*nods. I thought so.

It's only behind the 'non gaming' Vega stuff which were compute monsters or the 'dual' gpu card.

That IS impressive. And it's in an iMac.

It's quite simple. If you run this (or any other computer on the edge...) you will get 'some' level of acoustic noise.

Unless it's a Mac Pro which costs £6k just to get into the club. Or the iMac Pro. The cooling of which should have been ported over to this level of performance.

Azrael.

Your reviews of this last* Intel iMac have been super useful, Azrael! It's a shame about the cooling but the general performance seems like we're at least going out with a bit of bang, which is welcome news :) I'm looking forward to Apple Silicon and will definitely upgrade/get a Macbook in the next few years but I'm happy to actually be able to get back into making things again with this beast. We're on the dawn of something extremely special!

Exciting. I only play Warcraft 3 Reforged which I assume is even less demanding but my 2017MBP can't really keep up with most settings on high so I switch everything to classic and that is fine. (it could also be the fact that I have 24" monitor extra so the laptop drives this as main monitor + its own internal one so could be a factor also.
Still, 2017 MBP can't really do Reforged graphics so this is good news.

To be fair. The 5500XT could probably do this in its sleep.

This is beyond stupid.

Apple now switched from "nono, that money has been released right after initial blocking it" to "nono, this has been overcharged, and you only get that money when the full order has been delivered" wich in essence means that i need to pay this iMac twice, and than, after it's been delivered, i get the initial 4000€ back... seven days after it has been released.
THEY canceled the ONE iMac i ordered and reordered it. It's their mistake. And they can't do jack do fix it because "the system won't allow this". Are you fn kidding.

This is a complete gong show.

Unfortunately, they are correct. Once a system does charge you then the refund takes a while. As frustrating as it sounds almost all vendors have this and it can't be sped up. I feel you man - I know its frustrating and I know its super annoying BUT count yourself lucky. Not only you are in a position to be able to 'purchase' such expensive item twice but you are probably lucky enough to even weather this storm with breeze. Most people are not this fortunate and most people can't even afford to pay this machine once so take the best out of it and look at it as one of your life's accomplishments.
Mistakes happen and if Apple (or any vendor) is offering reimbursement or some form of apology that is fairly adequate to the situation then we should always accept it and move passed it. I'm sure you are not perfectc (none of us are) so just take a deep breath and tell yourself that its being sorted now and this will be a thing of the past in few days.

There are worse things in life and its important to kinda step back sometimes.

Get the discount from them and accept that someone on the other end made a mistake. It happens to all of us.

It will be ok in few days. Just try to see the positive - you get the iMac with a discount so in the end that offset certain upgrade, right?

They are not refunding anything. This is not a refund in process.

The money gets released when the entire order is canceled (meaning i drop down further in the supply chain and my AirPods are send back).
OR
When the full order has been fulfilled. Meaning i have to "pay" for the second iMac, get it delivered... and THEN they will start releasing the money for the first iMac wich THEY canceled because of "old parts".

I can't afford to pay this machine twice.

Interesting - I went from expected ~Sept 10th to "good news!" and my iMac is arriving on Aug 27th! I got the fancy nano screen, too, which I had wondered was delaying my shipment. ;)

I feel for you but this is not an impossible situation, if you just cancel, release the funds and reorder, you will get what you want with the money you have, you would just have to wait a little longer - that seems like your grievance at this point, which isn't the end of the world, no? You were wronged, for sure, out of your control but...things happen sometimes.

Thanks, Dosing, mate.

I've tried to be honest, fair and critical. It's a lot of money to me and other Mac buyers. I hope it helps you or anyone else thinking about buying one.

I'm not going to inflate this iMac. It is what it is. The last or legacy iMac. It comes with last breath glory and several caveats that go with it.

This iMac IS going out with a bang. (Anybody who has seen my tooth ache style ramblings without my iMac...will know I've waited a long time for this. Not the only one, either. And I've wanted a gpu of this standard in an iMac for a long time...and this all round level of value and performance.)

If you just want a tier 1, 2 or 3? You're in for a dramatic surprise. Coming from a 2012 iMac? I've seen at least a 400% rise in cpu (if that's not enough, complain to Intel...) and a 1000% rise in gpu (if that's not enough, see AMD...) and a turbo charged SSD that is lightning quick.

I'm looking forward to Apple Silicon. But I and others need a machine that works 'now.'

Others will have to seek their own Mac counsel.

This iMac can 3d, game and video in its sleep.

The holy trinity. I knew...one day...it would come.

Azrael.

Lucky, my window was eligible to be here starting tomorrow and still sitting at processing so, at lease someone is getting it. This will be the first Apple delivery window I don't have day 1, odd - I would have thought one of the iPhones would have been a likelier candidate.

Yes. The cooling is a sour point. But let's be reasonable. We're talking about a 10 core and 5700XT in a 'razor' think enclosure.

It doesn't absolve Apple from putting in iMac Pro style cooling. That was a poor omission.

They still haven't sorted it out?

What's going on?

Hiding behind 'the system.'

Frustrating to anyone who is on the receiving end of this.

Dr. Radon is trying to be a customer and they're giving him the system treatment?

I have a Bussines. I made promises with this computer to arrive this week. It's crazy apple delays it by up to three weeks and now i am supposed to delay it even further... no. I needed this computer month ago. I was this close to finally just ordering the old one. This is not fun and games "oh well **** happens". I need this machine to earn money.

I also have business, actually 2 LLCs, and 2 more non profits I manage directly. First rule (or one of) of business is never put all eggs in one basket and make commitments that have the risk of running afoul. It's a computer - you can have a new one tomorrow if you wanted. Whatever the task is, there's a mac that could do it today if needed. Sorry, that's BS. You wanted what you wanted, when you wanted it I get it, but frankly it's not the end of the world. Yes, **** happens.

I agree with Fireguy on this one. If you relied on a computer that hasn't even been delivered than that was very bad 'un-business like' decision on your end. What would you do if the computer arrived DOA? What would you do if the UPS guy damaged it etc.? You simply cannot rely on these things especially when you run a business. So this is just you ranting and being unreasonable! Nothing else.

Cancel the order (now that I think I understand it better), reorder it again with the discount that you were promised (if its still available) and get on with it.
Crap happens and unfortunately it sucks when it happens to you but at the end of the day, you can spend days whining about it OR you can be real business man and find a solution. How long have you been in business that you are not prepared for these situations?

My company (for example) is 2-3 years behind on software (Maya in this case) as we can't afford to lose time and discover new issues when we are in such crazy productions. So when new Maya is released, the company tests it for extensive period of time etc. pipeline gets prepared ect. We are still 'stuck' on 2018 version even though there is 2020 already that has tons of benefit for my profession already and I would cut waiting time by 20-30% and yet we still don't have it implemented. It just would be a disaster if they switched to new software and it wasn't production ready.
Same goes for your iMac. You shouldn't count on something that you haven't even received and tested. Its just not very smart and as bad as it sounds its probably a good lesson to be better prepared next time.
Did Apple mess up? Absolutely, I'm on your side here. Did you make a mistake by relying on it? Absolutely! However, the best you can do now is to solve the problem and get some benefits from it in the process (discount, free upgrade etc.).

SH i t happens man. Just learn, solve, improve - the best strategy you can take out of this.

I hope it will be smooth sail from now on for you as I know these things are a drag (and good party topics when bored :)) ) but lets hope there won't be any obstacles and you will be good to go super shortly.

Fingers crossed for you ;-)

Well, I hope things get sorted for you, FireGuy286 and the good Dr. Radon.

Azrael.

Fun Fact while I do 'moonlight' as volly FF, fireguy286 is in reference to the 286 processor, and my failed lab attempts many many moons ago of burning one up while trying to overclock it...for science. So everytime we talk about hot iMacs I assure you it can be worse! LOL.

I'm noticing very subtle and quick blips on the screen. I think others have mentioned similar artifacts. Like a 5" or 6" line that is very thin, and flashes white for an instant. It's maybe happened three times over the last 4 hours, so nothing major. But I have noticed it. Very odd, hopefully a firmware update takes care of it. no performance issues related to it.

And wow Dr. Radon that seems like an absolute ordering nightmare.

Azrael I agree on all points, it's an amazing machine that I have waited years for. Great performance and a killer GPU relatively speaking for this class of machine..... and I just wish it got better cooling. It's like a nagging thought. I actually enjoy the physical design, but it still nags at me occasionally.

You go for it, Krazzix.

:)

anthony13. I hear you.

The icing on the cake would have been the cooling. It's a nagging thought.

I do like the physical design with 5k retina. It's a thing of beauty. Eye balm. RzoOR sharp.

Yes. Those blips...a firmware fix..?

But this machine? Killer performance. No mere 'spec bump.'

This is the bringer.
