Both iMac and iMac Pro are all still available to buy here in Oz, BTO is two weeks.

Yeah, so many rumours out; could be anything or nothing on the iMac front.. With Apple it's best to have low expectations so that you don't get crushed when they announce a minor bump...
So true.... the days of huge surprises are gone :(

These look legit lads, I'm getting excited, especially for the loss of two usb ports!

Best render I have seen yet and I agree they look plausible. We can hope. Are the relative size of the small and large iMac compatible 23 and 27 respectively? Very thin though, 2 cm? Cooling?

Were is my wallet? I suddenly got an urge to use money.

Yep, way too thin. You ain’t fitting a 5700XT or 10900K in there. No cooling solution would work in such a tight space.

That the "unannounced Mac" has an EEC serial number beginning with A2 - which is used for MacBook Pros - and is running on macOS 10.15 Catalina makes me believe it will be either a 16" MacBook Pro refresh (moving to Comet Lake-H and maybe MiniLED) or it will be the new rumored 14" MacBook Pro.

I am not sure Apple needs to file with the EEC for a Developer Transition System that will not be sold to the general public (especially if they do it as a rental like they did the Pentium 4 Intel DTS in 2005). And I presume the ARM system will be designed around macOS 10.16 and not work on Catalina or earlier releases.

That article is bull and the guy who wrote it didn't do enough background research given that the device categories in the EEC database are very specific

personal computer ... and its relevant parts - macs
portable personal computer ... and its relevant parts - macbooks
tablet computer ... and its relevant parts - ipads
smartphone ... and its relevant parts - iphones

Based on the new icon leak I think the bezels are gonna be quite thicker, and I think the 23 is going to be introduced as a new display size between 21.5 and 27 (at least for the time being)

at the end of all my question is still: only one model will be introduced on 22nd. which one?

NEW iMac Pro?
iMac 27" Update (due to the loooong BTO on internet)
NEW iMac 23"?

probably i miss something but are there some leaks that address to one of the above computer?....

27 inch, I think. A 23 inch would not help the poor availability of 27 inch. iMac Pro will likely come with a miniLED that is not available yet.

Apple could also add new entries to the eurasian db this week.

Is it true that the W2200 chip are so "cheap". A 18C cost $1333 according to anandtech. If so what is the point of having two lines of 27 inch? W2200 scales much better than the Comet lake chips.

Next iMac Pro should come with Mini-LED in Q4 2020 or Q1 2021. I don't expect any information about this at WWDC.

It is not a given: back in 2017 the IMP was introduced at WWDC and sold by late December. Same for the MP 6,1 and almost the same for 7,1.

Yeah it's true but iMac Pro is not a brand new product anymore and maybe a announcement alongside a iMac refresh could prevent some users to buy the 2020 27" iMac. Well, fortunately we'll see what happens in a few days haha

No way. Unless they are using a 5700M variant and the 10900 or 10900T. However I can’t see them stepping down in power for a new design. Even for Apple.

Sure, I agree. But they did something like this with the mini, as well. It has been almost three years that the IMP has been left ageing. It may require a more sophisticated presentation, especially if they want to introduce the mini-LED screens with it.

Some up to date info on current models shipping delays in Canada:

iMacs:
21" stock: 2 days
21" BTO: 1 week

27" stock: 4-5 weeks
27" BTO: 5-6 weeks

iMac Pro:
Stock: 3 days
BTO: 2 weeks

so there's second ballot between 27" and 23"....

Considering that apple registered ONLY ONE computer.... cannot be both...
and if 27" as long time for shipping i've two ideas:

1) apple decide to use only one iMac and will be 24" and only one 27inch and will be "in future" the iMac PRO
or
2) apple will update only 27" iMac and rebate the actual 21inch

I don't know what could be more likely...

thank you!

in Italy same date!

but is very strange that apple update ONLY one iMac.... 21" or 27"..... instead of introduce a new iMac (24" perhaps) and sell 21 and (new) 24 taking for the future the 27 ONLY for iMAC PRO.....

Model numbers are re-used at times across years:

So you can't read too much into it apart from the fact there will be 1 new desktop computer.

I agree about it being different as there was no iMac Pro when they announced it ahead of time. But I can see a strong possibility that the new iMac will outpace the ageing iMac Pro, so Apple could say what is coming to prevent confusion, maybe even suspending sales until the new model arrives.

you take That September date away Good sir, I need a new computer now and iMac 27 is still sold out. They won’t stop shipping for a quarter of a year.

[automerge]1592207409[/automerge]
Aperently a Chin less Mac image has been found in iOS beta. Might as well be the xdr

No September for me for me, either, DrRadon. :D I'm desperate for a new iMac with substantial power and killer design.

I'm climbing the walls without my beloved Mac. :/

They've sold out of 27s by the sound of it. And the only time the iMac ever had a supply problem was when, under Jobs, they 'ran out' before the new model was introduced.

Sexy. XDR all the way!!!

I'd be very happy with that.

When I saw 1st saw the XDR, I just thoughts, 'That would make a killer iMac.' It's got a stand. It's got modern design language. And it's pointing forward, display tech' wise (and the display is the iMac's killer feature...)

I mean. Use that design and a million is the least you're going to sell. Design wise, Mac Pro and XDR are the best thing Apple have done design wise since the original Bauhaus G5 Tower. So borrowing the XDR design for the iMac is a 'shoe in.'

I'd be shocked at the 14" MBP so quickly after the 13" update.

They did 'do' the iPad 3 buyers with an iPad 4 that blew it away half a year later. *(I bought the iPad 3...)

Imma take a minor bump, all I need is a new Ma for 4K editing that dos not make me feel like a dork by paying 4200€ on a machine that was released more than a year ago.

Dr. If you're paying 4200E then you want more than a 'minor' bump for your hard earned money.

You deserve the best. :)

And it looks like...you're going to get it. ;)

So how about...
iMac 21.5 stays till 24 inch arrives later this year.
27 iMac will become a full iMac Pro line at WWDC.

That would make sense.

I'm ok with that. IF it makes teh 27 inch iMac the truly transformative iMac it needs to be to replace the tower range it replaced.

I have predicted this consolidation. And it makes sense. The entry tiers of the new iMac will consume the performance tiers of the 8 core iMac Pro.

Just have a range of options from the i9 right up to Xeons. It's not that hard to have two different motherboards. The old Mac Tower did that at times.

Keep the paint, cooling, display and sound systems common. Just differentiation the Mobo, cpu and gpu.

The RDNA+1 stack and the RDNA2 stack have enough scale to cover an iMac 27 inch range from £2000-£5k+

In fact, a properly consolidated iMac 'Pro' has the scale to cover many 'instant' plug and play workstation territory.

Have you seen an XDR display in person? Still yet to see one myself :(

Please calm down, Azrael.

I hope WWDC doesn't disappoint you Azrael... :)

Lol.

I hope so too, krell100.

I don't want to be 'ready to jump from that Mac viaduct...' ('It's all OVER....no iMac at WWDC...I CAN'T go ON...')

I'm pretty confident the iMac is coming at WWDC. Just a vibe I have. All the rumours and leaks. It's just too many now. People with reasonable records. All the press are going on about the iMac getting an update and the youtube sites are ablaze with the iMac getting one. And the vibe in the community wants this iMac.

People 'in the know' have been given the 'nod.'

It's also because it's been so long, really. 12 years since a truly substantial design upgrade. And...

The big clue to me...was the Mac Pro and XDR. As soon as I saw that. I thought it was 'on' for an iMac redesign.

That and the weird eGamer Mac rumour said that something was afoot.

Azrael.
