I'm looking to buy this one right now.... It is kinda above the price of what I would normally pay for a watch but it seems like a beast that would last a few years, if not a decade... what do you guys think?

20 bar water resistant and a metal G-shock... I'm just afraid it'll be too big...

I like my Casio G-511D. Got it for my 18th birthday present 10 years ago. Don't wear it daily, just for special occasions.

Just to bring it back down to earth for a moment, here is my latest purchase that arrived in the post today from eBay.

In a coffee shop.
Thank you.
It's a bit too understated for me so I don't wear it much.

Here is one you don't often see-- a minute repeater.
The sales lady let me play with one while a strap was getting changed.

Ah, but understated is really lovely; this is what I, personally, find attractive, rather than something more…….ostentatious.

Over four years ago, I bought an Omega Deville, a watch I had been eyeing for around three years prior to that; it is also a classy, elegant, understated watch, and I love it for that precise reason.

Anyway, your Patek Phillippe is gorgeous, really rather lovely; personally, if I had that timepiece, I would wear it, and understated is part of its attraction…..

Yeah it has its purpose; I definitely like dress watches too.
But I also want a similarly high end sport watch like an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore in pink gold.

It's definitely loud and flashy but I find that to be fun too, kind of like a Lamborghini or a Ferrari.

I wouldn't give you twenty bucks for whatever that watch is on the right. When I look at my watch I like to be able to immediately see what time it is. With that thing it would take 20 seconds to pick out where the hands are from all the crap in the background.

Haha Richard milles start around ~100K USD.

It's really not meant for normal people like us but its popular among those who already have been through grande complications, etc.

They are horologically interesting with complications like mechanical G meter and cases made of sapphire, lightest watch in the world, etc.

I am a "watch guy", and my name here probably gives some indication as to the general sort of watches I like.

This was a very lucky Ebay buy it now, but remains one of the prizes and best pieces of my collection.

edit
it is becoming more and more of a necessity to buy a lastolite product box
light has horribly bounced of the bottom right side, and the room is reflected on the bottom left.

Really beautiful watches, and thanks for posting them. Very nice pictures, too…..I love looking at these old pocket watches, they are exquisitely crafted and beautifully made…..

What a lovely old Omega…..how old is it?

it's a 1951 model, made from some metal, apparently it ain't stainless

Unfortunately it is not a pristine piece, but I am quite fond of it anyway.

more to come, with detailed depictions of their mechanisms

ps
I meant "beat me to the chase".

Thinking of getting a Seiko SNK617. Does anyone know if the second hand is sweeping or the traditional tick-tock?

Any other thoughts for or against it?

I'm not familiar with that particular model but Seiko 5's are a pretty safe bet for a reliable decent watch. I've got an SNK809 which has been very reliable. It will have a sweeping second hand.

It might be a somewhat battered piece of silver - check for the hallmark, if there is one; it might say something like '928'. The photo would suggest silver to me. Anyway, I don't think it matters that it is not, as you say, 'pristine'; I think it is gorgeous, and long may you enjoy it.
