What is the iPad Pro Design Language?
Mirrored Apple instead of plastic?
Thicker edges?
Flatter in total?

Just look at the XDR for the bezels...and look at the iPad for that 'iPhone 4' 'flat' edge and 'tight' rounded corners in 'space grey.' (Hopefully the iMac won't be as bendy as the 12.9 inch iPad...)

I must get ready psychologically for this transition... it's my third one: Motorola -> IBM -> Intel -> Apple

I started on a Mac with an 8MHz 68000 of a Mac Plus, cleaning almost weekly the rubber ball of the mouse but enjoying so much the tzzz tzzz tzzzzzzz of the FD drive when a 3.5" was inserted. :D
Grandad, please tell us more stories! We LOVEEE hearing your stories. (Sorry... I had to)

Geeze. Third one? You must be psychologically battle hardened or shell shocked. Post traumatic transition trauma.

If it's any solace, I used to dream of Apple owning their own cpu and gpu. So this? It's coming home. Many were never happy at leaving PPC behind. (It didn't quite jibe with Steve Job's holy war vs Windows...for me...)

So. I won't cry. I WON'T cry when Mac ARM gets announced. I'm not gonna cry...

This will be my 2nd one. My Adobe suite got 'Intel-ed' on the last bridge. £1k worth of software. Never got used.

Last time when they had the dev transition kit

Would you say Apple are far better prepared for this transition (with Mac ARM probably been running in the secret lab for the last 5 years?) then the last? And that perhaps it's been going on stealthily in front of our very eyes?

This depends very much, IF in secret in the last few years were testing with developers also, if the big names sign an NDA to work with apple for ARM chips, then this will be huge, the transition will be very very smooth and optimised , so in 2 years, by the end of 2022 Apple could placed ARM chips into the entire mac line (expect the mac pro)

"New story: Apple preparing to announce move to Macs with its own Arm chips, replacing Intel, as early as at WWDC this month."

I must learn to read. I missed this bit from the aforementioned tweet. :O

'THIS month.'

So. Dev' hardware? Or an actual product for sale. (I don't see the latter. Surely not?) I expect them to 'announce' the move with time to prepare for it (like last time) with dev' kit hardware. A Macbook Pro (or the returning Macbook design?) with a Mac ARM chip in it?

Some thing like this, Dr. Radon?

Dude, XDR is not a computer. Desktop CPU and GPU requires a totally different cooling system. Do you even know its TDP for CPU and GPU? What does it even have to do with AIO desktop?

Yeah of course. But they both need to let cool air in and let the hot air out. The holes allow it to happen. Doesn’t matter if it’s a monitor or an AIO.

I think Marzipan / Catalyst was possibly the beginning of the transition? Equally if the rumours about Xcode and FCPX coming to iPadOS hold any truth then I think the transition steps may have been taking place for far longer than initially understood.

If Apple were to announce a 23 inch ARM Mac in WWDC that's positioned somewhere between a fully-fledged consumer device and a dev transition kit, then showing iPadOS running 'pro apps' such as Xcode and FCPX may go a long way to boost consumer confidence in the ARM transition.

I can already see the comparison videos of "Build time comparisons between iMac 5k 2019 and iPad Pro 2020" or "4k RED Video rendering comparison between iMac 5k 2019 and iPad Pro 2020"

Ooft, is that 32inches? If so, I will take 2!

It's ON gusping...smaller bezels mean...smaller foot print or 'teH' bigGeR screen. :)

The i7-8086k was an overrated Intel CPU. Just an OC'd 8700k ;)

Mind if I tag along with you two? sounds fun.

*thumbs up. Oh, it would be... ;)

Azrael.

PS. Intel? They've been treading water for years. If Apple want to put the boot into them? This next year is the time to do it.

I have no idea what you are talking about. Let cool air in and hot air out is a basic idea of cooling. Also, iMac's cooling system itself isn't that great already. Do you even know the size of both the desktop-grade CPU and GPU cooler?

With Freida you would drink till closing times :-D

...*smiles. But of course...

It won't have a Nocturne cpu cooler in there...that's for sure.

I’m not on about the cooling system itself. I’m on about the holes in the case.

If they don't fix Target Display Mode (TCON takes in 2 fused DP 1.2 pipes, instead of 1 TB3 pipe) with the redesign I'm gonna freak

Great post. You're right on the money here. X-Code. FCPX. etc.

This won't be like the Steve Jobs Photoshop demo'd where Rosetto slowly loaded up and Steve 'hummed' for a second or two.

I get the sneaky feeling Apple will be much better prepared for this one. And we're in for a few surprises.

Yeah. We may get a bit of that XDR language re: Bezels. But also the holes on the back. I wouldn't rule that out.

It won't get the LED so cooling that part of the XDR won't be a problem.

We're just getting the design language. In all probability. XDR/iPad hybrid re: the stunning image Macrumours dropped.

Can't rule out a bigger display in the same footprint. (*praying for this.) The image teases and tantalises more secrets to reveal... (C'mon Apple...push...PUSH...PUSHHHHHH! HEAVVVVVVVVVVE!!!!)

I'd be more intrigued to see what kind of changes we can see with macOS in the new ARM world tbh... wouldn't make too much of a difference for stationary desktops and larger laptops but 12inch / 13inch MacBooks could see an interesting shift if they were to introduce 'always-connected' MacBooks with good battery life.

I hope this also means easier VESA mounts

I feel like something still doesn’t add up. Everything is pointing to a iMac redesign at WWDC at the same time they are announcing transitioning their entire lineup to ARM, but it’s too soon to actually ship an ARM iMac. While many users would be comfortable buying the last Intel iMac, others would not.

Guess we find out in 13 days.
