Who will be keeping their iPhone 12 series this year?

For me, much will depend on how Apple prices out the new 13 iPhone here in Canada.

With the stronger Cdn currency, it might be cheaper to buy a new 13 than an old 12.
Historically …. Apple has been VERY slow recognizing a stronger Canadian dollar vs the US in their pricing here -
twice before when the Canadian dollar was MORE than the US $ (twice in the last 10yrs) it took a full month. Yet Apple is VERY quick to adjust their CAN $ back when it weakens.

Probably would be better to buy US$ now and hold until release as I’m sure it’ll drop before September
currently $1US = $1.11CAN.

As somebody who only upgraded from my iPhone 11 Pro to the 12 pro because I changed carriers I’m staying with my 12 pro unless they put an absurd battery in the 12 pro like 5,000 mah or something lol. I’m mostly joking on 5,000

Thank you for your concern! Unfortunately not, I work outside with multiple shifting locations every day, and the phone is a part of my work day.
Looking foward to reinvest in a bigger model with bigger battery, but oh sweat Mini form factor, I'll miss you.
And power banks kind of invalidate the beauty of having a small sized smartphone.

Maybe people have different challenges than you have anticipated? Is it that complicated? I choose a phone that didn't suite my use, not so complicated. I got seduced by something small and fit, and now I regret 😅
I understand your thinking a bit. Because I wasn’t sure that mini is the right device for me after few months of using. After all it was but sometimes I do have a second thoughts.

It seems fate is wanting me to upgrade next month lol. I just cracked my iphone 11 pro max screen by accident while at work today. Funny thing is the phone was in my pocket and I reading a document and walking and ran into the corner of a desk. That was apparently enough to crack my screen by the face ID sensor. and long cracks going down the rest of the screen. I do have apple care plus and will get the screen fixed. I just see this as a sign I should upgrade to the 12 S or 13 ha.

Wow. Maybe that is a sign that it’s time for you to upgrade. Are you shooting for the Pro Max or Pro? I for one can’t go smaller than 6.5 and sometimes wish the 12 Pro Max was bigger than 6.7.

Definitely going for the 12 S/13 Pro Max. I would leave the screen cracked on my 11 pro max but it would hurt the trade in or resale value since with the screen being cracked Face ID sensor doesn't work now. But looking on the apple website it looks like I would only have to pay 30 bucks to replace the screen since I have Applecare+.

That’s not bad at all and it’ll keep the resale value high.

Holding until notch-less screens, fair to say that my current phone will have been amortized to the ground.

I’ve purchased a new iPhone every year since the 3GS. Strongly considering staying with my 12 Pro Max this year. Just not seeing any interesting new features so far. Pro Motion isn‘t enough to move the needle for me.

Yea the iphone 14 rumors sound really good as well. Though I heavily leaning on upgrading this year from my 11 pro max just for 5G and 120 HZ refresh screens and touch ID (hopefully). Those three things would have me set for a while in terms of phone upgrades.
I highly doubt we will get touch id this year, there have literally been no rumours for it but we can hope, Apple might surprise us.

Yay! Excited for you to upgrade. Happy you will be joining the train. It will be a worthy upgrade especially coming from iPhone 11 Pro Max.

For you, it’s meant to be ;)

ESR are good. I use one on mine when I go to the gym.
I’ve been using an ESR case since October last year and no yellowing of the plastic frame. The only real criticism is that as the back is tempered glass, it does show fingerprints. I’ve dropped my phone a few times and both case an iPhone have been fine (do have a glass screen protector too).

After what Apple recently announced, is anyone who was going to upgrade, still going to upgrade?
Definitely getting a 13 mini early next year, as it will be the last of its kind, but will keep my 12 mini on the last version of ios 14 in the interim, and then see the feedback from others/articles/reports etc regarding ios 15 and its icloud photo scanning ‘feature’ and then go from there. We are all gonna have to upgrade to ios 15 at some point aren't we?

Yes I guess we will at some point. In the meantime as long as I want to keep my jailbreak, I have to remain on 14.1 until there’s a jailbreak for the last version of iOS 14, if one come out. Also the only way I can update to anything after 14.1, I have to update through iTunes which I won’t be doing. That also means I will still be keeping my 12 Pro Max until next year. I’m looking forward to the keynote, to see what Apple is releasing this year.

I upgraded from a 7+ to a 12 last year. Still love my phone so I plan to keep it.
Hubby upgraded from an XR to a 12 last year and is also happy to stay.

Only reason we might upgrade this year is if the 7+ or XR that we handed down to other family on our plan kicks it. The 7+ could really use a battery upgrade but we are hoping it can hold on until 2022.
