I am happy with my new 24" 3.06GHz which I bought last Friday night. I switched from Windows. I am still learning everyday but the more I use the machine the better I like it. My wife uses a PC but tonight she worked on Quicken (Mac Version) on the new computer and she did just fine.

My son enjoys Grageband and we have installed Final Cut which he uses at school.

I am going to buy a Wireless mouse just not sure I want the Apple one or perhaps a Logictech.

My 24" Mac is now 1 week old and I bought the Logitech S510 keyboard and mouse for it a few days ago. Couldn't be happier. Much easier to type as the keys are closer together and the mouse works 1000x better than the Apple one.

Loving mine.

I'll get a 24" next time and this can be 'relegated' to the kitchen.

I honestly cannot believe that this thread is still alive.

What are you guys now complaining about now. Is it how the iMac smells like aluminum and how Apple should have mentioned this before you bought your iMac?

lovin it

Had mine 10 days, loving it. Upgraded from 1GHz eMac, used to take 12+ hours to encode DVD for my iPod touch, now takes 20 minutes! :D

Love mine.

Bought white mac last year. Loved it. Then gave it to wife. (she loves it too)

Then bought aluminum 20" 2.4ghz.........absoulutely the best computer I've ever owned. I've had many different kinds over the years.

Wish I had a 24" 3ghz.........maybe in the future:D

fan goes on

Hi ;
I have an Intel 24" Imac.

At times on the initial boot in the morning when
I power up, the fan starts up at what seems like high speed?

It is the only time I have ever heard the fan operate.
The computer is cold as it has been sitting overnight.

To correct- I have been told to unplug the unit and hold the
power on switch for ten seconds. Then plug the unit back in
and turn the computer on and then hold control/ command/ and
the R and P keys all down until unit boots.
They said it resets the processor?

It solves the problem for now.
What is the cause of the fan coming on like this as it has happened
4 or 5 times in the last couple of weeks.

A little education would be appreciated.

Bill

Who is really satisfied of purchasing Aluminum iMac in spite of any issues?

100% satisfied. I can honestly say I don't really have a single complaint. I mean, sure, the included mouse is lame, but I NEVER expect to actually use the keyboard or mouse included with any desktop purchase (they are always lame). At least the Apple one doesn't feel cheap. I'm actually content to use the Apple keyboard, though I want a natural keyboard (one that is divided into two).

I LOVE the aluminum look, much, much, much better than the old plasticky white. I hated that white, to be honest. I'm glad Apple is finally getting over the everything being white stage.

Edit: One thing that bothers me is the USB Port on the keyboard. It is far to much recessed to be of use to easily connect USB Sticks, etc.
How do you work around this? A 10cm USB extension cord could be helpful. Other ideas?

Practice. I'm able to connect devices without even looking now. If your device is too fat, you simply need an extension cord, or get a smaller USB drive.

What???

You actually want a better mouse than an iMouse??

And as for the keyboard, you would prefer the split ergonomic one??

I have one, on my old P3, and hitting the keys on it is like creating the Rosetta Stone.

I'm using the Logitech MX Air and it's very good. Takes a little getting used to, but the motion sensors are great when you want to use it is a remote :)

I'm satisfied with mine. I've only had one problem when my Mac would not boot up but that was my fault, I deleted some files that I didn't think I needed in my finder and broke it.

week 20 productions don't have screen issues? man, i wish i had waited... is it from china or somewhere else?

Its a VM so from the Foxconn plant in Czech republic.....2 units from this week are spot on so I dont think its a fluke.....the backlighting is completely even and no gradient.....really glad my mate went against my advice and got one or I would never have known they were sorted.

First of all I want to congratulate you on getting a keeper. :D

I did want to point out the obvious fact that the manufacturing plant is just where the parts get assembled and not where the panels are made.

I only point this out because I got a keeper panel myself on the second replacement of my mid-2007 24" iMac's LCD. My machine was one of the first production units assembled in Shanghai, China in August, 2007. I had the LCD replaced twice for hardware problems. The first two panels had minor gradients but this latest one sounds like your description of yours.

It may just be a new batch of panels from Philips. I don't think the assembly plant plays much part.

The reason I point out the week number and plant is for that reason......so people can ask for that plant and week as 2 units thousands apart are good. I know the panels are manufactured (prob in China) by LG Phillips. As they use up duff panels and move on to ones that may have been modified then maybe everyone will eventually get a good screen. I wondered if the way they mounted the screen had change also, thus illiminating the bleed. The last 24" I had before this unit was very poor so in frustration i suckered off the glass to see if this reduced the issue (as someone had mentioned) but it was exactly the same. I also tried loosening the star screws at the base of the screen behing the glass to see if pinching was causing the problem.....this also had no effect. So my thinking is the pannel assembly has been revised for easy assembly without bleed and the backlight reflector/strips also may have been modified as the screen really does look completely different.

what do you mean the screen looks completely different? do you mean it looks different because it's finally a good screen?

im talking with you in 2 different threads, ha...

2 threads eh?! People will talk!

when set to a black screen there is now a slight texture almost like carbon fiber but not woven. The backlight is even all over the screen (black is still like a dark grey as this is LCD we are talking about) and there is nil gradient regardless of brightness setting. So yeah it looks consistent and different to the others as does my mates.

Apart from lock/freezing problems that were sorted out last year by Apple via the update, it's one super machine. 100% satisfied and I will never return to windows unless I am forced too.

I love the fact that it looks amazing and that's before you even turn it on. when you do turn it on it starts up quickly and is a breeze to use due to the large display. Quiet too. Wonderful in every way.

For a mouse, you gotta go trackball for the best accuracy and best treatment to your wrist.

As for the keyborad, I've had one before and loved it. :D

I never liked trackballs much.

Not to hijack the thread (I'm loving my 24" aluminum iMac too at 9 months and counting) but I can't imagine using anything other than my Logitech MX Revolution. It fits my hand like a glove, I use every one of it's buttons and I've come to rely on the freescrolling wheel.

With the Steermouse drivers it is the best input device I've ever used. ;)

I've preferred CRTs to LCDs for the longest time, but since purchasing my first laptop, it seems the online community always gets their bees in a bonnet about uneven lighting/backlight leaking, etc. I thought I was anal about my gear, but wow. I swear I wouldn't even have noticed or given it a second thought if I didn't read the flames online!
