I'll wait until we have....

- More Thunderbolt ports. All my external drives are TB3/4 or USB-C. Two doesn't cut it for me (even when using OWC Thunderbolt 4 hubs). I want a dual bus system and not a single bus for the TB ports.
- Native 10GBe. I currently have to use a TB to 10GBe adapter with my MBP. I want to remove the adapter and plug straight into my network.
- 32GB RAM option
- Larger screen. 32" would be lovely!

Currently have a MBP16, which never leaves my desk so I can easily replace with an iMac. Give me the above and I'll purchase!

So looks like the new SoC might indeed be the "M1X".

Some commenters are claiming it was put in purely for SEO reasons because "naturally people are going to search for 'M1X'" and others noted that iPad OS had a reference to an "A14X" and yet the iPad Pro launched with M1, so it may yet not come true, but personally I think it will be called M1X.

Macbook Pro's always seem to outpower the iMacs!
I would expect Apple to put the M1X in the iMAC lineup alongside the MacBooks, although doubt they will.......unless they reserve it for a 32" iMAC version instead?........

The expectation is the upcoming large-screen iMac will have the new 10CPU+16/32GPU core SoC going into the upcoming MacBook Pros.

with the latest twitter leaker rumor of the new MBP's delayed till November, I wouldn't be at all surprised to have to now wait till early '22 for the large imacs. It's going to be a while...

Yep that sounds about right. Even though the world is recovering from COVID logistics along with the chip shortage hasn't recovered. I ordered a cooking pot that is finally being delivered today from France after nearly 3 months from ordering.

Rumors / reports that the MBP would be delayed until 2022 started dropping last month and I believe they almost all focused on the 14" and 16" MiniLED displays being the cause (due to manufacturing delays).

So it is possible the iMac won't be affected, either because it will not have MiniLED or because MiniLED panels in the 30-32" size are more readily available.

Are we meant to get 30-32 miniLED? I love the tech on my iPad Pro. Was it rumoured for "iMac Pro" to come?

Yes and no.

Earliest mention was back in early 2020 when MCK said that Apple was developing a 27" MiniLED 5K panel he presumed would go into an updated Intel iMac Pro.

There have been plenty of rumors that Apple intends to replace LED with MiniLED across their entire product lineup (so those products on OLED will stay on OLED) and Apple themselves have indicated these rumors are not wrong. So it stands to reason that the iMac line will go to MiniLED and the larger model could be the first to do so, followed later by the 24" model as prices drop.

There are 32" MiniLED computer displays available now, though they are all 4K. So the production capability is there and I could see Apple moving the Pro Display XDR to MiniLED, as well, if it can provide the same performance as the current backlighting system.

Ok, cool. I wasn't sure.

Well, if there is 32" MiniLED already than thats great. Resolution doesn't matter as the MiniLED panel is separate (correct?) so that Apple could just put in the panel they want. Ideally XDR with reduced fluff to bring the price down. After all, the XDR will be "crap" lighting wise compared to the new (supposed) MiniLED lighting as XDR is not MiniLED.

I still think we will see new bigger iMac at a Fall event.

Yes I believe the MiniLED backlighting would be independent of the panel so it should not be an issue for Apple to add MiniLED to the LG 6K panel they are using for the Pro Display XDR (which is also the panel I presume Apple will use for this next iMac).

As to whether Apple will replace the 576-array backlight on the Pro Display XDR with a larger array of MiniLEDs, I do not know. I suppose if the MiniLED array can hit the same peak and sustained brightness of the current backlight, they will, especially if it needs less cooling than the current array.

(And yes, I know the iPad Pro 12.9's display matches the XDR in brightness, but that is ~13" versus 32" so that likely plays a role.)

I gave up waiting and plumped for a 16/512 M1 Mini, and a new LG 27” monitor. Glad I did - absolutely loving my new setup.

I just hope its not outrageously expensive.

I think that we will not see a new iMac this year. I am sure that new MacBook Pros will come, but something tells me that the big iMac will be called iMac Pro and come at WWDC 22.

With the flexibility we are hearing about CPU and GPU core counts (10/20/40C and 16/32/64/128G), I do not see why Apple can't effectively do both.

They can release the 32" iMac with 10C/16G in 2021 and then when the 20C/64G SoC arrives in 2022 with the new ASi Mac Pro, offer it as a BTO option for an "iMac Pro" without the name.

So now the pundits are saying the MacBook Pro will launch in late Q3, which effectively means September, and this means it could be a "One More Thing" at the iPhone Event. o_O

If the iPhone event is in early September and they do announce the MBP as part of it, then I would expect this means no new iMac model in 2021 as why announce the MBP and then 4-8 weeks later announce a new iMac model?

If they do not announce it at an early iPhone event, then that means a separate MacBook Pro event in late September could also include a new iMac model.

So at least I now have a general idea of when to pull the trigger (or not) on a 2020 Intel iMac 5K. By then, I will also know if my WFH is permanent (which would heavily influence me to stay with Intel for one more generation of iMac).

MBP will not be released with iPhone + AWatch event. We will get the usual iStuff and then the usual next month or so iMac,MBP and maybe new Mini.
When MBP is out there is no reason not to get bigger iMac too as those will most likely use the same chip.

Unless Apple is redoing the line and there will be no bigger iMac and the bigger screen will be new iMac Pro.

Also, digitimes is often wrong so I don't take them seriously. :)
