I use apps that take advantage of more ram, to allow for more layers in my work. Right now 16GB is overkill, but that's not to say that will be the same case in the future.
this depends clearly on the apps you use. E.g. Affinity Photo will stitch panoramas with more RAM faster and with x/y dimensions other programs will not even open on an iPP.

That's my point, anything Apple releases will be for the iPad, they'll not release an application that can only run on the highest tier iPad.

I'm not knocking the 16gb model, and it can have advantages, but whatever 16GB can run, the other iPads can run also, albeit slower
I just worry that most of those high end programs will be not for free such see those 3rd party for the camera Lidar running monthly fees

Exactly. Which is what I am saying. It isn't of concern to anyone if someone brought a Pro unit, and actually has no intention of using it for Pro reasons. For that individual there isn't a thing WWDC could possibly show that makes it worth keeping the Pro. At best what WWDC can offer non Pro users is "quality of life" improvements, which has little to do if someone owns a Pro or not.

Basically if someone brought a Pro based on the hopes of what WWDC MAY offer, they brought a Pro for the wrong reasons. If they are returning Pros based on dashed hopes of what WWDC MAY offer, that perhaps mean more refurbished available for those who really want or need a Pro. ?

What people don’t understand who are complaining about 16 GB of RAM, if Apple doesn’t have a 16GB RAM iPad Pro, developers will then never develop iOS applications that can make use of that.

Apple is doing the right thing. They bring the 16 GB RAM iPad Pro on the market and overtime, developers will create applications for that.

Yup. Otherwise what do we always hear about other products? That they aren't really Pro, outside of their name & price.

I’ve noticed on many different threads and websites that a lot of people are opting for the 256 GB models by a wide margin for the newest iPad. Curious. If prices were lower and if you were buying because you had a need would you get a 1 TB? I honestly need 1 TB of space but because iPads are so expensive I got the 256 GB instead and compromised on my 2020 model.. Idk what I was thinking. I plan on keeping it at least 6 years like my Air 2. So buy what you need now because you need it. And don’t skimp either and regret it like me.

Already learned my lesson when I bought a 32GB iPad 2 and a 16GB iPad Air.

I won't skimp on storage. If needed, I prefer to just save a little longer to get the exact configuration I want. In this case, I actually waited a lot longer (4 years) before Apple released a config that justifies the high asking price, imo.

I think the real question is what one thinks is "earth shattering", and what someone else thinks is "meh".

Everyone's use case can be very different. What I find "earth shattering" may mean nothing to someone who doesn't use the iPad the same way I do. Doesn't make it any less "earth shattering", just means that WWDC may not have delivered what someone else needed, or someone was expecting more from iPad & should have gone with a Macbook instead.

I use apps that take advantage of more ram, to allow for more layers in my work. Right now 16GB is overkill, but that's not to say that will be the same case in the future. There's already a new version of Procreate on the way, and if it's capable of taking advantage of the extra RAM, the iPad has already been worth it for ME.

Sometimes it does seem like people are incapable of deciphering that needs vary across the board. Someone who likes to read books and browse the web doesn’t see the necessity of the M1 the same way the guy that does photo, video or audio editing does. Two different use cases creates two separate impressions of what is coming, but people sometimes have a hard time wrapping their heads around a use case that is completely foreign to them.

I would get 1TB on my Macs but not on my iPad. I just don't use it in a way that I need more space than 256GB. Actually I have 190GB free on my 2020 256GB iPad Pro..
On my Macs I have a full copy of my photos library, plus virtual machines on VMWare that take a lot of space. There is no way that I could do the things I do on my Macs on my iPad, running iPadOS 14. No way..

Yes price is a big factor I don't need 1TB I have a NAS for that but more RAM would be nice

Same here. I bought a new iMac last year—still loving it despite the lack of M chip—and I have 1TB on it, though about 85% of it is empty.

On the other hand, the 2018 11 iPP I’m typing on at the moment has a paltry 64GB on it. Due to my heavy use of iCloud and OneDrive, I still have 15GB free despite using the iPP everyday.

It just feels more important to have the storage on my computer, especially when I use my iPad for light work and media consumption.

There HAS to be a reason why Apple added 16gb of ram into their higher 1tb/2tb iPad Pro’s

Im pretty sure we will see something special at WWDC, and finally see a FCP App (hopefully not sub based)

Knowing our luck they will state ‘released in 2022’, much like how Adobe took months to hit our iPad Pro’s

I have the 2016 iPad Pro 9.7". Bought the iPad Pro 11" and I won't be sending it back, but I also know what I am buying, and never buy a product for what it MIGHT do, I buy it for what it DOES.

Is the iPP overkill for what I do (gaming, content consumption, notes, etc)? Perhaps. Perhaps I could have gotten away with an iPad Air 4. But, I intend to keep it for 4-5 years, and I feel like the M1 will be performing better in 5 years than the Air would. I also want 4 speakers instead of 2, 120hz refresh rate (especially as more games support this) and Face ID.

Apple doesn't ever intend for you to upgrade every refresh cycle, as these updates are always mild spec bumps (and this is no different). But, coming from the A9X, I suspect I will quite enjoy the updates I have been missing out on. I could get MOST of those updates and save a few hundred by going with the 2020 version, but that will likely get updates for 1 less year, so the Total Cost of Ownership will end up being the same regardless.

Yup, large storage is a must for Ipad as Apple makes it nearly impossible to clean Cache memory and junk files. Take the Photo app for example no way to clean it even if you deleted every thing. I also think Ipad will benefit from 16gb RAM more than Mac because IPadOS system is different and keep reloading and it's ruined my work many times

The price I am discussing is the price of Pro units. I.E. Macbooks, iPads, or iMacs. Which is what people complain about when a Macbook Pro doesn't have enough ports, and such.
Hm, while I have some understanding for the convenience of multiple ports with a discrete, single function, I see no problem using a hub/single function USB-C reader/adapter.

I actually don’t care about the “Pro” moniker - do I need a device with nice screen, long lasting battery life, and the ability to retouch my photos using a pencil and fingers? iPP it is.

Do I have to run XCode while travelling? - as of the first of may 2021 this means I go for a Macbook.

Do I want to smile when entering my office? An orange/yellow M1 iMac it is.

Do I have/want to do any of the above on a budget? Welcome at my place M1 Mini.

The mind boggling thing is that at any time I now don’t have to compromise between computing power and runtime/watt anymore.

Apps like Pixelmator Photo, RAWPower, the Affinity apps are still ridiculously cheap on iOS/iPadOS though.

Not me. I am firstly buying for the new XDR display with its extra brightness. The M1 chip is just a bonus, but nothing I do on my 2018 iPad Pro indicated a speed bump is needed - not even when I edit video with LumaFusion - so that is just future proofing as far as I can see.

Will I update to Final Cut if added to iPad Pro? Maybe, but LumaFusion does all I need at present.

If Apple charge a one off cost for FCP 'The iPad Pro XDR version' ;) then I'm jumping in head first

If they release FCP on subscription, like most of their service models, then I'm out, and will stick with LumaF !

That's if it all goes well at WWDC 2021 and Apple announce it of course... (fingers crossed)
