Right, I see. I thought you wanted just that. Now if you get the 32" iMac then yeah, that makes sense.
For me, as soon as 32" iMac (or so) is out, I'll finally get rid of this junk 15" MBP and never look back.
I have 12.9" iPad Pro on order as I use iPad quite a lot.
I will either sell the 2017 MBP or will give it to my partner so we don't have to share now. :)

Will see. Lets hope it arrives before xmas :)

For a portable, not so much. I had the original 12.9" iPad Pro and found it too large, so I went down to the 10.5" iPP when it was launched. When the 11" and slimmer 12.9" launched in 2018, I intended to get the 11", but the 12.9" being only 2" larger made it easier to hold and lighter than the original 12.9" model so I bought it because I did prefer the larger screen.

As for the MBP, that was given to me by work as a farewell gift (it was out of warranty and they ordered a new model for my replacement). I intended to get the 2021 12.9" iPad Pro when it launched, but I find I really prefer macOS to iPadOS so I honestly would rather have a Mac than an iPad. And the 14" with MiniLED will only be an inch larger than the 12.9" iPad Pro.

For desktops, screen real-estate is everything, which is why I cannot go from 27" to 24" even though the new iMac 4.5K is otherwise perfect for me and I'd love one in Purple. So I wait for the 32" model.

You say the 14" is only an inch larger, but it may be less in terms of screen area. MacBook Pros are 16:10 and iPads are 4:3. The squarer an aspect ratio is, the more surface area you get for the diagonal length.

Well I just watch videos and Twitch on my iPad mostly, anyway, so it should still work out. :)

Maybe Apple will surprise us and make iPadOS 15 more flexible and powerful and then I might decide to get a 2021 iPad Pro 12.9.

So less than 24 hours and rumors continue to contradict themselves on whether or not new Macs on a more powerful Apple Silicon SoC will be announced or not.

Clearly, any launch announcement will depend most on whether or not Apple has the new SoC ready and, if they do, is TSMC able to build it in sufficient quantities to support a launch within a matter of weeks of WWDC.

If nothing else, I hope they at least talk about what the new SoC will be called so we can at least put that argument to rest. :)

Seriously, I do think we might get information about what "Jade2C" and "Jade4C" will entail as if they are not just massive single-die SoCs, but instead are multiple SoCs using an interconnect mesh, I would expect Apple will want to talk about how to program for the latter assuming new instructions.

Well, looks like we are not getting any hardware today. Apple Store is still up so I guess Lovetodream might be correct on this.

Previewing a chip would be cool but un-Apple-like. They would want to show product, not a spec from a chip.

So, lets hope the software today is worth it and we get all the good stuff in fall.

They did mention Apple Silicon at WWDC 2020 and how it would be used in Macs going forward, even if they did not go into the technical details until the official M1 launch event. So now that it's a thing, they could talk about it at WWDC. But maybe we have to wait until the Fall for a formal Mac Event.

Thats true but it was very vague and I think they just wanted to give us something for the transition. Now that we've tasted M1 I don't think Apple needs that but I would rather be wrong here.
I really hope we get some nice surprises related to hardware. Anyway, 2 hours to go, lets see :)

I very much hope a >30" iMac is not announced this year. I've already gone well beyond my allowed budget for electronic wonderfulness. Apple .. Please don't announce the big iMac this year .. I wouldn't be able to resist and thus would justifiably fall into the category of stupid beyond belief.

big iMac is happening this year most likely. There is no reason not to. Apple is waiting either for M1X or M2 variants so unless chip shortage screws us this big brother is going to be out around fall most likely. So be ready :)

I still feel like the MBP's come first, and then a couple few months later, the big imacs.

I would think so too. It would make zero sense to do M1X in a month or two and then next month have M2 out.

So fall for M2 variant is probably very logical expectation.

Now there are more chances that the 30” will start with the "M2X" onboard

I wouldn't be that surprised if a 16" MBP comes out later this year and the new larger screen iMac doesn't come out till closer to mid next year. The 16" MBP is probably a higher priority to Apple than the larger screen iMac. Also with a high end desktop the performance expectations would be higher.

What's dying about your 2011 iMacs? I have four mid-2011 iMacs and all are still working fine. I recently started booting one of them off a TB3 NVMe drive (of course I needed a TB(1/2) cable, an Apple TB2 to TB3 adapter and a TB3 dock [to provide power to the drive] as well) and now it feels a lot faster. New hardware is nice, but there are ways to get the most out of old hardware without having to use a screwdriver to make the wait easier.

I really hope this comes out some time in the 3rd quarter. If not I will have to make a decision between the mini or the 24 inch iMac.

2010 iMac just keeps chugging along.

Talking with a friend a few days ago who is the one who actually got me interested in Mac about twenty years ago. His 2011 apparently died awhile ago and he’s been using a Mac Mini for a few years. He is now really excited for the new iMacs. Meanwhile my mid 2011 21.5 is still going strong such that I feel somewhat guilty in contemplating replacing it with a new 2021 iMac.

Amazon just dropped the i5/512GB iMac 5K to $1599 and $400 off is very tempting since my WFH status will likely become permanent and using an Intel iMac is easier than an Apple Silicon one. That being said, I can still wait because the two are a wash on single-core and multi-core is only about one-third better. If they ever offer that $300 discount on the i7, I'd jump on it.

On the plus side, the Intel iMac is now so inexpensive that if the ASi iMac (Pro) is super-amazing, as long as it's $2499 with 16GB of RAM and 512GB/1TB of SSD, I could swing it, as well. :D

I'm disappointed I won't be be able to run Monterey OS on my late 2014 iMac 27" Retina machine. I bought this when Apple just refreshed the line with the retina 5K display and the display looks great still. However, there are some irritating things about the machine's lack of ability (like the inability to use it as a second monitor to another machine) that make purchasing initial releases of computers always complicated.

I'm now considering options to purchase in the future to replace it with an apple desktop that will have greater use for me. But, one of the new 24" iMacs is just too small my use (I have a 34" Asus pro monitor next to it on my desk and the size difference would be jarring).

Perhaps a mini might be in my future? If ONLY there was a way to use my current iMac as a target display monitor!

Apple would have had at least one more Mac purchase out of me if that was the case, probably with another soon if the remaining Intel Mac Mini is replaced with a higher end Apple Silicon chip.

However, it will be interesting to see how much is possible with the functionality shown in the WWDC Keynote where the keyboard/mouse/trackpad of one Mac can control another.

Actually it's not dying and is still going strong. I use it for several hours everyday and even play Deus Ex HR on it, but after 10 years I'm afraid it will suddenly die on me one day soon. I want to replace it before it dies, not after. It will be much easier. I used to replace my Mac every 5 year but this one has kept going and been sufficient for my needs until now. :)
