5 Pages of people saying a 720p phone will never sell. Has anyone ever stepped foot outside this forum? This phone will be sold out through Christmas. I'm honestly worried I won't be able to get one for my daughter for Christmas. Do you think teenage kids know what 720p is? We have a 4K HDR tv and my kids watch netflix on iPads.

This forum is a bubble of insanity.
Most adults who don’t follow tech have no idea about the specs we talk about here even. I always say the non tech savvy consumer will judge on price and aesthetics and the XR will undoubtedly be the best selling new iPhone over the next year IMO. When I ordered my iPhone 8+ the week before last it was delayed 4 days due to stock issues so I think lower prices iPhones carry a certain amount of appeal now prices have increased.

This year you also no longer have to pay upwards of a grand to get an iPhone with the new form factor so I think it’s naive to think the most expensive iPhones will be more popular.

Outside of the original iPhone X, none of the recent iPhones (7, 8, Xs, Xs max) have "sold out" that quickly. The XS Max was available for walk-in shoppers pretty much on day 1. You may have to wait a bit for a specific color and storage option, but they should be readily available.

In terms of the broader question on how well the XR will do, a lot of it will depend on how much carriers promote it and how Apple promotes it. There is a chance Apple basically promotes only the XR from October on.

Oh you can bet your bottom dollar they are going to promote it. Especially all the various colors, it's going to be a cool ad that is going to run through the holidays. I agree with some of the others, this will end up being the top selling iPhone at the end of the the holiday season quarter for Apple. I know people that bought the XS or XS Max and just decided spending that kind of money was not worth it and return it, now waiting to order the XR.

Think about the XR in most cases when you view video these days on cellular most plans use some sort of data streamer which cuts the video down to 720p or even 480p in some cases. The only time this would be obvious is if you are on wifi and wanted to look at 1080p and the average consumer won't notice a difference. The only caveat that I have is the display is going to have to be decent, no fuzzy text etc, which I think at 326ppi it will be just fine. Can you tell a comparative difference sure if you do a side by side, but most won't be doing that.

This thing is going to rock off the shelves! I am going to buy one because I think its actually going to have much better battery life and reception. We shall see!!!

predict the XR will sell like crazy - selling more than the XS.

The colors and form factor (and lower price) will be enticing to many.

Also would assume this will be a hot seller at retail where customers can see it in the flesh whereas the X/XS was popular for online ore-orders - that is what the geeks who want the latest tech do. XR buyers will include a lot of impulse shoppers, in person at Apple stores.

I would love an XR (I and bought a Max) because they simply look great.

No chance it will sell out fast. Most of the parts are legacy components from older iPhones. Heck I wouldn’t be surprised if the plastic backs are from old 5c’s.

You think they took plastic backs from phones that were significantly smaller than the XR and re-used them on the XR? Which other parts of old phones do you think were re-used?

Sorry what parts? Sure they took the back of the 5c, the frame of the 5s, logic board of the MacBook and the display of the iPod and finished is the XR :)

Most parts are new design and different size

Oh. I was talking about the display:
LCD.320ppi, no 3D Touch , much lower contrast. All from the iPhone 8.

Also the camera is basically the same as the 8.

Hm. I don’t know what XR you have in mind but the one Apple will sell has not the display from the 8 and also not the camera...

Unlike iPhone 8, the XR supports 120Hz touch input.

The front and rear camera are completely different from the iPhone 8. Not sure where you're getting your misinformation.

Actually my bad. The 8 has better PPI.

And a better dual camera.
Maybe you should read again the tech sheet from Apple. The 8 has the same ppi and worse camera.
If you are talking about the plus. Than yes. But the camera sensor is smaller. The XR has the same as the XS without tele.

Your point was that they could use the display from the 8 and cos of that it wouldn’t outsell fast. And that is just bs

The XS isn’t that wide! Is it?

The bezels are bigger on the XR so yes that is the XR.

I think the Xr will be very popular and certain colors WILL sell out quickly, while others will not. So, if you're set on an Xr and aren't able to order ASAP, you may have to adjust your color preferences... I'm up for a new phone, but I wanted to see what the reviews were for the Xr, it looks like the internals are nearly identical to the Xs, with a cheaper external materials... The screen is supposed to be the best LCD apple's ever had on a phone, so it should be better than the 8...

I think what you folks have to understand that the market is not made up of people like you.

Most people see a new iphone, Flashy new colors, Better camera, that looks like the iphone X but much less.

Also camera not as good single vs duel ,720 p screen not even 1080 p, 3 gb ram not 4, ip 67 not 68, no LTE band 46.

CC

Literally, parents on Christmas Eve are only seeing a bigger iPhone x for cheaper. Personally, even with the stuff you stated its still worth it for the price.

Also: without the PPI and resolution of the XS or XS Max. The resolution of the Xr doesn't even match the Plus phones.

The Xr is like putting a Ferrari engine in a Nissan Sentra.

Yea. People think they’re getting a bargain with the Xr. I bet there will be a lot of buyers that will return to either a 8+ or pony up to the Xs/Max.

The PPI is what I’m frustrated with. If they would have matched the PPI of the Plus I would have purchased it...

I “downgraded” to an 8 Plus due to the PPI the XR.

Yeah I think that was a great decision. If the OLED bothers my eyes, I plan on doing the same exact thing.

I think most consumers outside a tech forum will appreciate the XR and Won’t fret over ‘PPI’, this Phone will be successful long term. However, I agree that there will be threads stating “Why I returned my XR” shortly after the launch.
