Why? Apple will update the Pro this year (this month most likely) so why not wait for the event and either get 2020 nonsensical model cheaper or get the latest and have it last longer?
What if Apple updates it one week later and you will pass the return period? With all the mounted rumours, are you not going to be pissed off that you didn't wait?

I just picked up the 2020 iPad Pro today. If Apple drops the 2021 on March 23 as rumored I'll return it and swap to that. Otherwise, this is still a nice upgrade from my iPad Air from 2013!

Yes, of course. I just find it hard to believe that people who do that don't get upset when new one is out a week or so later. Isn't that the human nature to want always better? ;-)
If you want me to explain people, sorry never been able to figure most folks out. Best I can do is let them do their thing And try not to judge, well at least out loud.

I would normally wait and do it at a much later period as I'm pretty good about following the rumors. I hedged in that I'm within the return period if there is an actual event on 3/23 as heavily rumored.

That being said, I've been eager to swap this device out for a while and am jumping on it now so I can use it in my Apple Fitness routines.

Just don't miss the window. I'm sure you wouldn't say no to a shiny new thing that will make it worth it :)
The resentment would probably eat you alive unless you really don't care. :)

Good luck and hope you will join us with 2021 soon :)

What if they announce a new iPad but its not actually available for a month? (Like the iPad Air 4)

I personally know a couple of people who bought the outgoing iPhone models just before the release of the new model. It's just not something they care about nor pay attention to. As long as the phone they're buying does the job (calling, texting, email), they're fine with it.

Both have million-dollar homes and have their retirement set so iPhones are just a drop in the bucket.

Anybody know what the numbers under our icons on left are ?
Do you mean the "65816"? That's a Western Design Center 8/16-bit microprocessor that first came out in 1983.

It's a geek thing :p

Regarding why there will be new iPad Pros, the current version is too much like the Air 4. They're losing money on the Pro's now because (almost) everyone is switching to the Air 4 for their purchase.

I've never seen anyone like you here before. The length you go to to defend and justify your purchase (or sell in this case) is incredible. Its also very amusing how you trash the product you've just sold to say how Air is much better and how we basically don't need the PRO. You talk as if you know 99% people's needs and on top of that you clearly lack the knowledge how things work here, with the leakers, with Apple and basically with other apps etc.
Comparing 10.9" screen to 12.9" and saying that 10.9" is fine for 99% is just pure fantasy. If we ignore the specs (and the coming specs for the refresh of the PRO) and just focus on the pure screen estate for Artists, Photographers, Videographers etc. its just so much better to work on 12.9" than 10.9". You being photographer and videographer should know that.
Just like its so much nicer to see a photo on XDR Apple screen. Or, are you telling me that its ok to "work" on iPhone Pro Max too? Where do you draw the line?
Not only that, why are you mixing things here? Is this thread about 2021 iPad Pro, or accuracy of leakers or your needs or something else?

If Air is fine for you then just be happy and chill. For others 12.9" Pro is the ideal device and for others iPad doesn't work at all. We all have different needs and definitely not 99% the same.
Artists usually prefer bigger canvas hence why they often go for the biggest screen possible. You don't so ok, thats fine.

Let others enjoy the 2021 iPad Pro that will for sure be spectacular. As others mentioned, 2020 wasn't really an update. Its the same chip architecture (and basically same chip) from 2018. Its gonna get updated this year (this month most likely) so just come to terms with it.
:p
I agree.
there’s a huge difference between faceid + 120hz vs 60 & Touch ID. I returned the MacBook Air because the display was crap. The pro has +100 nits but still not as good as 12.9 iPad.

some people like me couldn't care less about that difference, but I do agree 100% with the post you quoted and the iPad pro has other differences, much more important to me, that do justify the price difference....

I had no intention of upgrading my iPad as I just bought a new Mac mini but I logged into the Apple Store app and it made a generous offer to trade it in. I’ll probably be without it for a couple weeks but I can survive with my laptop and iPhone. Unsure if I’ll go with the Air or one of the new Pros. Just depends on the keynote. I really hope mini LED comes to the 11”. I want mini LED but idk the 12.9” just looks like a boat anchor by comparison.

My wife and I just bought an iPad air and Pro 12.9 inch a couple days ago. We debated on holding out for this year’s Pro model knowing it is just around the corner. Even though the Air has a better processor, it is the better screen in the Pro that makes the difference between the two. They're both so good though, I’m not sure what we could do to push the A12Z or A14 chips to the max. An updated pro will be a welcome update for a lot of people but the current model by no means feels outdated.

You are in a very small minority. Most people do not buy new as its very overpriced. You can wait a year and get it much cheaper. This is the perfect time to sell, but again, very few are in the market for super expensive tablets. Your average buyer will look at a $1K+ iPad Pro and a MacBook Air or Pro for the same price or cheaper, an almost every one will take the laptop. Especially an M1 equipped MacBook. They will get a cheap iPad for $300 if they want a tablet. There are no $300 MacBooks.

The average buyer doesn’t leave the house incapable of deciding between their tablet or laptop use case.

Expensive versions of many items are sold less often than their mainstream counterparts. There are bicycles out there that cost more than some cars. There are motorcycles out there costing more than cars. They survived as different product categories although they are all vehicles.

iPads will survive regardless of the Mac getting a better cpu for the same reasons.

Depends on where you live and what someone is buying the device for. Someone, for example, who is into drawing or into designing 3D will almost always buy the iPad Pro with pencil combination. Older people (60+) don't even have laptops on their radar.

I think it is inevitable that MacBooks and iPads converge at some point so people don’t really have to choose.

Personally I would love to see Apple implement a concept Ubuntu mobile tried to push for. Your device in your pocket is the brains of everything and depending on what you want, you dock that device into a shell of a tablet, laptop, etc. Imagine having an iPhone that you dock to a large monitor that then gives you Mac OS GUI.

Problem is that he is assuming that people have to choose between laptop and iPad or, at best, that if you have a laptop you'll have just a cheap iPad. I bet that most people with an iPad pro already have a (good) laptop or even several...

Nobody has statistics, but according to my experience people start with cheaper iPad models to try out the experience and then when upgrading, some are already sold on the experience and want to improve it with something that as for instance better speakers, better screen or simply larger size. This happens with other things too (it happened to me with electric scooters for instance). I am sure most iPad pro users are not first time iPad buyers and I am convinced that they are more that the small minority that he insists on....

And regardless of how big the minority is, it's probably a lucrative one for Apple, maybe even more profitable that the higher volume base iPad once accessories and higher storage variants are accounted. If it wasn't the case Apple wouldn't be pushing the pro as much as they do...

I'll ask you how you feel in less than 2 weeks. Unless the Pro you just got was heavily discounted I don't think you will want to keep it. Patience is a virtue of saints :)
