Will you leave the Apple ecosystem because of CSAM?

I wonder if Apple's move is related to this:

Stunned. Not surprised because Aus are the leaders of propping up the police state amongst western “””democracies”””.

And we’ll get the usual suspects in this forum letting us know there’s nothing to be worried about because none of us are “criminals” and that daddy Apple will totally try to fight this bro.

This will arrive elsewhere soon despite people claiming it will never happen, just like they claimed on device content scanning would never happen. I genuinely feel sick reading that article.

I have never, nor do I intend in the future to store my photoslibrary on iCloud. I have plenty of storage for photo data on EHD if necessary. If you do not use the Photos app or iCloud Photos Library then the CSAM system of detection does not work. Further to that Apple has allowed an optional switch to "Disable iCloud Photos".

I am all in favour of what this is for, protecting children from sexual abuse, my only fear is that misinterpretation by whoever inspects this stuff may cause problems for innocent people who were simply taking a family snap of their grandchild or similar.

The other question is about privacy. It just sounds like another foot in the door of our privacy. First it was terrorism now sexual perverts, what's next, tax evaders? Unregulated monitoring by computer algorithms to prevent rally plans?

I wonder if Apple's move is related to this:

So warrants for data access and modification on national security grounds are approved by the same administrative tribunal that rules on tax affairs, child support payments and workers compensation (https://www.aat.gov.au/about-the-aat). Truly concerning and exactly why we need data privacy more than ever.

Australia and New Zealand are some of the most terrifying views of where US society is headed; and unless something changes, it's coming soon. In many ways it's already here.

It's the worst of all worlds, really. Because it's not presented as a scary Hollywood villain. It's always done because they just care so damned much about us.

One question for all the “It’s all good” or “Don’t care” folks out there.
If you take out the letters CSAM, take the ”porn” from Messages, and take out the emotion, would you be okay with the watching / checking / reporting systems that Apple is installing with version 15?
Take out the word Siri, are you okay with letting your phone listening and recording your conversations?
Take out the word Maps, are you okay with letting your phone track your every movement?

I get the point you're trying to make, but you don't scare me. I'm taking this at face value, not some conspiracy that they're just telling us it's CSAM today and tomorrow it will be vaccine misinformation and then it will be political crap. Get out of here with that nonsense. It's not gonna happen.

Every cloud service has been checking for CSAM for years except for Apple apparently. What's to stop Apple (or any other company) from checking for other stuff?

Also, iCloud has NEVER had a system where you can upload only certain photos. It's either all-in or all-out. There's no in between. So whether they check as the photo is uploaded or they check after the photo has been uploaded. The photo is being checked for who knows what regardless.

Wow. That's a new one. We haven't heard that argument before. It seems compelling. Yes, yes, it is compelling. Day-um. I would never believed all those security and privacy experts and advocates had something to hide. Dude! You have Shown Us The Light!
Yeah and Apple is dumb and didn't think at all about what they were doing or implementing. They didn't discuss it or anything! There are so many checks in place and it looks like they dotted all their i's and crossed their t's. This is not something that can just be done willy nilly. They have to be careful about how they approach it and I think they definitely were.

I trusted Apple with all the other technologies on my devices and I trust them with new ones. Get over it. Nothing's gonna change and the sky isn't falling.

The only people truly angry have something to hide. Who's not against child porn?
I have something to hide. Passwords, bank account codes, health records, embarrassing anecdotes, etc, etc. However, it is my call what I hide, not someone else’s. If I am suspected of a crime, the authorities can investigate me with the appropriate warrants, but it is not for Apple to scan my own data on my own device unilaterally and without due cause.

You hide all of that in photos? That's kinda weird man.

It will remain 100% private. Prove me wrong please.

If your happy to be guilty until Apple prove you innocent that's fine for you.

Im innocent and I don't need Apple invading my privacy to prove it.

Would you allow anyone into your home to search it without any reason?

Remember who said this........

C'mon. We ALL have something to hide from somebody. You seriously think I'd tell anyone here where I live or what my finances are?

I think it's safe to say that nearly if not all of us are against child porn.

Out of context of the conversation but I’ll answer you anyway.
Siri - I leave off unless I am testing it (beta)
Maps - Google maps is set to no tracking. I just recently discovered how much Apple Maps tracks you. Not cool. Looking how I can disable / delete (data) this.

I have disabled most of the tracking / data collecting features on my Android device and was very surprised how much Apple collects. Digging into how much Apple will allow me to stop and remove. Google actually collects less on me than Apple from what I can see.

On your CSAM comment, get real. Not all countries have CSAM listed as OMG type stuff. Take Saudi Arabia and other countries like that. They have very different definitions. Russia. China. Etc… This feature, what we know of it so far, is tailor made to allow scanning for items a Nation State finds as “top priority”. It will be done IF Apple really turns this on.

iC loud Photo - no kidding! That’s why we ask. Also the second biggest reason I don’t use it.

Not anymore, and that is the exact reason I left Google. Even with location and cellular data turned off, my phone still tracked everywhere I went and plotted it on Google Maps. 4 HomePods (2 big, 2 small) and an iPhone 12 mini for sale!

Open your eyes. Big Tech companies are already putting the screws to people for "vaccine misinformation" and political crap.
