Yes, but at the same performance?

I looked over this article and tried to pick the best processors and the latest Intel seems the closest and even then, the M1 in the multicore test is almost 2x faster

View attachment 1797192

Most of the other laptops that offer similar processing power fair a lot worse.
View attachment 1797208

What apple did with the M1 is provide the consumer with incredible battery life AND excellent processing power. I prefer PCs but I give credit where credit is due, and Apple has out engineered Intel, Dell, HP and others who have similar class processors and laptops.
Again. That's what was being discussed. Battery life. Not performance etc. Battery life. And the claim no computer has the battery life of the m1. That is false.

Very good performance. It's the third time my MacBook Air crashes today and restarts itself. Very good :) Yes, Apple has done amazing job. Very, very good performance.

To be fair, I don't remember the last time I got a blue screen of death on a PC. I'm seriously starting to wonder why I even purchased a Mac and why do I have such 'different' experiences to everyone else? Everybody's saying how Windows PCs crash all the time, but I haven't had a single crash on my Windows PC in years, MacBook Air M1 however…
I was in the middle of replying to you when my MacBook froze up and restarted itself. Is that a good performance laptop? Not for me.
So click on the report button and view the log. Then post a screenshot here so we can help you to solve the issue. This behavior is certainly not normal for macOS. I bet some Rosetta app is causing your problem. Have you tried deleting them as I told you?

But you have to put it in the context. By your logic some 11" 720p laptop with the same hardware would be even better than any of these laptops.

I suggest posting this in Apple Silicone forum and ask for help as to how to find what is causing the problem. Wouldn't that be more productive than using this to generate a Mac vs Windows argument?

Yes, but performance is a major metric, and the point is that apple provides a laptop that basically lets you have your cake and eat it too.

For non-M1 Macs, you will have to sacrifice battery life and that's something that runs against the grain for many people. Here's the issue as I see it, and just my personal opinion. Every review, every product (mac/pc/etc) release has highlighted performance, now that Apple has a superior product in that department you can't move the goalposts and say performance isn't really that important. It clearly is.

. Wouldn't that be more productive than using this to generate a Mac vs Windows argument?
But I think that's what the OP wanted. He doesn't seem interested in fixing his M1, which is clearly defective.

But I think that's what the OP wanted. He doesn't seem interested in fixing his M1, which is clearly defective.
No, that's not what I wanted. My point was to show that there's no need to bash Windows the way people here do. People always mock PCs for their blue screen and slowness etc, but I have no problems. Also, people still haven't responded to me: How can I enable ads on Windows 10? Everybody complains about ads on Windows 10, but yet I can't see any.

It's sad how people bash and belittle Windows and all PCs all the time and it's okay, but god forbid if you say anything about a Mac or bring out the issues then people laugh at you.

If the Mac keeps crashing for no reason get it fixed by Apple. I don't understand what this has to do with Windows machines 🤷‍♂️ Would you buy a Mac because your Windows laptop is defective?

I personally "bash" Windows because it's a mess of a system that has way too many problems with it's ui and usability. It has been stable though, I don't think I've seen a single BOD in the last years unless I messed with undervolting or stuff like that.

That's what a lot of people here and on reddit seem to do, yeah.

I responded to you twice with links that show you how to disable ads. If you really want to enable them then follow the steps in the links but enable rather than disable.

You sent me how to disable ads and the links were from 2016. I replied that Windows has changed A LOT since then and asked you how can I enable ads to which you did not reply.

lol....yes I did.

I have Windows 10, but I see no ads. How do I get the ads? You sent me such an old article. Windows has changed a lot.
If you wanted to pick on Windows and actually used it then you'd pick on the weather icon…

google is full of more recent articles such as….

You probably turned these ads off just like I have. That doesn’t mean Windows 10 cannot have them especially in PCs bought preconfigured at the factory.

Hey!
My problem is that I have M1 MacBook Air and everybody's always telling how perfect it is and how perfect Apple's ecosystem is and everything syncs seamlessly and Macs never crash.
I went to sleep last night and my computer did absolutely nothing and I woke up to this:
View attachment 1796750

What happened. I don't know. Also, my MSI laptop is faster and it can play games that my MacBook can't. My MSI boots up faster, Visual Studio opens faster, Chrome opens faster and in general it's faster and Unity exports games faster.

What really made me post now is that Photos don't work on Mac. It doesn't sync all of the photos from my iPhone. I've been waiting and Googling for hours and the Mac Photos simply doesn't sync. It says it's up to date. I can see photos on my iPhone and on my iCloud, but they dont appear on my Mac's Photos app. I think Google Photos isn't any worse than iCloud Photos. For real. Even though I'm happy with my iPhone I feel like I would've been happy with Android too as I've been before. I just don't see this "seamless" and trouble free life that everyone's talking about while bashing Windows PCs here.
An interesting discussion would be what software you may have installed that could be potentially creating issues. when many or most don't have issues and some do, then what is it about the some that are conflicting? That would be both interesting and beneficial. I know things like bluestacks install kernel extension, as a gamer, that might be something that you are doing. Are there processes running from games or whatnot that might be the trigger?

Seriously, no one has ever suggested that Apple is perfect and immune to hardware and software issues, but more important is troubleshooting the issue. Again, most people don't seem to have this issue, so hardware? other software? permissions not granted? Would love to know

Also, it should come as no surprise to anyone that there are faster computers than Apple's entry M1s. Of course there are. The M1s are amazingly fast in their price range, amazingly fast for what they replaced, and the first Apple silicon offerings.

Again. That's what was being discussed. Battery life. Not performance etc. Battery life. And the claim no computer has the battery life of the m1. That is false.
Put the M1 in the 16” MBP with its 99watt hour battery size and it will have the best battery life of any laptop. A lot of windows laptops that claim to have better battery life often have bigger batteries than the M1 13” MBP.

Currently the intel 16” uses a 99watt hour battery(the highest allowed in a laptop legally). If Apple keeps the same 99watt hour battery for the Apple Sillicon version it would last a long time for web browsing or video playback.

there is no efficient CPU than the M1 right now because of the 5nm node.

Oh, if people like Apple that is fine. The people spewing crap are the ones I laugh at. "the M1 has WAAAAAAYYYY better battery life than ANY windows based system". are the ones I love. NO, they don't. Then they post up things showing that there are plenty of windows based systems that get great battery life, even more than their wonderful Mjesus systems, then move the goal posts, well if they had this or that, they would not get such good results. Thats not what was being argued. The argument was battery life. Nothing was mentioned about screens, battery size blah blah blah.

Apple lovers, love to move goal posts. I guess it is just in their nature.
I do agree that there are extremists on both sides. Most people aren't going to really care or give a damn. I'd like to think extremists are few. But threads like this really seem to be attention getting attempts via unreasonable statements. Most reasonable people don't come to conclusions like this - or at least I'd like to think so.

that there's no need to bash Windows the way people here d
You're on a Mac site, so of course the majority of people are going to bash windows. That's ok.

I mean its like going to a ford enthusiast fan site and start complaining that people there are down on Chevys.

But what many of us see is someone complaining about how unstable their M1 and after being told that's not normal, seem resistant to deal with Apple and resolve the defective unit.

See? Crashed again. I can also say that BOD for Windows isn't normal, but people here would keep bashing windows and how terrible it is.
Personally I've never even restarted my work PC and it has never crashed on me.
Either the machine is defective or your unlucky. I only had my intel 16” MBP kernel panic once and that was due to a known bug in 10.15.4, which was fixed in the next update. Ever since then I never had a kernel panic on my 16”.

I had a lenovo laptop before I brought my 16” and that Lenovo had its fair share of problems with programs crashing, wifi card needing replacing and thermal problems. But my Lenovo laptop never got BSOD. My desktop PC though had it’s fair share of BSOD and it crashed a lot. It depends I guess on the software and hardware used on the computer.

macOS is not for everyone, it does things differently and is very different from windows. But to some that difference is what makes them like macOS.
Buy one thing is for sure though the M1 macOS used in the M1 macs is very new compared to the tested intel macOS.

For the longest time macs were boring because of intel cause what was point of a Mac other than macOS when the hardware was the same as PCs.
For me the future of the Mac is exciting because going forward macs will use custom hardware that no other computer will have. During the years 2016-2017 I thought the Mac is dead at Apple because of the horrible MacBooks that were on sale and the Mac was also being neglected.

Apple cares about the Mac again and they haven’t done so since the PowerBook era or early intel Mac era. I say this because custom sillicon will be made for the Mac and Apple invested billions for this transition.

But why people can't be more open minded and why do you think my unit is defective as in hardware wise? I'm backing up my files and reinstalling Big Sur and I hope it'll be alright, because if I contact Apple reseller then I think DHL will come pick it up and this has never been a pleasant experience. My point was to show that Macs aren't perfect either. Of course PCs aren't perfect either, but they are not as bad as some people claim.

Also, I've had problems with Macs before and the only reason I bought a new Mac was because I read how awesome new Macs are and how trouble free they are, but it's proving to be the opposite for me now.

For the VAST majority of people this is the case that Macs just work. Anyone with an inkling of IT support know this. That's why you're getting pushback on your attempt to prove something with your experience. The problem people are having is that you're taking your experience and generalizing it to everyone. We're going in circles now.

Like me buying a really popular device (BMW car for example) known for XYZ feature, and me finding a flaw with XYZ feature then preaching how that product is crap and not great while the vast majority of people will never experience that flaw. Come on...

But you are the guy who called someone else a liar for saying their Windows PC was crashing. Was that your example of being open minded?

BTW, were you able to turn on the ads in Windows with the instructions I sent you?

But that's what people do here. There are constantly people bashing Android and Windows and if you disagree you get laughing emoji reaction or if you even say: "I've never had any problems with Android / Windows" you get laughed at. Do you get my idea? Windows just works as well. Even Ubuntu works nowadays out of the box. Do you see my side as well?

I also agree that people are bashing Apple too much, for example on YouTube you read a lot of comments on how Apple slows down older iPhones (which isn't true if your battery was new) and every OS slows down. Even Macs slow down and I am sure in 8 years my MacBook Air M1 won't feel like "day one" as it does now (despite the kernel panics that I get)

That was wrong of me and I apologise even though he won't read my apology.
Nope. Not yet. I'll try later on Home, since my work uses Enterprise and it's different than Home. I'll try soon.
