Who will be keeping their iPhone 12 series this year?

I got my 12 pro max 256gb brand new privately for $100AUD less that the 12 256gb retail price, or $70 more than the 12 128gb.

That sounds great, but where I live a discount like that would be rare. It’s £1099 ($2043 AUS) here and the most I’ve paid for a phone is £799 and that’s the 12 I have now. It has all the key features I want from an iPhone so it’s not an issue though.

I’ve had my Pacific Blue 12 Pro Max since launch and I have to say, that I still love this device as if it was the first day I unboxed it. I love the color, the size and the weight of my phone. My Pro Max is also jailbroken on 14.1, so I know I’m missing out on the improvements after 14.1, but it’s still not enough to get me upgrade my software and phone. I didn’t watch WWDC, so I don’t know what Apple is bringing out in iOS 15, but I guess I’ll find out whenever I upgrade later in the year. Even though Apple will be launching new iPhones this year, I am sitting out upgrading this year and have 0 issues upgrading in 2022. Is anyone else planning on not upgrading this year?
Everyone should be as even an iPhone 7 is overkill for anything a cell phone should ever do. The iPhone 12 is more powerful than most budget PCs on the market.

The biggest phone I’ve owned was an 8+ and I have to admit it was nice to downsize to an iPhone 12. I used to have to take it out of my pocket every time I sat down as it would dig into my hip in the types of jeans I wear. I got used to it and loved the phone but I don’t think I’d ever go back to anything bigger than the 12 now, not that I would ever pay what the 12 Pro Max costs in my country on principle either.

I agree with you. Had the iPhone 8 Plus and then I got the Xs Max but have downsized since then with the 11 Pro. They were too big for me to be able to use comfortably. I’d like to stick to this size going forward.

It’s quiet common here, people upgrade on a contract with a telco when their 2 years is up, but keep their old phones and sell the new ones, usually need the cash so it’s all about timing. The contract is tied to the sim so if they stop paying they get chased for the money not the phone.
Have bought heaps of iphones and iPads this way and saved a bucket load, some i have flipped.
Bit of a hobby for me I enjoy the catch and kill lol. Also good for getting family cheaper iPhones so they can stay on cheaper sim only plans and not get tied into 2 year telco contracts.
I use gumtree and do the checks on the phone, and it’s always cash face to face, no postage scams.
Never had a issue. Yet haha.

11 pro was too heavy a phone for the size.

I immediately flocked to the 6+ from my 5S when it launched. Since then I have been using Plus Sized/Max phones until the X launched. I used that for 18 months and loved the phone, but didn’t like the size. It was too small to me, and I vowed that I will never use a phone smaller than 6.5 unless that’s all that Apple launch years down the road.

If my XS Max had a better signal and was the same size as the 12 Pro Max, I would’ve kept using it. I still have it as a backup phone, but to me, no iPhone is better than the 12 series.

Agreed! I fell in love with the blue of my 12!

I used to upgrade every year religiously on launch day, and I say again and again I will keep the phone for 2 years this time and fail. I hope this time it's real. Upgrades are getting more and more incremental and I got a "free" Galaxy S21+ from a carrier deal that I use a lot more than my iPhone (I can access so many more games that are region locked, 120 Hz screen, and battery is a lot better!!! Like twice as much. My iP might be faulty).

I also really dig the flat design of the phone and from what I can gather based on the rumors, the next iPhone will keep the design and maybe smaller bezels and maybe 120 Hz screen. I'd be tempted by the 120 Hz but I already have a phone that has that. I'm on iPhone upgrade program so after 1 more year if I don't upgrade I'd just own my iPhone, and I can probably use it to get some nice offer at my carrier for new iPhone.

Very interesting thread. Personally, I will be upgrading to the 13 mini, maybe not right away since I’m waiting for that MBP 14” mid-tier or high end. If the camera is abysmal as it it is every year I may pass or just get the M1 MBA for my sister.

13 mini : smaller notch (even if not), more efficient cpu and slightly larger battery alone is enough for me to hold onto for 4yrs or until another mini arrives, if and whenever that may be (even in ‘SE’) form. I can’t stand Android as a system, sure some hardware looks nice but in using it and getting it to be as good or the way I want it to be - I don’t have time like I used to in order to mess with XDA forums and the like. Support is the KEY reason.

Since I learned last year that even on the upgrade program Apple does a hard credit check every year I have decided not to go with Apple’s upgrade program. I’d rather just buy the device and because of the same reason I also didn’t upgrade last year because by the time the 12 Pro came out it was already late for the people on the upgrade program. I’m tempted not to upgrade this year as well but let’s see what Apple releases with the 13.
Wait WiTaF?! Seriously, even for existing upgrade program customers is a hard credit check? Why is Apple doing that?

I upgrade every single year. It has become a tradition and a custom. Without any hesitation I will be upgrading to the latest and the greatest :)

are you on the upgrade program or just have a whole in your pocket/purse burning? Must be like early Christmas every year. I had hoped Apple would expand their upgrade program to other countries - and probably will when iPhone sales dip significantly and consistently to boost sales. Seeing a hard credit check every year, not sure I’d want to be on that plan.

I'm keeping my 12 Pro, but my mother needs a new iPhone. She has the 8 Plus and it's on it's last leg so I will be looking for a new phone for her. I told her to wait until the new ones come out so the old ones get discounted lol - She doesn't need a 13 - an older model will do just fine for her.

I’m not sure if it’s Apple’s requirement or their upgrade program partner Barclays’s requirements. I’d think it’s the latter.

Yes! it is an early Christmas present. You only get to live once so you have to treat yourself out. This is my way of treating myself.

I used to do the whole upgrade thing but I got so tired of paying that $50 every month. It was annoying and irritating seeing it on the bill. So, I decided to buy an outright unlocked version. It just works the best for me. I don't have to deal with a payment plan anymore.

Keeping my 12 mini. My next iPhone will probably be the SE if it takes the mini form factor. Otherwise I will get a heavily discounted new 13 mini in 2023 when my 12 mini battery needs replacement. :p

As much as I love my 12 pro max, my wife wants to take it over from her xs max because she loves the photos mine takes over hers. So perfect reason for me to move up to the 13 pro max when it comes out

I agree with her wanting to upgrade from the XS Max, plus it’ll be future proof for however many years Apple keep pushing out iOS updates.

I started doing that last year and it was the best decision I made. Once September 2021 start, I’m going to save every month for 2022’s iPhone. My watch will be upgraded every 2-3 years.

I don’t have any problem trying with 2 hands, since I can type faster that way.
Me either. I have a problem typing QWERTY with one hand though, since I'm used to two.

I might be able to handle a Japanese flick keyboard with just one though... ;)
I can hold mine for hours and my hands don’t hurt
It's not that my hands hurt exactly on the regular-size. It's just that it feels big.

I have a yearly trade-in deal with my carrier, but it's expensive. I'm thinking I'll hang on to my 12 Pro Max until 2022 and then shop around for a new carrier before I consider upgrading.

I will admit, it feel like a bigger phone when I’m using my look alike Apple Silicon case. It also get a little heavier, but not enough to make me stop using it.

Telia (Norway).

Oh okay. Here in the US, I’m with Verizon and if I didn’t pay full price through Apple, I would be paying a device fee of $49.99 per month for 24 months or $39.99 per month for 30 months, in addition to my $93 phone bill. That’s too expensive for me. Paying full price don’t feel expensive since I’m keeping it for another year, and that money I would have been spending on device payments can be used for something else.
