what ritsuka said, above. also, if you've gone back to catalina, there's a separate forum for that on macrumors. you should be there, not here...
Well, did I say something about Catalina before your post? I only replied to your answer and said I can't do what you suggested.

right, and i explained how to do this in big sur, the topic of this forum, and the one you posted on. how would anyone know you're not on big sur? also, the terminal command suggested to turn off the chime in catalina won't do anything but turn off the chime; don't be afraid of the terminal, this is simple, and reversible.

Yes, it’s 2020, there’s no need for a chime to differentiate the brand, I know people like that kind of tuning, but these days it’s meh... I want a quiet quite laptop without kernel panics, not some kind of horn announcing I turned on my laptop or desktop.
You can turn the sound either on or off by clicking a checkbox in System Preferences so I have no idea what you’re complaining about.

the OP explained that they went back to catalina (so why they are complaining about it on the big sur forum is hard to understand)...

Then turn off the startup chime - problem solved!

he can't turn it off in catalina without the terminal (which he seems scared to do). so, it's cool that apple brought it back for those who like it, and (surprise!) gave us the option in big sur to have it on or off...

Embrace the future? Remember what you told to us who don’t like flat design when iOS 7 and Mac OS Yosemite were released?

Now it’s your turn.

It's about time. Remember when folks clamored for something other than skeuomorphism by 2012? (it's 6 years old already!)

Well, it's been 7 years of flat design already! Time for something new!

Personally, I never grew tired of skeuomorphism. It made using my devices fun, and for a time, only Apple was doing it (well, Windows XP did it but it looked like a Fisher Price toy at the time). It's one reason I currently hold onto a Galaxy S4.

I think it's progressing slowly back towards Mavericks, and so long as the naysayers don't go all rage about 'muh flat design!!!!' the next update might be even closer to it.

I think its flatter than ever. The worst part is how large everything is, what a waste of screen space. Do we really need to be looking at so much dull, flat, wasted space?

Oh really?

...have to agree it looks bad, and I’m the guy on Mavericks. Themes never work, they aren’t complete and end up looking messy. It’s a shame.

Well if anyone has any ideas for a browser that resembles Mountain Lion's Safari version, I'm open to them. I ran up empty on the App Store and older versions refuse to cooperate. I can run 32-bit Firefox oddly (see screenshot) but not Safari from Mavericks.

I'd also love to figure out how to restore the glossy traffic lights, too. But Flavours 2 stops at Yosemite.

It's not Safari. Safari isn't theme-capable. I just used an Aqua theme on Chrome. Firefox is version 28 from 2013.

I run into the same wall on phones even those on Android. Any theme is merely skin deep and what I get is a bad copy of a Samsung Galaxy S4; It'd be easier to just buy a used Galaxy S4 and have complete set.

That's why I hope for skeuo's return soon.

Oh great. the permissions bug again. I'm worried I'll break my Mac doing whatever disabling SIP does...Is there any way to accomplish this with an app or a script? Also, there is no library/CoreServices folder.

If only iOS's icons looked as decent as Big Sur's though. The ones in iOS 14 still seem right out of iOS 7. It's seriously getting old.

So i tried Big Sur for 2 weeks. I don’t like it.
I don’t appreciate the iOS design language. It seems gimmicky.

Best way I can describe Big Sur:
I feel like I’m using a large iPad, and thats not why I bought a computer with a 5k 27” screen.
Reverting back to Catalina

2 weeks, and you're done. or... you could live with it, adapt, and you'd wake up one morning realizing you're just using your mac, and the GUI has become background to your actual work.

i always think people who do this (revert), will eventually update, then, when the next OS comes along and something's changed, will complain, then revert again back again one OS (this time to big sur). and so on.
