So Cinebench isn't affected. But Geekbench is? I guess 'this' advice from 9 to 5 Mac and you lose your dual channel speed?

ie. it has to be 1 and 3 (dual.)

2 and 4 (dual.)

yeah remove the apple ram your losing duel channel and losing massive speed. you need one 16 stick in Channel A and 1 16 gig stick in Cannel B

So either have slot 1 and 3 or 2 and 4

I'll go and have a 'play'.

'Back Soon.'

yes thats how duel channel works and what i been trying to tell you lol.

the highest i got in cinebench was 5700 but seems Ram is not a big deal for that one (cinebench is just the CPU) while in geekbench the ram and duel channel/your RAM speed matter.

@Azrael9 i would do 1 and 3 just like how the imac came with the apple ram

I've been aware of dual channel RAM in the past. I remember reading a lot about it in the AMD cpu days. But it was like some arcane mystery for me. Until you see the effects of it in practice.

Reading about something and 'doing it' (oo-er...) are two different things. This is my 1st 'dual channel' bit of playing around. :)

I just tend to think about it as a dual carriage way or a 4 way motorway.

You put cars in 1 and 3.

Or you put cars in 2 and 4.

So you get more cars on the road and they all travel faster.

Apologies to those who hate cars being mentioned in computer threads.

By the way. That RAM access door isn't the 'smoothest.' It's a bit touchy.

Anyway. I can live with 32 gigs of RAM. This system was powerful with just 8 gigs. Now it has four times that amount.

Unigine Heaven.

113 fps. Ultra.

95 degrees. Quiet for a good while. After a while on this the fans began to kick in with their low level 'whrrrrrr.'

Both (!) 2x4 gig Apple RAM sticks in the 1st two slots.
Both (!) 2x16 gig Crucial RAM sticks in the last two slots.

I quote: 'Your Mac contains 4 memory slots, each of which accepts a 2667 MHz DDR4 memory module. All memory slots are currently in use.'

Azrael.

People that did the benchmarks in some topic on here said that you loose significant benchmark points if you don't dual chanel the ram.

Yes, Dr. My multi-score was down to 5k+ in Geek Bench...but the Cinebench, strangely, didn't seem affected.

Fitting them dual-channel, essential to maximise performance.

I had a bunch of stuff open though.

32GB Ram, 4x 8GB Crucial.

I just sold the original 8GB to some lucky other 2020 iMac owner for €18.
He must be glad to just save almost 14x that amount.

Still Processing the first day of the delivery window. Thanks Mr. Logistics, fine tuned machine....

I ordered mine on the 9th. On Azreal's advice I upgraded the GPU to the 5700 on the 10th (which I expected might set me back just a tad). Ten days later, I'm still stuck on "processing". This wait is killing me...

Whoa... That's terrible. Was your configuration unusual in any way? My mother ordered her machine on the 10th and it has already shipped. I wonder which variables make some ship sooner rather than later?

If anyone is selling their original RAM just like this, I'm interested.
