I am at the late 2015 model so still going strong for me. Since it already has a 5k Display other than upgrading the specs and having less bezel on it, I am unsure what Apple could do to improve it.

Sure upgrading the CPU in Macs is apples go to card but I’m sure they could do a well received update by just improving thermals, CPU’s in desktop seem fine and I assume you wouldn’t notice that much difference in the 10th gen? Maybe they could just lower price on the i9 CTO configuration some and improve thermals and it would almost be as effective as the 10th gen? I’m just wishing and speculating here. :)

Intel is **** now. I dont see any hopes from them since they are not improving their weakness and right now, AMD is taking the market.

How often do you move windows around that this is an important purchase decision? ;-)

All the time, to be honest.

I bought a 27" 1920x1080 display and the window resizing drove me nuts so I sent it back and bought a 2560x1440 display so the dimensions would be the same.

You might be right in that Apple will not make one but the market really miss a computer for the the audio people that want a Mac but that doesn’t need a Mac Pro.

A number of those folks went with the iMac Pro and are quite happy based on their reports.

I actually would have considered the iMac Pro but since it’s three years old I feel a bit hesitant to buy it now, maybe we’ll see an update this year and I hope it either gets a few inches of screen size or that they maybe release a new screen size for it that isn’t too close to the Mac Pro pricing. But we’ll see! the i9 iMac is also tempting but I have a feeling I should wait a few weeks before ordering a new one.
I’m glad Apple lets you return it if it isn’t satisfying your needs, that way I don’t have to overbuy. :)

Latest rumors are a new iMac Pro coming this Fall with a 27" display using miniLED backlighting (so probably will have HDR through local dimming). Intel has released a CPU upgrade so that should be part of the update and it should have a new TB3 controller to support the Pro Display XDR at native 6K.

Nice, as long as there is height adjustment as the screen is too far from the desk. Monitor ergonomics say the top of the screen should be at eye level. The iMac is already too high for that in my case, and almost certainly for many others as I am around average height. This looks even worse in that regard. People who want it higher can user a riser, those who want it lower are stuck, hence the consistent request for height adjustment.

Essentially there is no sense what they are called. Building theories about names is a waste of time.
It can be viewed as deeper than that. Marketing is huge to Apple, and understanding how they may wish to market these things is a key to understanding how their product lineups will evolve.

They’re not going to make a product that they can’t market. They won’t make it enthusiastically, at least.

I agree and I often feel like I'm the only one who feels this way. I see people's iMacs in YouTube videos and they use risers so that the bottom of the screen is like a foot off the desk. I don't know why that's popular. I don't want to be craning my neck up to look at the screen. Adjustable height doesn't seem like it's asking for too much but sadly I'm not expecting it, no matter what the new design is.

I used to have my iMac on a riser and I had to look way up to view the top part of the screen. I hated it and I also don’t understand why it’s popular. I guess maybe because I’m fairly short at 5’8”? But the way it is now, I personally find the iMac at the perfect height. Of course that said, I wouldn’t object to an adjustable height stand but given that the current Pro Display stand cost $1000, I wonder how they’d implement that feature in the next iMac without breaking the bank.

I’d love a modern take on the iMac G4 with a fully adjustable arm. As another approach, I thought about having multiple slots for attaching the leg in a vertical array, with the unused slots designed to act as cooling vents.

that is so damn ugly - i never understand these mockups (except Hajek) as they seem to miss all the basic design language Apple has.
Sure, reduce the bezel and yet leave the chin unchanged creating a s hitty visual language.
And XDR stand like? Really? Who designs this? It should be noted that Apple would never do such things. Lol, people are lazy

Could it be? I still feel strongly that we will see them soon, even though covid2019 happened.

I often think a bit more vertical screen estate would be nice. But that would **** up the ergonomics. Idk if there's a solution to that basic dilemma

While the slightly more geometric look is quite attractive, I don't imagine they'd use their $1,000 stand for an iMac. And the chin would look weird when viewed in portrait. Not to mention it seems unrealistically thin.

The utilitarian aesthetic of the Mac Pro has grown on me though, so if they move in that direction a bit I wouldn't be unhappy.

that is beautiful, I read the article and omg I love it.
The question is, does Apple love it too & is the marketing talk the same as reality?

Anyway, if this indeed is coming then I guess WWDC iMac is not happening and we have to wait till October event.
Now with the WFH thing I would really love Apple to come up with update sooner rather than later as I need an extra computer for my partner. :)

Now I want Apple to release the new iMac in October, fully AMD powered:

Please Apple, give us the biggest performance leap in the history of all iMacs ?

Ughhh still 27" -- the computing world is moving to bigger and wider monitors
I guess I am going to have to go into debt to get the 32" XDR

Speaking only for myself, I don't want to lose Retina so I'm willing to stay with 27" 5K.

I don't want to lose Retina either, so, unless the enlarge the iMac/iMac Pro's scree real estate and maintain it as Retina, I will be forced to buy the XDR

Interesting point as I hadn't really thought about the Apple Pro display 6k 32" XDR monitor. It's also 218PPI

And so is the 5k panel in the 27" iMac Pro and the 27" iMac.

The 21.5" 4k iMac is 219ppi.

That just strengthens my opinion that a 24" 218/219ppi Retina panel - 4608x2592 fits neatly in the gap between 21.5" and 27".

This is actually a 16:9 4.6K panel size.
