Arrived this morning. After selling my GMTII months ago, sellers remorse encouraged me to reunite.

My lovely mother (retired Air Force) bought me this for Christmas. A Movado Military Exclusive.

Can't find much info on it, but it's says "Swiss Made" yet quartz, which is fine since it's a gift from my mother. Wish it was silver, but the gold does look nice when I'm wearing it.

I always loved the simplicity of the Movado museum face:

Love watches. Currently have a Orient Ray in blue.

Can't stomach paying thousands of dollars for a Rolex, Omega or AP.

What could be some options to look at for a watch that is a step up from the Ray.

Looking for an automatic watch that is waterproof.

Thanks for any advice.

Budget is 400-500$

Thanks not quite what I was looking for. I prefer a thinner case. Any other gems maybe used?

What are your requirements and we'll see what we can come up with?

If you're looking for really waterproof then a diver is the way to go. If however you just want something that you can get a bit wet then your options are much wider. What kind of style are you after? Dress, field, utility etc.?

I'm not to sure. I wanted waterproof just to play it safe when I shower or wash my hands.

I'd like something different from the diver I currently have.

I like metal bands but could go for leather maybe even a NATO strap.

maybe something with no date or numerals. Can't think of much more.

Edit still editing this post.

Must have
Something with a round case.
Automatic movement
Some sort of waterproofness for when I was my hands and shower.

But, ah, I am at something of a loss on the question of why you feel the need to bring your watch into the shower? I leave mine on my bedside table - or, indeed, on the bed, while I shower.

I'm with Scepticalscibe on the shower issue and you'll struggle with a watch outside of a diver to allow you to do that as most waterproof watches don't recommend that unless they're divers.

Not my kind of thing but Orient do some nice quality watches so I'm sure it's a nice piece.

The Malvern is a beautiful looking watch that I keep meaning to add to my collection with a silver dial. They also do it with a black dial if that's your thing.

I couldn't stomach a Rolex or the like either. I wouldn't feel comfortable wearing that expensive of a watch. But I guess if you roll like that and hobnob with similar people, it's not a problem.

Somewhat surprisingly, to my mind, this depends on the actual watch, rather than the actual brand.

Some watches are loud timepieces, massive monstrosities, (and this 'look', rather regrettably, seems to be currently fashionable and considered desirable). These are watches which scream bling bling from the moment they grace your wrist. Others are more subdued, classic, elegant understated timepieces that nobody will recognise for what they are unless they are examined closely. It probably goes without saying that my strong preference is for the latter.
