I was listening to last Adapt iPad podcast and Federico Viticci was predicting Pro 11 gets killed and 12.9 is the only new pro offering? I guess we’ll find out soon enough.

There's an awful lot of smoke around that one right now--enough where I think it's probably true. I don't take a lot of stock in the supply chain rumor mill, but sometimes there are just so many corroborating rumors that go on for so long, they just must be true. In this case it's more like what we're NOT hearing about. Most of the rumors about screen tech and everything else in the refresh have been referring to the 12.9" model. 11" model rarely seems to get a mention. It could very well be that an ever growing majority of Pro owners are going for the larger models and that Apple is just responding to that trend by killing the smaller Pro. After all, the Pro lineup did start with only the 12.9" model, right?

The product line being as it is currently, most people who do their homework are going to choose an Air 4 over an 11" Pro. All things considered, it's the more future-proof choice. If 11" Pro sales are flagging of late, this would be the perfect time to kill it and let the Air 4 slide in to that role.

Of course all this is just based on my own theories. I would also not be surprised at all if there is still an 11" Pro.

No smoking gun, but enough of the logical inferences make sense.

I do see your logic, but I hope it’s not so. I’m planning to update my 2018 11 inch this time mostly for 5G. I find the 11 inch size perfect for me, 12.9 gets heavy holding for long periods.

An alternate answer might be because the 11 inch is only a processor and maybe RAM update and the leakers are concerning on the sexier 12.9 display update. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it (He said trying to convince himself). ?

Why are people excited about a mini-LED? Not a trick question. Will it bring better colours, better battery life, a bit of both?

Possible, as Air 2020 is still a very good tablet for many people. If this is so, they might as well bump the minimal Air storage to 128 GB at the same time.

Mini-LED has the upsides of OLED, without the burn in. Mini-LED will have great blacks and HDR, almost has good as OLED. It will be a big boost for the iPad Pro display.

Let’s not forget that the iPad Pro isn’t the only device that’s rumoured to be getting Mini-LED, MacBooks are also rumoured to be getting it at some point in the not so distant future.

Same thing with the original iPad pro... Back then 4GB RAM was overkill, and even A9X for that matter, and apps were not mades to take advantage of that power for a while... I mean even the iPad 2 was supported back then.... So developer did not target the best iPad... And back then when I said I spent almost $1000 on it, some friends were like, $1000???? On an iPad????
But that's what has made its longevity.... Ans that's some of the best $1000 ever spent...
Same. I cheaped out on storage when I bought my iPad Pro 9.7” in 2016. Other than that and battery life, the kid’s still kicking butt with whatever I throw at it. It may not be capable for being my go to personal computing device any longer, but it still has plenty of life as the family iPad in the living room.

Talk about in denial

the guy with a 97.8% track record said it’s 23rd march not just prosser.
Prosser seems certain that the event is happening on the 23rd.

@DexBell will personally shave off his eyebrows if it doesn't happen. ?
I’m working on that same situation right now. First, I plant the seed.....;)
Uh, what kind of "seed" are we talking about? ;)

I really like my 11" iPad Pro. I'd be sad if Apple were to discontinue it altogether.

Mini-LED cannot turn off black pixels to conserve battery and offer true blacks, so that's unappealing to me.

I'm hoping for this as well. I do want 1TB/5G option on the 11-inch. That said, I can happily settle for a new Air with 512GB/5G for $1079. In any case, the 12.9-inch gets upgrade priority for now.

Same. I cheaped out on storage when I bought my iPad Pro 9.7” in 2016. Other than that and battery life, the kid’s still kicking butt with whatever I throw at it. I guess a lot of people cheap out with their first iPad. I did with the air 1 and mini 2 (both 16GB) but learned the lesson and bought the 1st gen pro 12.9 and 9.7 both at 128GB (max at that time, 256 came later) and 64 for the mini 4. And I got 256GB for the 10.5... Based on the good experience with the 64 for the mini 4, I got 64 for the mini 5, only upgrading it to 4G (which I regretted not taking for the mini 4). Now if I went back I'd get 256 for the mini 5.
For the pro 11 I went all in with the 1TB, but did it for the additional RAM (2018 model). However now that I have seen how nice it's to have that much space, it's going to be hard to go with anything less....especially for a pro iPad that can last you a decade... Having said that I generally always buy them on sale, never at full price...

I didn't exactly cheap out on my first iPad (32GB iPad 2). Alas, even the middle-ground option wasn't sufficient and I ordered a then max 64GB the same weekend I received the 32GB iPad 2.

Technically, 128GB was max only for the 12.9. The small storage was one of the reasons I was reluctant to buy the 1st gen 12.9. The 9.7 was released like 5 months later with 256GB available right from the start.

I was pretty against the Apple storage tax so I ended up wasting $2K circa 2013-2014 on Android alternatives. After that awful experience, caved in and contentedly spent $1K+ on the 256GB Pro 9.7.

You are right, I had forgotten that, it was only the 12.9 that had 128 as max initially... Back then 128 seemed plenty to me and very futureproof... and in a way it was... It took me years to fill it, but it was also because the first years I wasn't using the iPad as much... IOS 11 and above all iPadOS 13 pushed my iPad usage to another level and then I started filling the iPads much more quickly... Just my books and other PDFs take over a hundred GB... let alone my videos and movie collection...Now sure, I could manage storage regularly, copying and removing stuff, like I do on my 128GB devices (not possible with everything, like my locally downloaded newspaper copies, which expire at some point if not downloaded locally), but then I'll use my iPads less, because often if I need a big file quickly I'll go to where it is available locally, like my pc, and even more if I need to search a file like a video by opening several of them to see which one is the right one (try doing that from external storage on your iPad and you will corrupt your files...)

128GB was barely enough for me (manga) in 2013. I was actually hoping for 256GB by the time the Air 2 was released.

The videos have never been problematic. I've got a file server with Plex (12TB unRAID in 2007/8, 20TB Synology right now) so browsing for those is as easy as using Netflix. No kids or pets so I don't really take a lot of personal photos or videos.

Granted, comics/manga pretty much take up all storage on 256GB so it was nice upgrading to 512GB (in 2017) and actually being able to store videos on the iPads. 1TB should be even more comfortable.

yeah kids and pets are a source of lots of pictures and videos. No kids or pets either, but I kept a cat of a friend for 3 months recently and took tons of videos and pictures. Other than that it's mainly 300GB of videos or photos of past travels, but over the last year I have travelled only once....
I should probably try plex, I guess it's not free, for now I have done things the old way with videos and music, that is turning my huge collections of CDs and DVDs into mp3 and video files on SSDs and HDDs.... (and on the internal or expandable storage of my devices)

Actually the Pro line also had the 9.7 Pro. I have one of the originals and it, the magic keyboard and Pencil all still work like pros. Although, I really wouldn’t mind a new one. Patiently waiting.

It did but not until the year after—about 6 months after the original 12.9” model. The 12.9 has always seemed to be the more heavily promoted size. If you take a look at Apple’s marketing for iPad Pro, it almost always features the 12.9”, especially with the newest FaceID design.

Oh I hear you. While I’d rather have the 11 inch size, if they only offer the 12.9, I would try that one.

I've never seen anyone like you here before. The length you go to to defend and justify your purchase (or sell in this case) is incredible. Its also very amusing how you trash the product you've just sold to say how Air is much better and how we basically don't need the PRO. You talk as if you know 99% people's needs and on top of that you clearly lack the knowledge how things work here, with the leakers, with Apple and basically with other apps etc.
Comparing 10.9" screen to 12.9" and saying that 10.9" is fine for 99% is just pure fantasy. If we ignore the specs (and the coming specs for the refresh of the PRO) and just focus on the pure screen estate for Artists, Photographers, Videographers etc. its just so much better to work on 12.9" than 10.9". You being photographer and videographer should know that.
Just like its so much nicer to see a photo on XDR Apple screen. Or, are you telling me that its ok to "work" on iPhone Pro Max too? Where do you draw the line?
Not only that, why are you mixing things here? Is this thread about 2021 iPad Pro, or accuracy of leakers or your needs or something else?

If Air is fine for you then just be happy and chill. For others 12.9" Pro is the ideal device and for others iPad doesn't work at all. We all have different needs and definitely not 99% the same.
Artists usually prefer bigger canvas hence why they often go for the biggest screen possible. You don't so ok, thats fine.

Let others enjoy the 2021 iPad Pro that will for sure be spectacular. As others mentioned, 2020 wasn't really an update. Its the same chip architecture (and basically same chip) from 2018. Its gonna get updated this year (this month most likely) so just come to terms with it.
:p

Have you owned both an Air 4 and an iPad Pro and used them together? No, you haven't. Im telling you from experience owning the two and using them side by side for a month that those advantages make zero difference in the real world to 99% of buyers. They are neat specs on paper that will only matter to the very few who need to have 30 apps going while they stream Youtube videos while they watch a movie while editing 4k video lol.

Apple really boxed themselves into a corner with the new Air devices. Both the iPad and MacBook Air are so good, there is zero reason to pay more for a Pro model unless you are in that 1%
