I'm about 99.99% really to just pull the trigger on the 2015 imac 27 with i7, 8Gb, 395x 4Gb, 512Gb SSD, and 3 yrs applecare. I'm over waiting, time to buy now.

For anyone that owns this configuration is there any performance issue, input lag or anything about the machine that irritates you so much that you wouldn't buy it?

My most intense use case: FCPX / about 3 multicam angles and 4 audio angles / ~10-20min 1080p piano teaching videos. Might look at getting into Logic as well.

I was a loyal Apple fan since 1993. But now not anymore. This company refuses to release new computers regularly.
@iMac 527 days since the last release.
@MacMini 888 days since the last release.
@macPro 1190 days since the last release.
Totally unacceptable.:(
The only thing they are currently interested in is the Apple Watch, the iPad and the iPhone.
And the last system MacOsSierra is not compatible with a lot of software that I use. In the past, the systems were much more compatible with older software.
My love for Apple is gone.

The thing that irks me the most, is the fact that Apple shut down the apple store - for what, really a spec bumped iPad and a red iPhone? Seems overkill and unnecessary to be honest.
Well, it's possible that they also had some maintenance to do and it made sense to combine product update with internal site updates.

Except for the fact that Apple does this all the time. New product(s) means shutting the entire apple store down. I don't know of any other organization that brings their site down, just to add new products - especially for such a minor update such as this.

They might as well wait, now, and give us COFFEE LAKE processors. Supposedly there is a 15% speed bump with them and they come out in July-onwards this year.

Otherwise we will get the Kaby Lake in May-June and never see another iMac refresh until 2019.
Given Intel's recent track record in new processor delivery, I think Apple might be reluctant to risk even more delays.

One issue as I see it, is that Apple's release schedule appears to be in conflict with Intel's calendar. Apple is ready to release a Mac in the fall, but Intel has been rolling out new chips in the spring. So that leads to hard decisions by Apple on what to do.

For some reason people still seem to be under the impression that Apple are going to be holding an April event for iPad's and the Mac, it makes no sense to me when they have just announced the new budget iPad surely if they were holding an event they would of held the iPad and new colour iPhone along with the new Watch bands back until the April event after all April is only a matter of weeks away.

I don t see a March iMac update happening. Usually there s a 1 week advance notice and the month has only 8 days left.

You would hope so, but Apple is as Apple has been for several years.

Perhaps they will skip companies and go with AMD's Ryzen processors, but I find it doubtful. If Apple does go to AMD with the next Macs (or some of the next Macs) I wonder if the savings will be passed down?

But the 12" Pro is well overdue an update and there seemed to be more than enough rumours from people with decent track records to suggest that a new model of the iPad was imminent. Someone else mentioned that Apple have done this in the past - there was quite a lot of little things announced this week - where they release stuff which is really not newsworthy so that an upcoming event has time to cover the big stuff.

Who knows, its all just conjecture at the moment.

Yesterday I didn't think so, but today my feeling is yes. If they wanted they could have put out a spec bump this morning, but it's not ready, so you gotta wonder why.

I personally think they're planning some kind of fundamental overhaul to their whole desktop lineup. I think it will be just iMac and Mac going forward, and they could announce both at the same time, maybe WWDC in June, but more likely in late Fall when they traditionally show off new hardware.

My only concern with an iMac redesign is they could ditch the user-upgradable memory, and bump the price just for the hell of it. Or make it even thinner and harder to cool. But I have a feeling we'll see some exciting products this year, hopefully it will be worth the wait, because damn we have been waiting a while already.

Fall?!? I really don't hope so, my 2012 iMac is getting very slow, I need a new computer..and I think Apple also knows that a lot of customer are waiting for a redesign...your maybe right..they usually do it in fall but for I'm really hoping not just for my sake but for apple sake...

Also I hope that if they do create a new innovative* wireless keyboard that has a touch bar that they put out a normal/less expensive model like they did with the new MacBook pros

Anyone else feel like going insane with all the waiting and speculation? I'm not a "hater", but man, it's so obvious to see the way computers (I use this term to mean laptops and desktops only, sorry iPad Pro) have become low priority for Apple. The days of updating their computers once a year or even more are long gone. Now we can expect a year and a half or even two years or more for computer updates. Those of us wanting an iMac are stuck waiting and wondering for almost the entire year...I wanted a 27" iMac last year but decided to wait because March didn't seem that far away. Now it's April, then June, then October...when does it end? Meanwhile we get daily iPhone 8 rumors...screw this...

Some of this is a function of the chips that mac's run on. Processor and video card advancements have slowed, as its been harder to make smaller and smaller transistors. The old days of multiple updates to a product line in the same year are gone, simply because chips are not being updated that fast anymore.

Now obviously there aren't any good reasons why lines like the mac pro and mac mini haven't been updated in so long. But when it comes to the iMac, updated intel processors were only released a couple months ago, and this release was probably the most underwhelming of any intel has done in recent years. There is no reason to think the iMac won't be updated in a timely manner, as Apple has been fairly consistent with its updates.

When I see recent news, I don't think we will see Desktop computer soon.
I was hoping for new desktop on March but it won't happen.
Now some people speculate that AMD Ryzen might be good for new iMac.
Since Ryzen is much cheaper than intel, Apple might extensively test the chip before they make the decision and it will take some extra times. April or even June release is a little doubtful that Kaby lake chip is not the most effective/efficient chip so Apple just can't put so-so chip with minor upgrade then it will be huge disappointment with horrible reviews.

I really need new desktop for my music productions but don't want to buy outdated computers and hate to buy current iMac with overpriced SSD option. If Apple won't release new iMac until late fall or even 2018, they should drop prices on SSD options.
Honestly I won't be surprised to see new iMac in 2018 Q1 or Q2. Hopefully I am wrong about this.

Respectfully disagreed. 2016 was a huge jump for GPUs. Now if Apple would kindly update to last year's technology before next year, we could all upgrade our Macs. :)

I agree that 2016 was a good year for GPUs, but that followed 5 years of being stuck on the 28 nm process. Now that we are on 14/16 nm, who knows how long this will be the standard...

I don't know if they will release a redesigned iMac this year, the problem is they already have a great display with 5K the design still looks modern and cool, so apart from updating processors and the graphics cards I can't see what else they can do (Touch Bar and Touch ID for the keyboard would be nice)

Mine has 32GB and a 1TB SSD and it's great for everything I throw at it. One of the reasons I'm not overly concerned about when Apple releases a new iMac as the GPU is all I really care about (and even then, for what games I play, the 395X is plenty).

They did that last November - SSD upgrade prices dropped $100-200 depending on capacity.

I would not be surprised at all if Apple has been evaluating AMD CPUs and once they reach performance parity with Intel chips I would not be surprised if they didn't move to them.

Guys this should tell you something.

Late 2011 model.
Late 2012 model.
Late 2013 model.
Late 2014 model.
Late 2015 model.
Late 2017 model perfectly consistent.

One suggestion czerney. Go with PCI-E Flash Storage. The 1TB in my iMac is blazingly fast.

And USB-C across their laptops would be a good indicator that they could do a spec bump and also bring the iMac in line with those.
