Will you leave the Apple ecosystem because of CSAM?

Unless Apple clearly broadcasts it on the Photos app, the average person won't even know what the hell that means.

No, but the new Nokia 3310 works. Saw them on the rack at Target a few months ago.
The last 3310 I remember seeing was 3G only, and exclusive to AT&T. That was the rebooted 3310, and if I'm not mistaken, isn't AT&T supposed to shutter 3G networks by 2022 or something or was that just another lie to push 5G?

I do find it ironic that my HTC Thunderbolt, my Galaxy S Relay 4G (T-Mobile), and my Galaxy S4 Mini (Verizon) still work despite getting emails from Straight Talk back in 2019 saying they would all cease to function after December 31, 2020 😆 I also stopped getting those emails, too. Still make/receive calls and get data just fine.

One reason I keep them is one (S4 Mini) is my home phone, another (S Relay 4G) is just too fun to text with, and is a backup should my main phone (S20 FE 5G) is either lost, stolen, dies, or the network goes down (it did a month ago for 7 hours), and my Thunderbolt is just a backup for either of them. They're also handy for privacy since they haven't supported Google services in a long time (you can add your account, but nothing syncs, Play Store is broken) and I keep them around also in case the rumors of the requirement of a vaccination status on your phone ever becomes mandatory--I'll just hand them my Thunderbolt and say 'I don't have any such app!' in case I'm stopped at the door to the grocery store.

Makes me wonder though why they wanted to kill all the 'unsupported' phones any way. Was it truly about VoLTE or 5G or just making sure everyone's phone can run the vaccination passport app? I hate to be the type to make conspiracy theories but still, it does time just right!

They are.

If they do, that'll leave an insane amount of cars and security/monitoring panels without connectivity.

I honestly didn't look close enough at the new 3310 to see which networks it ran.

IoT and cars, along with security systems were supposed to be exempted. Whether or not that allows some type of fringe service for whatever older phones remain on is another question. I do know around here, in rural areas, some industrial parks have small-range AMPS service active that never gets outside said industrial park, and there are exemptions for some Analog TV towers (shango066 on YouTube still picks up Guadalupe TV which is still analog in California)

Keep in mind that during the massive AMPS shutdown in 2009, it didn't stop just because a few OnStar subscribers lost connectivity, now, did it?

I am not sure if yet another 'new' 3310 has come out, I just know of the one a few years ago.

The 3310 released a few years ago is the one I reference with "new".

Makes me wonder how long my LG 440g will continue to function on T-Mobile 3g and whether it is worth changing phone numbers around.

Laugh all you want, but, since my Apple Watch has been sitting in a drawer, turned off, for the last <looks...> fifteen days or so (?), and my life apparently didn't come to an end (!), I'll soon be shopping for a more traditional watch. Three weeks ago I'd never imagined I'd ever wear a traditional wrist watch again. So it's not entirely outside the realm of possibility a newer version of something like that is in my future for a phone, as well.

I really relate to this.

I'm planning on buying a nice traditional watch too because I noticed how much more invasive notifications became in my life when they buzzed my wrist instead of my pocket. I find there's something grounding about having an analog clock dial because it graphically contextualizes the current time so much better than a simple digital readout. The dial displays not just the current time but also reminds you of the time you've already spent + the time you have left for a given day.

I'm thinking I might wear a mechanical watch on one wrist and a fitness tracker that doesn't do anything except track my fitness on the other (ideally no screen) as dumb as that might look. If that becomes too much of a nuisance I'll maybe wear the fitness tracker (or Apple Watch if I stick with it) only when exercising instead of all the time. The problem with many fitness trackers is that there's very few ways to guarantee they're not uploading all of your health data to their cloud.

At the moment a try to sell my watch, iPhone, iPad, and MacBook m1…

I start migrate all to Google, calendar, notes, contacts……. I cancel iCloud and backup my photos.

I start with google one, in google photos you can CHOOSE backup a photo or not to the cloud, icloud is or all or nothing…. And have many problems with sync, errors, limitations….

Thanks Apple, without iCloud and privacy apple lost his valour, I will samany money 👍🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

I say no TO SCAN my DEVICE. Vote with my money, and will recomend all my friends to not buy any apple product.

What country are you in and what is the market like for selling used Apple products?

When someone tells you it's "for the children," you know right off the bat you're about to get bent over.
If Apple made you realise this, than the whole exercise was worthwhile.
Don’t you feel the same when you hear “democracy”, “human rights”, “green economy”, “dictatorship”?

When there is a fight for power, all these manipulations are widely used by all players. The trick here is to know which side you are on and act accordingly.

It remains to be seen how this turns out. We don't even know wether Apple will stick to this?
Many people will switch only later on and Apple might lose the cool factor. In any case this is relevant for the brand.

And we are currently at 70% of users who are fine with said feature. How do you think this will translate into the real world, given that the people at Macrumours are already considered to be far more critical than the norm?

Average users won’t even know about it unless it’s broadcasted and correctly pre reasoned via celebrities/MSM/social media/friends and family.

It’s also true that average users probably don’t give a ***** about the ecosystem or processors so it would be far easier in that regard.

Yeah I get the exact same cringe feelz from all those bumper sticker phrases. And no, it's not a new insight.

Most people would think M1X is some new model of BMW convertible.

Well, I like Windows, but if you don't, I recommend KDE Plasma Linux. It is outstanding, stable, beautiful to look at, configurable, and paired with Ubuntu studio has all the applications in all major areas. This includes graphics, video, music, and productivity.
I never use Windows anymore, including for work, and haven't for a long time. Recently I cleaned up my Mom's computer for her, which runs Windows 10.... and goodness.f--ing.gracious.

The level of blatant intrusion and contempt for its users was amazing. It is not a product I could ever tolerate or recommend to any person who has the slightest value for control over their own purchases.

Even with this CSAM thing, hereafter referred to as C-scam, overall I would rate Microsoft worse when it comes to the level of rage-induction and open disrespect.

That doesn't absolve Apple of anything, and I do have viable alternatives. BSD and Linux even hold many other advantages over Apple. I'm a big fan of customization and while Apple never made that easy, they've made it increasingly unfeasible with each iteration.

Does anyone here think that Android, Google, Zuckerburg, etc. will be MORE protective of your privacy than Apple?

I’d describe my wife as “real world” and have had a few discussions about it. She’s of the opinion (and I suspect said real world as well) that it’s worth it if it achieves the desired result.

Perhaps yes, perhaps no. But they do not try to flog their products and services using "We are the best at protecting your privacy, a fundamental human right" marketing BS that Apple does.

And?
Zuck's famous quote from the early days about those who gave him personal info speaks volumes "Dumb F***s" Thats a direct quote.

Perhaps not, but unlike on an iPhone, I can decouple Google from Android, or my Fire tablet from Amazon, and not install Facebook or Messenger or Whatsapp. In fact, my S20 FE has all of that either turned off, uninstalled, or the internet connectivity disabled via VPN app (NetGuard) and not only has battery life become a lot better, the phone runs even faster than it was out the gate! You get at least control over Android, or Linux, or fire OS. Until we can sideload an alternative gallery app to replace Apple Photos or decouple iCloud from our Apple ID (which is required to even use the App Store) I'll stick to what I use now.

Functionally, my S20 FE is the same as my Thunderbolt in regards to Google/Knox/Facebook.
