I respect your post. Im an Android user and I prefer it for its strengths just like some people prefer iPhones for their strengths.

Nothing wrong with Pure android at all, but some people prefer skinned phones that add more features a bit like a custom ROM. The biggest issue with Pure android atm is the Pixel hardware is not that great.

But the Pixel hardware isn't bad though. It's just QC issues that hold it back. I had the Pixel OG and it had good hardware. Only problem was the battery the refurb device had was awful and the seller offered a refund to me.

Right. Lol.

I'll just leave this here. MKBHD, one of the biggest Android guys it there.

Who says Google won't have a 6gb RAM version though? I cannot trust OnePlus because they had a bootloader issue day 1 with the OP6 and are from a somewhat sketchy background.

I am excited about potential Android One devices since you can get 6gb RAM from the Nokia devices on the market possibly. I am also intrigued with the Blackberry Key Two as well, even though it's not 100% stock. It doesn't mean I will get the Blackberry.

It seems like I will get the iPhone X 2017 on clearance or the iPhone 6.1" model day 1.

I’m sure you will be happy with whichever device you decide to finally land on.

Just got my email from the Samsung Insight Program for 50% off a 128gb Note 9. Still deciding if I want to do it as I will have to give up my daily driver my iPhone X for 12 months. Decisions decisions.

Why would you have to give up your iPhone?

Perhaps port your # to Google Voice then put the SIM in the Note 9 and WIFI tether on the iPhone. That way you can call/SMS/MMS with Hangouts/Dialer with the same # on both phones.

I am almost certainly getting an iPhone 2018. Just gotta see if the 6.1” or X the are obtainable. If not, I have to scout the Android market. Rather stick to iOS since it works better for me.

Portrait mode on the Note 9 SUCKS (just like on the Pixel did). Thay just can't figure out the background blur thing.

Wish was you I would trade in my iPhone 8 Plus quick ....

I have the Note 9. I like it. I think. I came from the iPhone 7. The amount of choice with everything stresses me the **** out. And there are so many phones to compare too that you never really feel assured in your buying decision.

And I miss the privacy of Apple. I could use their services and not worry as much about my privacy.

Overall thoughts in the form of unorganized spew:

But the hardware is phenomenal. Speakers are great, screen is amazing (except for the curve), phone is speedy and not slow, the mics do a really good job with video recording, having a file system is cool. changing default apps is cool. the pen is actually awesome and I love it. The 3.5mm is overrated - sure it's nice, but going straight out to USB is better quality. I haven't used my Airpods and don't really miss them (granted I was having issues with mine). Bixby doesn't work like at all. I miss the volume ringer switch. Always on display means I'm constantly looking at my screen on my desk. Raise to wake is a great feature on iOS and it's not here for some reason. Apps are okay, but Spotify still sucks on Android. Split screen is cool for youtubing while redditing. Apollo is hands down the best reddit app for any platform period. The camera is really nice, but I have some concerns about some glare issues. Battery is great, but I'm not getting more than a day (that's OK). Samsung pay is awesome, but it's app could use some work. There needs to be a better way of summoning the app (Hey samsung, that hardware button would work great...). Having a fingerprint reader, face unlock and iris scanner I use the fingerprint more. It just makes more sense as my finger is on the phone when I grab it.

I'm kind of itching to see what Apple releases with the new iPhone, and can't wait to see what Apple does with iOS 13.

/end spew of unorganized thoughts.

Apple is dead when it comes to new features. Not excited one bit for the new iPhones. EverythingApplePro just stated they might get rid of 3d touch completely with next all year's iPhones. This has got to be a damn joke. One of the main features I like with Apple.

I agree with the Note 9 post. Definitely a great feel, look and screen. Spen is sweet. It really puts the iPhone to shame IMHO. I prefer iOS but Apple is pushing out some folks with their thinking by getting rid of features. Note is fast!

Exact same boat except I plan to keep my X and use this opportunity to test the Android waters with little overall out of pocket. Need to find a smartwatch.

That was how I felt (when I first had the Note 8 after using the iPhone 7 plus) for a bit when I was still customizing everything to my liking. However after a few months, everything settles in and you beginning to feel the phone is just personalized to how you like it. Now, I did miss iMessage...everything else, there are many workaround / alternatives. I think what iPhone users like us uses most is raise to wake gesture and the tap to the top. So, now, I turned off always on and just need to wave my hand really quick over the sensors at the top to wake the phone to see the lock screen.

I think the tap to scroll to the top universally is a good feature but Samsung only have it enabled on its own apps and not on 3rd party apps. Still with the drawbacks of switching away from iOS, I find the interface to be more pleasant because I am not locked to having an app grid and able to add (and design) my own widgets. Also the S-Pen, I use it ALL the time even when I am not drawing. If Apple brings support to the Apple Pencil (which I own) to the plus model phone (hoping for a ipad mini sized phone) then I will consider switching. It's just weird how the Apple Pencil don't work on everything even Apple is about "ecosystem"- having everything that's from Apple being able to talk to each other. I understand Jobs made that comment long ago but still... times are changing. But no, I value my styluses wayyyy too much with my current setup computer / tablet wity stylus and phone with stylus to switch to a none stylus alternative.

Kinda surprised to hear this from this guy. He's always been mostly iOS. I think this video really speaks to the complete package the Note 9 is.

Used my Essential phone for a bit and I'm struggling to get past loving the clean look of stock Android now arghhhhh. I keep telling myself everything the Note offers. I'm sure I'll get used to the skin a lot more in time.

IMO the screen on the Pixel 2 XL isn't great, it also has a very dated design with those big bezels. The front facing speakers don't sound nearly as good as the iPhone x or S9/Note9. Thats just a few things off the top of my head. Then you have the Pixel 3 XL with a notch the size of the titanic, Google just cant get it right imo. Apple are the only ones to pull off the notch design well as they bend the screen back on itself at the bottom of the display giving very small bezels on bottom and sides.

How are you accessing Samsung Pay when making a purchase?

He will probably switch back to apple

I've seen a few of his vids where he has done this. Usually ends up back where he started.

Don't get me wrong I do enjoy his vids but I've noticed some flipping...

Part of the Samsung Insights Program. I had to do it for 6 months when they gave me a free Galaxy S7.
Is it a requisite of the program?

One of the earlier emails stated that you must use the Note as your 'primary device' for 12 months.. which is likely unenforceable.. I believe in one of the follow up emails it stated that you must use it at least once a month for 12 months. And, in the actual pdf user agreement there is nothing about how often you use or don't use the device. I plan to keep my iPhone X and swap the sim back and forth.. this year will be my trial with a Samsung device, and since I can likely sell the Note for what I paid for it next year the expenditure for the trial will be next to zero, unless I buy a fitbit or galaxy watch...

That’s a relief then because I can’t give my iPhone up for a year. I got through the 6 months with the Galaxy S7 and was hoping the Note 9 had the same guidelines.

How do they know if you’re using it as your primary phone?

Could be as simple as sending IMEI use data back to Samsung servers? I don't there's a precise way to know if it's a main device because everybody's use case is different, but I can see where they would know if you were using the phone consistently.
