Apple has talent to do events with really nothing amazing. Last few years showed us that almost on regular basis.
Remember the event for AppleTV+? (an example)

I would tend to agree, but then why the event? Last year Magic Keyboard and iPad Pro refreshed dropped as website refresh and I think that was good enough. Why would airtags warrant air time? Maybe Apple is just more ready now than it was a year ago when it comes to digital events but I think that doing too many of them definitely brings format fatigue in the viewers eye (esp. empty ones at that). Don't get me wrong, I love the shots from the Apple HQ BUT half what is said is a tad overdone.

I would love to be wrong as I'm so ready to get the iMac (was since last july if you remember :) ) but it just doesn't seem like the right time.
iPads, Airtags, maybe AppleTV next week. Thats all

iMac later

I don't really see why Apple would have to hold the iMac (and, by extension, the 14" and 16" MBP) to WWDC.

M1X will almost certainly be the M1 with more performance cores and either an additional TB controller or the existing TB controller will now be able to support 4 ports. Graphics could go multiple directions: more on-die GPU cores, an on-package GPU with more cores (Lifuka?) or the 8 on-die GPU cores from the M1 with an external AMD GPU. And we'll see at least 32GB of on-package memory and possibly 64GB. None of that, IMO, needs WWDC.

That they call this event "Spring Loaded" makes me believe it will be a 60-90 minute presentation with a number of product announcements.

I think an iMac launch now would be very smart. Many people are realizing their jobs will be remote forever so they are more likely to commit to home office set ups instead of laptops. Great timing!

That is true but also has been true for past 14 months. And as we saw last year, iMacs were delayed by a bit too so its kinda irrelevant.

With the chip etc. shortages things are just all over. Regardless, no iMacs next week :)

pretty sure we will see at least the 24” iMac For the following reasons:
- the iMac 21,5” has lost the most popular configurations with no more 512 and 1tb ssd options. Who buys 256gb or a fusion-drive?
- the 21,5 did not get updated like the 27” last year.
- just like with the m1 macs, macOS beta mentioned the new products.
- L0vetodream and other leakers mentioned colors for the iMac. Just look at the invite.
- “spring loaded“ probably means a lot of products will be unveiled.
- they will probably show a preview of the AR-glasses at wwdc. unveiling a redesigned iMac together with al that software is going to steal a lot of attention from the glasses.
- the crashlog of an ARM iMac shows the product is ready.

Well, macOS beta can show the code as much as you want but history taught us that this happens often MONTHS ahead of the actual release. Someone here (or in another thread) actually posted a detailed breakdown of the things that were in the code in the past and how long it took to get it out. So, I think on average it was about 5 months or so.
This has been in codes for what? Few weeks? Well, it could be a sign but most likely its not.

The colours on the invite are not related to anything (maybe new cases). As Rene Ritchie mentioned in one of his videos, the marketing team has no clue what is being released so they are only given colour theme direction and thats about it.

Spring loaded is not really telling us that its "loaded" with tons of stuff. Its just to get our attention and that spring is fully here. After all, this is spring event that was meant to be here last month.
And as we also know from the past, those marketing big "words" rarely (if ever) turn into fruition. Those that are expecting tons of stuff will be disappointed.

Again, I would gladly be wrong but I just don't see it.

We shall see in few days but I'm fully ready to be disappointed. Well, actually not as I'm waiting for the iPad Pro to buy and I know the iMac is coming later so I'm fine. Learnt my lesson in the past.

Last few years, these events were usually short on good stuff. The good old days when we get truly amazing events with "one more thing" etc. are long gone.

Having said that, last year WWDC with the AS was good, enjoyed it.

I tend to believe we will see :

Spring - Imac, Ipadpro and possibly appleTV

WWDC - AR announced only as will be an important launch

October - MBP 14 + 16 and possibly a pro desktop Preview.

Most rumours seem to point in this direction and seems realistic.

same! Ah, I even forgot about that TV+ event... Someone at Apple HAS to think those event have become a symbol of empty-ness (which is a shame considering the production value).

Wow... that's even more impressive. I would love to work at Apple but at the same time I would hate to discover the new stuff at the same time as everybody else...

To be fair, he also ended his video with noting "oh god, fruit-colored iMacs are coming again, aren't they?" :)

Actually, the most significant clue for me is the fact that the most popular memory-options are gone. like with most products the middle memory-option is the most popular. Why would they stop offering it?
But we will indeed find out next week. I really hope you are wrong.

I'm taking "spring loaded" to mean **** loads of stuff. iPads, iMacs, Airtags... maybe even MPX Modules (a man can dream).

I think in marketing speak, "spring" also hints at renewal / fresh designs.

This is maybe the only plausible scenario I could see. Release of just 24" iMac.
It would kinda align with the fact that small iMac is still "crappy" device (performance wise) and the big boys (Mac Pro, 27" iMac, 16" MBP) are not here so yeah, this would be the only condition I would think could make sense.
If that happens though then I think we will not see 27" iMac at WWDC but we will see it in the fall this year along with MBP and MAYBE possibly Mac Pro Mini.

That is probably the only scenario I see if iMac is announced next week.

However, I'm not buying it and I think we will get 24 and 30-32 iMacs at WWDC.
Thinking about it more now, I could settle for 24" M1X now and 32" M2X in Fall this year.
The reason is that in order for 27" to be updated Apple has to come out with a GPU that is on par with 5700 minimum and I kinda doubt that we will get that with M1X. It would almost make sense that M1 was AS start on low end computers whilst the M2 will be the big deal this year. If iPhone 13 production will start soon that also tells us that the chip is pretty much ready (A15) and as M2 variants will be based on that and the volume is not as crazy as iPhones it would certainly be feasible to have M2 come before iPhone (ie. WWDC reveal) and have iMac, MBPs out then.

I don't know, I would love the tech come before iPhone so its more spread out and also would like to get earlier rather than wait after iPhone gets it but its too early to understand what will the new cycle with Apple be like.

I really hope we are not keeping the iPad Pro format where you get the tech in A*X chip 6 or so months after the iPhone gets the A* chip.

Have you been watching Max Tech's video? :)

Still not sure we're going to need a honking dGPU in an M-series iMac and 16" MBP at launch. Graphics apps have to be on Metal to work and the M1's GPU already crushes with Metal. Renee Ritchie interviewed the folks at Maxon today who announced that Redshift is being released with full Metal support on Intel and M1.

You can't release an update and have overall performance 'crippled' to just specific apps/tasks.

I know Mac isn't really for gaming but its a good indication for certain things - now, lets look at Dota 2 or other fairly simple games and the mac mini is still not performing that well.
What would be the point of having new iMac when its just very specific.
iMac is often a family computer so it presents overall package to creativity, media, consumption etc.
Cripple the GPU with mediocre part and a lot of people (myself included) will skip on it.

I don't game much but when I do I don't want to have another computer just for that. It would be a waste as I really don't game much these days (work super busy) but its my way to unwind (either a game on iPad or strategic game on a Mac). Currently, I use MBP 2017 attached to a screen which is often loud fans and high heat kinda thing. Want something quiet with amazing screen that can handle productive apps whilst also able to handle light gaming. Apple set the bar with 5700XT which is pretty much 3 years old GPU so that is the bare minimum they really have to match.
Otherwise whats the point of an update? 10TFLops should be kinda what we should get at least on the high end iMac (even if BO option)

Yeah but those are x86 games so they are running under Rosetta. Running x86 graphics applications on Apple Silicon seems counter-productive to me when you could buy an Intel-powered Mac. That being said, evidently the M1 MacBook Air runs Dota 2 under Rosetta far better than the Intel MacBook Air runs it natively.

I plan to run native Apple Silicon apps on my Apple Silicon iMac and based on reports about the first-gen M1 machines, graphics performance with native apps is exceptional.

I'm all up for it. I just want to see real world results on the apps I use. Benchmarks to me are kinda pointless but I feel positive about it so yeah, as long as it had around 10Tflops I'll be happy :)

I've found the post where the breakdown was. Here it is to hopefully put it to bed about the codes

Are you sure about that? Here's a specific timestamp from the video that was posted earlier.

He only mentions Airpods Max and Touch Bar. M1 Macs as said in the video were spotted just 11 days before introduction.
