Buying 2018 tech in 2021 for 2021 prices just seems wrong regardless of how you spin it.
Some people don't care, (like Devin) and some people do (myself included).
I don't open windows when heating is on in the winter so I see no reason to do that here. Less than 2 weeks to wait whilst having a newest Air would be breeze.
If anything, the current model will just die at least 1 year earlier than 2021 one. That itself is worth the wait of shocking +-2 weeks. :)

One is probably looking at about a good 5 years of great usage with the current iPad Pro, I don’t know why people try talk about it like it will some how be a slouch or lose support lol

Your thinking is right. The 2020 iPad Pros brought 6GB RAM to the entire lineup, it’s going to be a long time before Apple increase RAM or make any major software that can burnout a A12X or A12Z.

It was a while ago but it wasn't an erase. I believe it was a simple revive.
Color me highly skeptical, since the issue followed the device, regardless of the version of iOS or whether it was factory reset or not. And, if the issue is so minor and solveable, why did the Apple store give me a new one?

Of course, it's voodoo.

It's Apple voodoo.

Otherwise known as Configurator 2 ;)

And what does it technically do to fix the issue that you would not be able to do with a restart or other troubleshooting step?

I’m just curious as regular users seldom come in contact with mass deployment tools.

Configurator 2 is for general public. Download it from the App Store.

Are you able to answer what it does? I’m not inclined to try it myself as I hardly sync and my phone is fine. I’m just curious what it accomplished technically that cannot be done without it.

Wouldn’t a simple DFU restore get me to the same point, in the case of it being software rather than hardware?

In transparency, I actually do care which is why my device is the Air with A14. However the older Pro model my wife has is still noticeably a better all around device.

It does not do just one thing. Most people here would probably either use the Restore or the Revive settings. You can learn the differences between the two settings here:

I had a completely bricked MBA M1 come in, and this app brought it back to life in around 30 minutes. One of my favorite apps from Apple lately.

That’s sort of what I think. I mean, they have different tiers, but within one tier you probably aren’t goin to split that up. It would create a bit of a mess. The 11” would not be a an actual Pro any longer. But I suppose you can do anything you want, it’s up to them obviously.

That app appears to be for Macs, not iPads.

So to change the thought/direction a little, if allowed... do we think the new iPads will come with 8GB of ram? (The new Pro(s))? If I had to place a wager, I’d say no but that’s me. No if both the 11 and 12 are updated, maybe if just the 12 is updated. The fact that the base iPhone is still 4GB and the Air 4 is 4GB...

What say y’all?

Unlikely, the 11" will get updated but so far the rumours were only about the bigger one to get the Mini-LED (which makes sense).

Also, I wouldn't be surprised if 11" got killed as now the Air fills the role. I doubt Mini-LED will be on all models. Apple will want to increase the price again (most likely) so they might update 11" with the CPU etc. but Mini-LED will just go to the bigger model. We shall see.

Seeing how Apple is killing most stuff these days I really wouldn't be surprised if we see iPad, 12.9" iPad Pro and the bloody Airtags. :)

I'm ready to buy one the day they announce it, along with a third-gen Pencil and a Mac mini Pro (cube?)

They haven't talked much about the 11" at all or the mini Pro, but if one size gets updated then they all will.

How are people with 2018 iPad Pros feeling about upgrading? I mean, personally I don’t think there’s anything in the world they could do to entice me to upgrade anytime soon - which is saying a lot because I’m a chronic tech purchaser. The 2018 iPad Pro was just already so close to perfection with its design, performance, ProMotion, Magic Keyboard, etc.

(Obviously still a good thing to keep updating it and keep it far ahead of the pack.)

If I had the 2018 Pro, I'd probably have a very hard time deciding whether to upgrade or not.

What do you think would be pulling you towards the rumored 2021 model?

It’s just become such an expensive device ($1299 for the model I’d purchase) that I treat it like a laptop - more of a 4 year upgrade cycle for me now, I think.

Of course now that I’ve said all this I’ll assuredly have one of the 2021 models pre-ordered :)

That just tells everyone that you don't know much about the iPad Pro.

The screen on the iPad Pro is 100 nits brighter. Try using the Air outside in bright sunlight. Good luck. The iPad Pro has 120Hz. ProMotion. The Air, of course, does not. iPad Pro has FaceID. iPad Air does not. Anyone needing heavy graphics work still needs the Pro.

And in a few weeks time most likely the Pro will gain the A14x (M1) processor.

Sure, they fit the same role...

Mostly for 5G. Maybe 8GB RAM.

If I had gotten a 2018 Pro, it would've been the 1TB LTE ($1699 and $1899 for 11" and 12.9" respectively) so my standards for upgrading would be more strict so 5G likely wouldn't be enough.

At $1299, I'd probably still be doing yearly upgrades (just alternating between sizes).

I upgraded to the 2018 iPad Pro from my 2016 9.7” iPad Pro partly because somewhere along the line, its battery life suddenly took a turn for the worse.

I also wanted the full ipad experience (Apple Pencil, Smart Keyboard) but found the typing experience too cramped with the smaller ipad.

So for me, the 2018 iPad Pro was the perfect opportunity for me to start anew. It’s still going strong now. Battery life is fine. It’s fast enough to handle everything I throw at it. I doubt I am going to upgrade just for 5g or Lidar.

I really don’t know. Let Apple surprise me, I suppose.

I switched my 2018 for a 2020 just because of the RAM increase, so if so we’re on a 2018 I’d update to the 2021 for sure.
