I and many other artists I know think the Apple Pencil is leagues better than Wacom tablets. Wacom’s lag can be pretty bad. I know a good number of people who have wacoms collecting dust and prefer the iPad Pro. An iMac that like the ms studio would be an instant buy for a lot of artists.

different opinions I guess, no one I know doing either graphic design or CG uses an iPad Pro and pencil for their daily work, and they all seem to have pretty positive opinions of the Wacom stylus.

I think we maybe get a redesigned 27“ IMac Soon and in two years a 27“ iMac Witz silicon Chip.

Greetings

We might get a redesigned 24-inch this year or early next year to replace the 21.5-inch, and a 32-inch one late next year to replace the 27-inch.

200 pages!!!!!!!!!! Not sure if I should be depressed, laughing or both.

200 pages... just us speculating IF Apple with FINALLY come through THIS YEAR and give us a major redesign to our system of choice!!! Amazing, huh? I haven't looked, but I would assume there are threads this long on MacRumors for every year during the past decade, wondering "Is this finally the year?"

All I can say is, if iMac on ARM is as promising as it looks, it was worth the wait! And I'm totally alright with cutting the Intel umbilical cord and moving to AS on all of my systems. It's way past time to be off Intel's architecture! I've worked on their chip since the days of the 8086. (Yeah, I'm that old. But I was a KID then!)

I guess all of you who plays games on bootcamp or macos that are based on x86 will be pissed , or you think rosetta 2 will be enough?!

I’m willing to ditch Boot Camp for a clean, slim, and slick iMac with Apple Silicon. I’m already looking forward to Steam Cloud Play and I’ve been playing with the beta on GeForce Now. It’s pretty good except for the fact that it doesn’t support surround sound. The Nvidia Shield does support surround sound however. And I’d anything, I can buy a mid range gaming laptop, or get an Intel Macbook Air or Mac mini with an eGPU. It certainly isn’t the end of the world and I have options.

But in the end, I’ll be ok with Boot Camp going away if it means Apple can make Macs with Apple Silicon super efficient and powerful.

A thread just opened up on shipping times for the 27" imac. The strain is beginning to show :)

There isn't many shops left in the UK with stock; and two other major sellers only have the 2TB left in online stock.

Unless something has gone wrong that we don't know about then I think the strong likelihood is a release in the next fortnight. For the 4 weeks ahead I'd say 40,30,20,10%.

Actually a 24 inch replacement would be very welcomed. It will certainly attract people who couldn’t afford a 27” model but found the 21” too small. Hopefully Apple can price it somewhat affordable despite it being larger and a new form factor.

They probably use the fully specd Mac Pros :p did see that a couple session vids had a Mac Pro running the stuff

Yes, we all know that if you work in 3D you earn 10x compared to 2D designers... :D

I don't understand how Apple could introduce a 27" intel iMac first and later a 24" AS iMac. It would be quite confusing.
Plus, it would be the first time that a mac model gets updated in two different time slots.

Are we really sure about this? (please, don't answer. Some in this forum can't get rhetorical questions... :D )

Navi3 cards came up in Big Sur's code... are them for intel macs or will they be used by AS macs as well? Navi3 is well ahead in time. We're talking late next year.

Couldn't it be that the new intel macs in the next two years will be only the IMP and MP? I do agree with all of you on the likeliness of seeing a new intel 27" but then I would expect the 24" to follow aside. (or vice versa)

The iMac is iconic... I doubt it will be the last or one of the last to get an AS.
The most urgent to update would be the IMP... and I would expect it to sport an intel for now.

You don’t have to look far back to see a Mac model get updated in two different time slots. The 16” MBP was released last year, then the 13” updated this year.

I can see Intel models that have not seen an update in a while getting updated. The iMac is at the top of that list. There will be people who want to stay on Intel for as long as possible, but don’t want to buy outdated equipment. There can be no complaints of comparing new AS models to outdated Intel if they do that. Apple will want to show advantages over the latest Intel has to offer.

You are right. I realised it as soon as I sent my message :D

However, it never happened for the iMac afaik.

Anyway, if it has to be, I think it makes sense only if you change the lower specced first. It would be embarrassing for Apple to have a 7th gen CPU aside an AS model. Instead, the 9th gen can still hold till the end of the year. By the time Intel comes out with Rocket Lake (11th gen, Q1Q2 2021), that's going to be the final trigger to switch to an AS 27", if they didn't before.

I saw an article this morning showing testing mac os on iphone. if that's true, now I would think anything is possible for what Apple has in mind across the board. They seem to be throwing everything at the wall to see what sticks.

It shows that there is still strong interest in the desktop market. hope Apple takes note.

Not saying there isn't, but this thread is hardly an indicator because it's basically the same 10 people rambling on for months

Yeah, I'm pretty sure they know how little the iMac and other desktop systems sell, and if they sold more they would have pushed the new iMac out already. Controversial opinion, I know...

I don't think so. In Covid times iPad and iMacs sell probably really well. Its no surprise that iPad and iMac are pretty much sold out for weeks and are severely constraint. So Apple is in no rush and now that AS was announced etc. Apple is waiting for a good timing to introduce the Intel Macs Tim told us about.

Covid, BLM etc. all messed up Apple's schedule.

I am interested about prices changes tomorrow here in Germany.
The government cut the VAT from 19% to 16% spanning from July till the end of December.
On these larger iMacs that would be a noticeable saving.
I am expecting to pay 4000-4500€ so thats a solid 120€ - 135€ discount. Ad to that another 5% the vendor i am buying at promised i am looking pretty much at getting final cut for "free" or getting some extra SSD space or RAM in the machine.
With the common opinion going around that Apple dos not "pay" taxes anyway i, however, wonder if they will just pocked the 3% and keep their price structure intact.

They can't pocket the difference. They would have to raise the price which I doubt they would do for this.
In the past the prices always got cheaper when this happened (UK had the same around 2008 or so)

I was wondering where he's been hiding, too! I hope his Mac didn't die on him, and he finally went over to the 'dark side' (Windows). I miss his thought-provoking musings.
Yeah, maybe he went and bought a PC or signed up for the ARM dev program, or just bought an OS enabled iphone prototype and called it a day.

There's not a single stock config iMac available in all of BC Canada, and much of Canada for that matter... Shipping is 5 - 6 weeks for every configuration.

Guys, do I have to say the same every page? Shipping times mean nothing - iPad Pro is facing the same delays and we are not going to get a refresh soon. So please stop using that as indication.
Once iPad Pro is available and iMac is still delayed maybe then we can talk about it. Until then its pointless :)

Ship times for the iMac are now 5-6 weeks for some configurations.
