Would be fun to see them suggest when iMac should appear if not at WWDC. Don't think the writer knows more than us.

Yes. It was a pretty broad brush statement using the 'primarily' bottom wriggle.

The 27 inch iMac is pretty much out of inventory. So it's pretty much a given as the new A designation Mac has already cropped up as a pending 'new' Mac.

The laptops, even the forelorn mini (and '6 year' Mac Pro...) have all head updates. The iMac is overdue. And the one model that is stocked out is the iMac 27 incher. It's old. Leggy. Tired. The flagship mainstream Mac. And it needs updating. The cpus are there. The gpu is a year old. SSDs have been available for the last 8 years... :p

It's also the one model that hasn't really had a significant overall design change in 11 years.

8 year old fusion sake.
paltry 8 gigs of ram.
3 year old Polaris.
6 core cpu. Shrugs. Get that on any PC under £1k. 8-12 core is now where it is at.
Oil tanker bezels.
Limited height adjust.
Sorry cooling.
Hair dryer fans.

So yeah, I think the writer. He don't know his elbow from his...az(rael.)

iMac update:

Apple=Tidwell.
Customer=Jerry.

Are you dissing my 6-core Mac mini? HOW DARE YOU!!!!

I suspect the 27in models will be 6 and 8-core, with a BTO 10-core i9. Then maybe 5500/5600 with a BTO 5700 model?

'Rebuke' of Apple's prices for accessing '6' core more like. They're sub-£1k machines. ;) Apple used to offer iMacs with screens and keyboards and performance for less than £1k.

Your 6 core Mac Mini is respectable (bar the iG.) ...and it will outperform my quad core iMac by some margin. But then, my iMac is dead...

The 6, 8 and 10 core cpus will be noticeable on single and multicore work loads for anyone with an 'old' machine. For 3d rendering, going from my quad core to 8 or ten core will...tickle my fancy. (Drools at quicker cinebench rendering...)

I think the addition of SSD and particularly, the GPU will provide greater performance boosts. Intel's single core performance and core additions have been pretty plodding. I'm measuring my wow factor over 8 years. Any machine 'should' be significantly faster after all that time.

If you kept your Mini for back up...or to help network render (with those 6 cores added to the 10 core iMac...you'd have a nice set up...) and upgraded to the iMac 27 incher. If you went for the 10 core and the 5700? You'd notice...depending on work task and overall system smoothness.

It depends on the machine you are coming from. I notice many 'upgraders' are coming from 2012-2015. They've had their use of the machine and it's 'time.' The machine tends to feel that bit slower...it's lost it's zip, software is slowing it down...the boot takers longer... And in my case, I was never that impressed with my iMac's resolution.

My own fault. I should have waited for the 5k iMac that shipped a year later.

I wanna see Tim Cook saying "this is the least powerful mac we've ever built. Look how it is outperformed by the model we have just discontinued". :D

You say dat...

...but...

Remember when they pulled the quad core option for the dual core updated Mini? :O

:p (I could actually take them doing that over comparing the 'latest' gpu or tech' compared to a 6 year or 4 year old machine that hadn't been updated since time began...) :p

You jest...but we've had side grade gpu updates on the iMac before now... ;)

New topic for today, boys - CPUs.

The proper 10th gen CPUs (10600k/700k/900k) are all 125w parts right? Up from the previous 95w parts. An iPad Pro style design has me very worried for cooling, unless they make it at least 2 inches thick, which they won't due to aesthetics...

But... surely they won't dip down to all 65w parts?

Well they could make the thing two inches thick to cool Intel / AMD parts and then slim it up once the ARM CPUs arrive.

Honestly, the 65W parts are not that bad - especially for "general purpose" tasks - so I could see them in the "24" model if that is the one that has the new 'iPad Pro" design (because it would be the model that would eventually transition to ARM).

"Ahead of WWDC 2020 officially kicking off on Monday, a new report from Bloomberg today offers a broader look at what to expect. The report explains that hardware such as a new Apple TV and HomePod will be saved for later this year, with WWDC focusing primarily on new software."

Well HomePod and AppleTV make sense to update at an iPhone event ( I believe they had done so in the past) so I can see those being pushed until September.

But Apple to my knowledge has never released Mac hardware at an iPhone launch event, so still feel confident it will be revealed on Monday.

...and they did offer the Mac Pro with it's entry model for £6k...with specs that even Steve Jobs wouldn't have had the 'face' to front for those apology specs.

So, in that sense, the Mac Pro is a massive backstep to have a crepe spec for nearly 3 times the price.

An 8 core machine for £6k? That will buy you 3x £2k 'new' iMacs. 8 cores each. That's 24 cores. 3 5k displays. 3 SSD drives. 48 gigs of ram between them.

At the least, I'd rather gusping's 6 core Mini. ;) It's better value.

That's exactly what they will do.

I'll be on their site the second it reopens

Well said.... you'll be...the second. :D As I would have already bought the first one. I think I won't be following the keynote. I will just repeatedly and blindly be clicking on the "buy" button. :D

This is exactly what I warned here about TB3 and eGPU a few days ago, and it has already begun.

I agree. In the MP 7,1 thread I kept saying it for ages and it was full of "experts" saying that it wouldn't saturate TB3. Honestly, I think that a good GPU would saturate even TB4.

I never thought I'd see the day Azrael said something positive about my Mac mini!!!!! Instant mood boost <3

I slag it off, but for me. I don't need any more power. Will I consider a more powerful iMac if they are a true update? Of course :p

I don’t have any conputer at the moment. Pictures and videos are waiting to be edited in cameras. I need them to be available right tomorrow. Anything else means that I’m buying something used and will then buy a refreshed model next year.

It took 10 minutes for my mid 2011 to boot up today. Holding on for a few more days...
My mid 2011 base model is still fast after all these years. Installed an extra 750 GB SSD and turned the SSD and HDD into a 1.25 TB fusion drive some five years ago.
Editing 4K video isn't smooth however, so I will be replacing my iMac this year. It will be cleaned and stored next to my 1998 Bondi Blue and 2002 G4 "iLamp".

I am amazed you can edit 4k at all. My 2012 iMac (21.5)just sees premiere Pro crash constantly. Like, almost seconds into trying to do anything with the footage.
But yeah. It's actually good enough with an SSD unless you want to game or have some heavy duty tasks. Never saw a reason to replace my iMac till i hit 4k editing as a business necessity.

Good job! I wish I’d kept my old indigo DV+

Mark Gurman:

“The software updates will set the stage for a range of new hardware devices also launching this year, including a new Apple Watch, four redesigned iPhones, the new HomePod and Apple TV box, as well as updates to the iMac and MacBook Pro. The company also plans its first pair of over-ear headphones as well as an accessory for finding physical objects, which will integrate with the new software.”

So just minor update to the iMac?

A scary story while we wait... My SO has used various Macbooks for about 15 years. A few weeks ago I realized she didn't know that you can use two fingers to scroll through pages

She's been manually selecting and dragging the side thingy when scrolling. For 15 years!

This is honestly one of the craziest things I've ever heard
