it to test out my apps.
And on iOS9 it's still buttery smooth, just like the day it was released. I also owned Note 2. Excellent battery, but nothing more. In my use scenario at least. Cheap plastic, laggy interface.

Of course, you can root and install custom roms. But officially, Note 2 was abandoned long time ago, while iPhone 5 is still supported. So I really wouldn't agree that Note 2 blows iPhone 5 away. IMHO, it's the other way around.

To me Android is all about XDA Development, and one of the biggest reasons to go Android. You can have an old phone like the Note 2, and with flashing a brand new fresh ROM based off the latest Android release will turn that old laggy phone into something smooth and fast again.

I could never own an Android and just use it the way it came out of the box, that would be pointless and just suck. These phones are meant to be tweaked and get the extra bit of goodness out of them with extra Development and ROM's IMO.

Like my current Note 5, I would not own this today if I could only use it the way it shipped stock out of the box. Yuck, no way.

But by Rooting and ROM'ing I have turned this thing into a beast. Giving me 6.5h Screen On time, and much smoother and faster than stock. And also changed the look and style of it to be more Nexus like.

Anyways, that's my 2 cents.

From what I read the Note 5 has the same reload issues as the S6. It seems that Samsung is following a new strategy with these phones. To make UI smooth, they immediately force close the apps once they go into the background. TW is just too heavy of a UI. Even 4 gigs do not seem to be enough.

It doesn't. Users on here and tech sites say it isn't noticeable and present in normal usage.

Time, because it rules EVERYTHING!
I sprung for 128GB Space Grey 6s Plus. And most looking forward to seeing if 3D Touch actually lives up to the hype. Also really interested in the new and improved cameras.

I like Apple's white colour. I think the Force Touch integration is pretty interesting, gives iOS a bit of a refresh.
Will also be interesting to see the camera compared go others.

This test shows that the Note 5 reloads apps from background. The Note 5 flew through the first round and slowed down in the second allowing the G4 to almost beat it.

I am aware of that video.

Read the reviews, read the note 5 subthread.

It's a nonexistent issue in legitimate use. Do you make the habbit of launching 12 apps and gsmes, one after another, and closing them only to reopen them? Probably not, nor does the rest of the world. The note 5 doesn't constantly close or refresh websites or apps like Tapatalk, which the 6 plus did and was an annoyance.

Yes Samsung is too agressive with ram management, but the extra gig if ram elivatea the issues that some experienced in the s6. What will affect the user is how fast the note 5 opens apps, from a cold start or whatever. This is due to the processor and ufs storage, which is noticeable in normal use.

I went from the s6 to the LG g4, to the 6 plus again, to the note 5. The Samsung devices were noticeably faster, even though the other devices were fast enough.

Don't get me wrong. I oreordered the six plus and will get it a try. I'll either keep it or the note 5, depending on which is best. For my ususge, i think that the note 5 will prevail...but we will see.

Indeed. I use custom roms as well. But you are forgeting two really important things to mention:

1) U make it sound like custom roms work like a charm. They don't. If you use them u should know. Lots of drivers aren't even 10% good as on stock rom. And no custom rom+kernel can work faster then aosp on nexus. Try installing CM12 on S5 for example. Let me know how the camera compares to stock TW rom.

2) Less then 0.1% of people use custom roms. Nor should they. I mean, if you buy a expensive phone (Note 5 for example), one would expect it to work out of the box. So people who aren't tech savvy don't use custom roms. Even people who are tech savvy refuse to use custom roms. For warranty issues, or simply they don't want to waste their time on things like those.

P.S.
Btw, iPhone 5 on iOS9 works far better then S5 for example. Note II is a forgotten relict, and there is simply not way it can even compare to the iP5. Maybe iP4s, but I'm not so sure about that either.

P.P.S.
Just to make it clear, I use android phones as my daily driver. Waited for 6S to switch back to Apple, but for my own reasons I have abandoned that plan.

Not to pry.

Why are you not switching back to Apple? I am leaning towards Android for the year, but would enjoy hearing your point of view.

A matter of principle. 16GB starting storage is the main thing. I would buy 64GB anyway, but as I said - principle.
Another thing is that they raised the prices in my country coz of $trenght. But they failed to lower the prices a 2-3 years ago while $ was pretty weak.

I can afford it, it's not a matter of money. Just don't like when someone treats me like a second class citizen.

Totally understand. I would have passed on it as well if it wasn't for the T-Mobile special pricing.

16GB is ridiculous - I understand why they offer it (and as a business owner I would do the same if it didn't effect sales). But as a consumer its obnoxious - go figure, haha.

This test shows that the Note 5 reloads apps from background. The Note 5 flew through the first round and slowed down in the second allowing the G4 to almost beat it.

Just for your info - I'm the original source/creator of this 'aggressive ram' issue. It was my thread on XDA that was picked up by the media. I coined 'aggressive ram'.

Indeed it only got its name after the title/wording of my thread on XDA began being used by the journalists / media who picked up on rhe thread and then readers / forum posters subsequently began referring to it as such. I pretty much coined that term before it entered popular zeitgeist.

With that in mind I think that qualifies me to answer this and I'll answer it honestly.

The S6 Edge & S6 do have poor memory management and will indeed refresh apps far too often. Much more often than even my iPhone 6 Plus does in daily use.

I approached the Note 5 with trepidation because of this. Indeed I dare say there were a number of Samsung fantatics here on this forum who were probably dreading it when I posted that I had ordered a Note 5.

Whilst it certainly is still aggressive in killing apps compared to the likes of the Nexus 6 the Note 5 can and does handle at least 6-9 apps in memory before it begins refreshing that content. Yes It is more aggressive when it's advanced 3d games and you won't get as many open.

However for the most part the 1gb extra ram has alleviated the persistent ram issue enough that it isn't any where near as irksome in every day use and will mostly go unnoticed unless actively looking for it.

I just bought the S6 Edge Plus today and it's night and day the difference in my every day use compared to my S6 Edge in regards to refreshing / reloading.

Yes Samsung need to address their aggressive ram management, but at least with the extra 1gb in the Note 5 & S6 Edge plus = in most day to day regular use it won't be such a concern as it was on the S6/S6 Edge. It no longer is the plague that it once was.

I love how the black bezel and display near seamlessly blend together, gives the iPhone a monolithic slab like appearance. Been rocking a black leather case on my 6+ and will likely do the same on the 6s+. I personally just love the all black look--wish the space gray was actually darker.

Yeah, I really wish Samsung would adopt the same type of color scheme, a pitch black note 5 and black chrome around the home button and speaker grill would look totally bad ass.

That really is a great look, especially with the black leather case. Jut screams awesome.

Not many Android phones do that look, very few, like OnePlus, some Nexus phones, and Motorola phones too, but the speaker slats kind of rune the look.

Samsung could make their Note 5 just as bad ass, if they got rid of the logo at the top, or least made it a dark black chrome color, and ditch the chrome ring around the button too.

Yup...if the Note 5 was a true dark black, I very likely would've broken down and bought one. I don't like the TW user experience but the Note 5 is a really beautiful phone...love the use of curves on the back vs. the nonsense of doing so on the display.

Yeah, I can get so close with the Motomaker for the X Pure (and black leather right in the phone :D) but the darkest accent color is still gray and like you said, its use for the speakers takes away from the look. Still a very good looking phone.

Black and white are boring. Glad they offer new unique colors. Platinum gold is very nice on the S6 but the bluish black sapphire is a stunner on Note 5.
