I found the Flippy Jr/Fun Size to be a good fit the iPad mini.

I believe @taneff meant a stand that can be comfortably used on one's lap.
But there was mention of pillows as being too big, so I don’t know. I have something similar to that flippy thing.

Thx. Yes, on my lap. Sorry, I am not an native english speaking person.

Thx, this is smaller than the normal pillows? Unfortunately in my country it is rather expensive, like 50$... But this in iPad Mini size is what I am searching for. Or something else which also fits good on the laps.

I had one of those stands LibbyLA mentioned, but it broke the first time I used it and don't wanna try it again.

I have stands for table etc. But something comfortable using the Mini on the lap is what I am still searching for. And I had one of those pillows but they were just too big for the Mini. You can use it on there but I would rather have something that fits the Mini well. And I don't wanna put a case on it as I never use my Mini with a case.

From what I understood, the only pillows he found were big ones that can accommodate 11"-12.9" tablets. We have both the regular Flippy and Flippy Jr and the Jr is considerably smaller.

Here's a side by side pic or the the 2021 12.9" on the original Flippy and the 2021 iPad mini 6 on the Flippy Jr. Do note, the $50 version might be the big one. Right now on Amazon, the original Flippy is $20-30 depending on style while the smaller, mini-sized Flippy Jr is $25-30 for a 2-pack (so $12.50-15 each).

Thx for the pic. That is something I am searching for. I live in Europe, not UK though. Quite expensive here. But I will watch the Flippy Jr. and maybe give it a go either way. Thx very much.

Edit: I think it is called Flippy Fun size now. Shows a smartphone on it with plenty of space. But it is not available in my country.

I feel like people who specifically seek out to see the jelly scroll are just depriving themselves of a good device. Even tech YouTubers have said that once they ignore it and don't try to look for it, it does not bother them at all (including Dieter Bohn who first reported about the jelly effect). I only really see the jelly scroll if I'm finger scrolling really fast to get to the bottom of the page, in regular usage that is not a problem. Totally not a reason to return the device IMO, but maybe people are super sensitive to the slight motions and if it actually makes them nauseous then go ahead and return it. For those who complain that this is a $500+ device and this is unacceptable? Well, okay, then return it if you're unhappy. Again, depriving yourself of an amazing little tablet otherwise.

I am in love with the iPad Mini and have been waiting for a revision to this form factor for ages now. I've had the iPad 12.9 and 11 inch before but ended up selling it because I never use it as much as I should. Always end up grabbing my phone to do a quick web search, browse the web, etc because it's less cumbersome. Now I can actually leave my phone alone.

So after saying that I was returning my Mini, I’ve actually kept it and am sticking with it.
I decided to try and use it after the initial let down of the screen, and through just enjoying the device for what it is, it’s made me realise how much I actually like it.

I went out and bought myself a folio and an Apple Pencil 2 yesterday and I a, just loving this little thin even more now.

I know I’ve done a complete 180, but it was only ever the screen that I didn’t like on this device. I still don’t really like it, but I feel like I have pushed past it and I’m just used to it now. Using it as a planner for work today with the pencil for notes and to do lists (good notes) and using it for WebEx video calls has really made me realise how versatile it is.
I normally just use a pen and paper and my laptop for Webex calls, but the iPad camera is much better for calls and using GoodNotes for my workflow is so handy! I’ve had an iPad before but always a bigger sized one and this is just perfect to become a digital notebook.

After work Im now using it for web browsing, YouTube and playing draw something lol.

So after being adamant I was returning it, I now love it. I still don’t like the screen, but have taken it for what it is with the hope hat some software updates down the road will fix the wasted space on the Home Screen.

The folio I bought was a cheap Amazon one, and it’s horrible. Definitely should have gone official Apple, and likely will do in time.

I really envy those who are not sensitive to the jelly scroll! This mini is borderline perfect except for two major flaws: overt jelly scroll in portrait and lack of storage in the base model.
Lack of storage? :D
Unless you are trying to make this iPad mini 6 store multiple iPadOS games, a lot of download music and video you have plenty of storage for a casual user with many apps, and usually most streams/reads content online. At ~ 40 GB free currently with everything copied over. 64 GB is more then enough for me to use the camera a bit, take short videos, or download a few movies for a trip. Then you can offload it to USB-C storage if you need to.

I should note some might really want to use the Mini 6 for serious content editing, managing collection, and that can use a lot more storage.

Now about that other topic, do you ever scroll in a way that you use your finger across the screen to stop the stroll quicker on a 60 Hz screen, I do. I don't normally scroll lifting my finger away. I haven't change how I scroll the iPad Mini 6 from previously Mini 5 either.

BTW This Mini 6 really pairs well with someone that uses a laptop or desktop, and also a smaller iPhone such as the iPhone 13 mini. I hope you can take time to play with it more sometime and use it differently. :)

Storage - I'm using this compact USB-C uSD reader with a 256GB card for video storage -

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08131PLHZ

Works great with nPlayer - it can directly access and play from the card (as can Files).

Yes, lack of storage. Even the iPhone 13 Mini has 512GB now. 64/256 for an iPad is laughable. It should have been 128/256/512 options. Especially now that the Mini can take 4K/60 video.

I guess some people might use their iPads for taking videos and pictures but I’m not one of those people . That’s what my iPhone is for. My iPhone is always going to take better pics and videos than any of my iPads. Also Im subscribed to the 2TB iCloud storage plan so all my photos and videos go there. Most of my movies and TV shows are purchased from iTunes so they are stored in the cloud and can be streamed when I wish to. Of course I’m subscribed to other services like Netflix, Disney and prime video but again they are all streaming platforms. My old mini was 256GB. I had it for over two years and only used 40GB of storage. My iPad Pro is 256GB and I’m still using the same 40GB. So this time round I went with 64GB.

Hell my first iPad was the OG iPad mini and I only had 16GB and I managed that. Had a much better time with that iPad than my larger Samsung galaxy tab 2 10.1 which could use an SD card. It’s much easier to live with less storage these days than it was in 2012/2013 as the cloud is more present.

I picked up an iPad mini 6 Space Gray 256gb 5G model. I love it so much! I have been a fan of the mini and have owned several of the earlier iterations.

If I look really hard, I can somewhat see the jelly scrolling but in normal day to day use, I don't notice it at all.

I love how portable the mini is. It can fit in my jacket pocket or my small sling bag, so I don't even need to carry a backpack. I also love having the 5G connectivity. I use it mostly for browsing twitter, RSS, reading articles I save for later, playing Apple Arcade games, & watching YouTube.

Is it a perfect device? No, nothing is. My M1 iPad Pro 12.9 has a way better screen, my 12 Pro Max has much better cameras, & Mac OS is very powerful on my MacBook Air. But for what it is, the mini is very special.

It doesn't matter if the iPhone takes better video. Masny iPad owners actually have Android. The iPad Mini can take the video though, and Apple needed to equip it accordingly.

The jelly scroll will definitely be fixed by Apple quietly in the next iteration.

They did the same thing with the 12.9. The 2017 iPad Pro has an issue with lamination in that bright spots develop on the display approx 1-2 years after purchase. This was fixed in the 2018 version.

The 2017 to 2018 iPad Pro was a complete redesign, not some silent fix to cure a particular problem. The mini will have jelly (whether some see it or don't) until they bring out a Mini Pro with ProMotion

Mini 5 does not have jelly. It’s only on the Mini 6. No LCD iPad apart from Mini 6 ha jelly scrolling otherwise we would be hearing about it on ipad air as well.

I don’t know why people want to return over something so trivial. I am thrilled with my new iPad Mini 6. Since getting it I use consistently in preference to my iPhone 12 Pro Max - the iPad Mini for me is a much more enjoyable experience. I have not been so excited with a new device since the 2018 iPad Pro came out.
My iPad Pro 2018 was just recently stolen from me, including my new M1 MacBook Air (A very long story on how that happened). So I’ve been kinda in the same mindset as you with the jelly rolling being a little more trivial for my person use case but understanding that’s not the case for everyone. I think the Mini would be a great replacement device for the iPad Pro as a more “tablet” and compliment to the MacBook Air when I get a new one.

Also, has anyone had any luck or any advice with maybe seeing if Apple would replace my stolen goods? I’ve talked to two senior agents already and they were basically like sorry, you’re out of luck.

Incorrect, all LCDs have jelly. It depends if your vision means you are not seeing it or just haven’t until now. I have a mini 4 I’ve had since launch. I noticed jelly in landscape when these reports broke, after years of not seeing it. It’s been proven the Air also has it, but it’s in landscape and also along a lot a wider width which makes it less noticeable.

That just isn’t true, every display has it. Just look at how we make monitors and you will see it is impossible not to have it. I have also confirmed it being on my iPad mini 5 in landscape, my 2021 iPad Pro 12.9” in portrait and loads of iPhones I have at home. Even my 165 Hz gaming monitors have it.

I’m confused, are you asking if anyone has had Apple replace a stolen iPad and MacBook, for free? That’s what insurance is for!

I recommend abandoning your attempt to convince people otherwise. It's a lost cause. I can clearly see the jelly scrolling on the Mini 6 (without the need to "prove" it by some janky stuttering slo-mo youtube video)... and yet it is not present on my Mini 5 in landscape or portrait. (some claim that my vision is somehow limited in my ability to perceive the jelly scroll)

It isn't present on my iPad 1 and iPad 2 (yes, I still own both of them... the 1 as a digital picture tube for a vintage TV, the 2, as a dedicated iCade machine).

So... let those who believe it is a characteristic of all LCD screens continue on with that and make their purchasing decisions accordingly... if you think it is something to be concerned with, then make the appropriate decision as well.

Yes, I’m still working with insurance to get it squared away! I guess it’s the impatience in me to see if Apple would maybe send a refurbished as I wait in the meantime. Did not mean for it to sound like I was looking for free devices.
